People don't know he's Welsh because Christian Bale chooses to do American press rounds in his American accent for some odd reason, haha.

Bale is very "method". His reasoning was that he didn't want audiences to get confused.

He may be from Krypton, but he does represent truth, justice, and the American way. Plus he grew up in Kansas. That being said, I have no problem with someone from a different country getting the part. I think the argument is a bit ridiculous. Shouldn't every role go to whoever is best for it, regardless of nationality? Also, people seem to pick and choose their complaints. Wolverine is supposed to be Canadian, but was played by a (yummy) Australian. In the same film series, Rogue is supposed to be American and was played by a Canadian. Where are those complaints?

I think the complaints are mostly for the superheroes who are felt to be in some way SUPER American. Superman is from Krypton, yes, but he is as American a superhero as you can get. Truth, justice, and the American way. You don't get a what-if miniseries about landing in an opposing country (Russia, in the case of Superman) unless the character's position as American is integral to the character.

Spider-Man is not quite as SUPER DUPER AMERICAN HERO as Superman is (I mean, who is except Captain America?), but he is very NEW YORKER.

No one really cares about Wolverine and Rogue's nationalities. Also, what average American can tell the difference between an American and a Canadian without being told? :P

It's not that I agree with all the NOOOO HE SHOULD BE PLAYED BY AN AMERICAAAAN arguments, but I kind of get them. Superman is an AMERICAN ICON, and arguing that he's not because he's an alien probably means you're not overly familiar with the character.

Just wanna point out, Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman may be played by Brits, but the characters themselves are still American. So it's not like they've changed their backstory and will be speaking in a British accent.

I am not even sure what Jor-El is supposed to definitively look like. And no, it was never been Marlon Brando in that white wig for me. So I guess pick a good actor for it. I am just hoping Zack Snyder does not make his cast look ridiculous.

Why won't Russell Crowe just go the F*CK away, really the man has no talent. Well apart from thinking the world revolves around him self.

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

Well, I most likely will not be seeing this movie. At least not in a theater. Not a Crowe fan.

I sure hope it's an origin story because if there's one story that can't be retold too many times, it's the origin of Superman.

But there are maybe 7 people who don't know how he came to be Superman, so 45 minutes minimum need to be spent on that in every film.

That's not the point! This time it's going to be edgier. I sure hope they reboot Batman soon. It's already so stale and outdated. Something darker with more explosions and larger vehicles, please.

What a dreadful picture. Is Snyder going to get all ChristopherNolan on Superman's ass, bringing out the "dark side" of the guy from Krypton? With plenty of explosions and weedwhacker editing, no doubt.

Even more money I'll be saving when this horror comes out.

I can't seem to wrap my head around the Laurence Fishburne casting? He's a great actor and all but as Perry White? Can you hear him saying "Greast Caeser's Ghost!"?

surely you know this is why they brought synder on board. so that they can shoot all the origin scenes extra-stylized, in extra slow motion, so that people who didn't get it before will get it now.

Already in WB's plans actually. Even as a fan of the movies I would like to have a Batman series that used more of the female characters and less non-registering 'original' characters that Nolan uses far too much to little effect in his movies. To go OT: I would watch the hell outta a TV series based on the Gotham Central comics.

Warner Bros. will probably be doing this in 25-30 year cycles if they cannot find some other DC comic character to cross over into the same fray as Batman and Superman (I would say Wonder Woman but DC and WB in general have really disrespected the character on a multitude of levels) the same way Marvel was even able to get to this point with The Avengers. Green Lantern flopped, but probably benefited in long run with the sales of the comics, graphic novels, and the new animated show that piggy backed off of the film's exposure. I think DC/WB is too afraid of the financial risk to put a big budget behind secondary superheroes after what happened to GL. Not to mention with Harry Potter series done with Warner Bros. needs another cash cow. A lot of people did not like the Superman Returns, and it could easily be spun as a failed continuation of the Donner-era of Superman, so there is a built-in excuse for this movie.

Roscoe, and I know hearing this will further your disinterest, Nolan is producing the film (along with getting some of the writing credit) with David Goyer (who co-wrote the Batman movie's with Nolan's brother) penning the script.

Initially it looked like there was a push for Jonah Nolan or David Goyer to direct but Jonah's inexperience as a director and David Goyer's less than stellar directorial filmography pushed both out of the running. I forget who else was in it but they gave it to Snyder.

I have already said in the thread that I have liked the casting (and yeah, I even like Laurence Fishburne as Perry White color-blind casting) but I am really taking a distance from a movie directed by Zack Snyder.

I thought at first he was a guy who tried really hard to stick to source material of his adaptations to a fault but then came his 'original' Suckerpunch. He is going to have to go on a roll starting with this movie to believe in his again. Nolan's finger prints could be all over this film but the slo-mo action sequences and gross sepia colors (which looked terrible in Superman Returns) are enough of turn off.

To quote a friend, it makes perfect sense that Tarsem Singh (though I actually do like him), Michael Bay, and Zack Snyder all went to the same film school. The resemblance in some of their works, especially Singh's latest Immortals to 300, is uncanny.

But leave it to Warner Bros. to make Snyder the man in charge of Superman. The same studio who took away the creative independence from Martin Campbell, one of the best action movie directors going, and ruined the Green Lantern themselves by forcing the film to be cut down to under 2 hrs in order to increase box office dollars and leaving any structured plot behind. It was too late for them to back away after the Suckerpunch debacle but I would love to look into who else were on the short list for this film.

Strummergirl, it makes perfect sense that Nolan would get Snyder to do to Superman what he has done to Batman -- turn it into joyless violent garbage. I'm sure I'll be rooting for General Zod the way I was rooting for the Joker.

Snyder's shtick has definitely passed it's sell by date. The slo-mo fights! The fetishized costumes! The saturated color pallette!
They're all the same now.

But I can't dismiss him out of hand. I thought his Dawn Of The Dead was terrific and was equally impressed with Watchmen.

Dismiss him, taz. Watch 300 again, and remember that he cast that narcoleptic boob Matthew Goode as Ozymandias in WATCHMEN and allowed him to speak like Elmer Fudd.

Dismiss Zack Snyder, taz. It is the only way.

I always forget that Zack Snyder directed Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole... that movie looked terrible but then I decided to give it a rent at the local redbox and I absolutely loved it!! I know it's only an animated feature but whatever... I've honestly enjoyed all of his movies (except for Watchmen) so I'm hoping he does a good job with Superman
