Unfortunately I think that's going to be the prevailing attitude in the Pines this summer. Which is a shame considering this:

I guess I've always thought that if a boycott isn't some kind of sacrifice for you, it's not really a boycott? Having convictions is hard, y'all!

this is hardly a shocker, just another reveal of Ian and Mati's lies, but it was a fundraiser and Ian cut a check to Cruz, later cancelling it when he.... er, realized how homophobic Cruz was (read: when he realized the backlash from his idiocy).

I shall be in a caftan with the other lesbians in the Grove this weekend. I was thinking of getting stoned and going to that showtune Sunday thing and not spending a dime. But even that makes me feel queasy.

Wait...isn't next weekend Bear Weekend? Are you really going to be there this weekend, cause I'd love to get a drink while wearing caftans! It's my last weekend as a 40-year-old!

Next weekend is indeed Bear Weekend in the Grove (the official one). And btw I'm not out on the island this weekend. Otherwise I'd love to meet up with you in caftans while clinging to your 30s.

And the day won't be boring...but the year is just 'eh.' Turning 40 was actually fun. Did I just type that?

And better and better and.... what was I saying?

Horsetears, believe me the Out and especially The Botel are not anything one would call "luxury boutique hotels."

But, as to the main point, yes, it isn't a whole lot to boycott, it's so little to ask, there's not much sacrifice.

But that's kind of - or rather, a big part of - the point.

If we can't at least give up going to low tea at the Whale, or a night out at the Pavilion, to show we don't want our money being passed on to politicians who don't support our full citizenship and equal rights (not just in marriage, but also in housing, employment, and benefits), and who are against our rights receiving civil protections.... and that we don't appreciate being insulted, called cheap, entitled, extremists for feeling this way?

Then what does that say about us?

And, as a Pines resident and active boycott supporter, I'll add, what does it say to the world about the Pines as a community?

Ultimately, it's an individual choice whether one wants to patronize their businesses.

But count me out.

Personally, my feeling is that if they would just start really telling the truth, not insult the community, and apologize for that, and for their fundraising for Ron Johnson, and simply pledge to not support politicians who stand agaisnt LGBTQI civil rights in the future, then maybe we could put this whole, sad chapter to bed and get on with it.

Of courese, ideally, I'd love it if they just got out of Dodge. But, since that may well not happen (though this week even Andrew Tobias, who was up until then remaining silent said they have to go!) this isn't about vindictiveness.

It's about respect.
