This is the most problematic of the casting (though it is hard to imagine a worst casting than Kate Bosworth) and I am pleasantly surprised. I was a Lizzy Caplan shipper for the part but after seeing Amy Adams in The Fighter, I think she can definitely bring the qualities I like about Lois Lane to the big screen. Olivia Wilde would have just made me think it would be no different than Malin Akerman as Silk Spectre II in Watchmen. Pretty face, acting eh.

Amy is a terrific choice. I'm glad that she continues to have success. I can't wait to see her in this role.

I still would have liked to see Rachel McAdams as Lois Lane but I really like Amy Adams so I'm pretty excited for this
Amy Adams always comes across as petulant and off-putting in these spunky-cute roles that are better suited for other actresses. She's a character actress and a damn good one. Hollywood needs to stop trying to turn her into Meg Ryan 2.0.
For awhile they were kicking around a Janis Joplin biopic with Adams starring. It's preposterous, but I actually think she could do it.
By the way, is another Superman movie really necessary? Didn't the last one bomb?

^ It had a decent worldwide total of $391 million. However, people criticized the plot and acting. It was considered a forgetable film.

I'm pretty sure she's making the Janis Joplin movie, preposterous or not.
Yeah, she's still attached to the Janis Joplin movie with Fernando Marielles directing. She surprised me in THE FIGHTER (I'd have given her the Oscar over Leo's uber-hammy performance) and in DOUBT, where I thought she'd be predictable and she was fragile but still surprising. It's great to see her get work non-stop, she's a fantastic actress.

Directed by Zack Snyder, the casting is irrelevant. The film will be an abortion, an atrocity, an insult to the intelligence of even the dimmest American movie-goer. Only Rob Marshall plumbs similar depths of horrific awfulness, and Marshall's busy defiling Johnny Depp's career.
Of the four cast members announced so far (Lane, Costner, Adams, Cavill) I don't have problems with any of them. I was against the Bosworth casting in the previous film and she proved me right. Adams as Lane could work though.
I really like Amy Admas. A lot. The only film I didn't like her in was Julie & Julia -- I couldn't wait for Meryl Streep's scenes to be on the screen! I wouldn't have minded an Oscar win for her either...although I thought Melissa Leo was terrific too.
But, I am also getting weary of her seeing her in every movie --it's like she's the only actress available in Hollywood.
Michael Shannon as Zod. Only one other person I think would have been better(Jude Law but that's because I think he resembles Terrence Stamp) but I still like this casting!

I think Amy Adams is a great choice - remember her as the large girl in Smallville? And I'm glad Kevin Spacey isn't involved with this one!
Casting wise this moving is shaping up quite well. There hasn't been an announcement that I have balked at yet.
Kevin Spacey and Parker Posey were the only good parts of the utterly ridiculous Superman Returns.
Movie studios need to stop reviving these film franchises. And Zack Snyder needs to go back to whatever hole he came from.
Kevin Spacey is an actor I can't be objective about, but I agree Parker Posey was a highlight of the last film. I liked Brandon Routh too. Dunno about the new guy...why do Superman, Batman and Spiderman all have to be British?
Michael Shannon is inspired casting as Zod.
Yet Zod is an uninspired choice as a villain.
I mean, really? 6 movies and we've only seen 2 villains? Superman has on of the greatest comic book rogues galleries, and we haven't seen ANY of them on film yet. It's just ridiculous.
Routh was fine as Superman. The thing is, in my opinion, Superman is one of the least interesting superheroes around.
"Kevin Spacey is an actor I can't be objective about, but I agree Parker Posey was a highlight of the last film. I liked Brandon Routh too. Dunno about the new guy...why do Superman, Batman and Spiderman all have to be British?"
And why did Professor Xavier and Magneto have to be British? Why were the Joker and Wolverine Australian?
Wasn't really a serious point, nothing against the Brits (much)...just funny how these All-American heros are all played by them. 'Spose that's what acting is, though.
Yours may not be a serious post, but people indeed have been taking issue with all of these heroes being cast with non-American actors lately.
Yeah, I've been seeing a LOT of hate towards it. I knew you were only kidding around, though, Jay Lerner-Z.
:)
I'm not really too upset about that, but I do take (slight)issue with people holding all British actors in reverence, and thinking they are superior to Americans, especially if they're a "sir" or "Dame". That's the attitude that brought Kevin Spacey to the Old Vic, I like to imagine.
Superman is from Krypton but people love to mistake him with Captain America (which I am looking forward to seeing). I have actually gotten into a lot of fanboy arguments over this notion that he should be played by an American.
Also Christian Bale is Welsh but has pretty kept that pretty well hidden in the mainstream. I knew a lot of people shocked he was not American when they saw him accepting of the awards last Oscar season. If Cavill can pull it off that well, I will be happy.
I also heard people chirp about Amy Adams as too old for Lois Lane. I didn't even know her age and that she was **gasp** over 30. If anything she is more age appropriate as Pulitzer prize winning journalist at a high-profile newspaper.
I loved when Michael Shannon was rumored but agree with JP2 on Zod. I hate recycling the same villains (and I was just glad that Luthor would at best be in the backdrop). I sorta wanted Shannon for Bizarro but I am sure he can make the villain interesting and different from Terrence Stamp's Zod.
People don't know he's Welsh because Christian Bale chooses to do American press rounds in his American accent for some odd reason, haha.
