People could visit Provincetown MA this summer as a bohemian alternative. The entertainment this year is divoon.

Fire Island's gay community is actually divided into two separate, but neighboring, beaches: the Pines and Cherry Grove. Much of the summer involves going in-between both communities. The Pines has historically been the place for the more moneyed gay set, with large houses set far back from roads. Cherry Grove attracts a far more diverse group- older, more middle-class, lesbians, etc.- and it feels more of a coherent community. Houses are closer together and generally smaller, and the downtown/boardwalk area is actually more exciting than the Pines.
tl;dr: the Pines has a gym, Cherry Grove has a place that makes bacon cheeseburger pizza.
This whole fiasco only really affects the Pines.

I was told the ice cream parlor is up and running again after the fire. I still have two jewels from last summer to trade in for a free scoop!
I was with a friend who's a Pines guy last night, talking about the whole boycott. There's discussion amongst his house about how to be socially responsible and alcoholic at the same time. There's talk of wearing HILLARY shirts and/or trying to use tea to raise money for her.
Me? Imma be naked on the beach with my voddy lemonades!

If you avail yourself of Tuesday Pasta Night at the pizza parlor, you are given a little plastic jewel to take to the ice cream parlor for a scoop of ice cream for dessert. AND...you do not have to use them right away. They were sure to tell us that we can save them and use them next summer. They're on my dresser, looking up at me like two magical eyes saying, 'Cookie dough. Coooooookie dough.'

I assume availing oneself of Tuesday Pasta Night means not ordering pizza? I'm not much for ice cream, but I think everyone else is, and if I get them free ice cream by eating at the pizza place, well, that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

I believe Tuesday Pasta night involves a salad, glass of wine, pasta entree and then the special little jewel to get your frozen treat. My advice? The less complicated pasta dish you order, the better off you are. Though the stuffed shells were pretty good.

What happened to make it awful? I was lucky to have been there during its peak back in the 70's and 80's.

I can't speculate on what happened to make it awful since the '80s, but I find the Pines vibe to be consistently unfriendly, closed-up, and snobby, and all public social times, like tea, are of the S&P, "Look, I'm beautiful; are you?" variety. There's a huge stick up the ass of that whole side of the island. And I find Cherry Grove to be the opposite of all of those things. It's friendly and laid-back. You can actually see and hear people (enjoyably) using the outdoors spaces of the homes, and most everyone you pass says hi.
