I thought his DAWN OF THE DEAD was horrendous. After a really great opening scene, that is.
I felt like I was not the demo for Legend of the Guardians when I saw the previews. Plus 30 Rock's whole tie-in of watching that movie on an airplane that was not in flight was pure torture made me sense that I was right to skip it.
I did like Dawn of the Dead for what it was and it was not the Romero film for sure, but it had its moments.
Snyder actually has had great moments in snippets, especially in opening scenes. But he comes off very 'music video director' in the worst sense (because you know, David Fincher's career got started in the age of MTV) a lot of the time.
I love and hate his Watchmen (btw, Alan Moore's stories on Superman are far from boring). There were great casting choices like Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Jackie Earle Haley and really bad ones, already said, Matthew Goode, Patrick Wilson, and Malin Ackerman. The movie just had no soul to it despite transposing so much of the images. Basically, all Dave Gibbons (it should be noted Gibbons heavily consulted the adaptation) and zilch Alan Moore. Snyder fell into his own excess and trappings one too many times in the film eg the music set to scenes and the slo-mo. You knew what Snyder liked about Watchmen when that happened and it was not really the reasons I and many others liked Watchmen.
WATCHMEN was, in certain spots, so slow as to be almost unwatchable... which is somewhat ironic given the running theme line "Who watches the Watchmen". I realize he probably felt it was wise to be cautious, given the rabid fan base, but he managed to make a great comic novel boring. How unforgivable is that?
SUPERMAN’S NEW GET-UP IS NO HOBO SUIT
HATE the new costume! What was wrong with Brandon Routh's Superman costume?
Eh, Routh's costume was too sepia in the coloring (especially when the film was a half-assed continuation of the Donner-Lester movies but looked nothing like Reeve's costume). I am surprised Snyder's movie color palate did not push him to keeping the costume as it fits so well with his other movies.
The sides to this suit are too.... Planet Krypton.
What is with these superhero costumes looking like material made for basketballs? First the Spiderman costume (which I always thought was made by Peter Parker himself) and now this. Captain America and in the Nolan Batman movies at least made their choices of materials seem practical.
Oh boy, is the cape going to be in CGI? Supes without a cape looks wrong.
If you scroll down there's a shot of him in the cape. There's a note that the capeless pictures may have been taken during a rehearsal. Also, something may have happened to the cape. In Superman lore his body gives off a bit of an "aura" that only projects about a half an inch or so off his skin. Thus making his suit invulnerable. But, it doesn't protect his cape.
I think Henry looks great in the new suit. I'm glad they did away with the red briefs. I'm sure his abs are exaggerated, but they're certainly eye catching.

Gotta agree with you about Snyder. I rather liked the DAWN OF THE DEAD remake but oh that 300! I also made the mistake of renting SUCKER PUNCH which was like a movie made from a video game that you would never want to play. Fiasco.
