Yeah it seemed a bit obvious that they showed the kiss scene clip and cut IGHT before...

Eh, I grew up on country music and this will NEVER get mainstream country radio airplay. I wasn't that impressed. The song isn't very good. If you replaced "boy" with "girl", I can't imagine it being a hit. I need someone who is really good to establish himself or herself as an artist and THEN come out. That's the only way there will be a popular openly gay person playing on mainstream Nashville radio. There has also been another guy around for years trying to make it as the "first" openly gay country artist. He's awful.

Chely Wright came out LONG after her career was over. If you read her biography, she writes as if she's the sweetheart of country and it was a big gamble to come out. She was basically a one and a half hit wonder. She's still not playing on mainstream radio after coming out.

I have to say the thread title is wrong as well. There are plenty of country artists who are out and proud. They may not be very successful, but they are out there and have been for decades. Doug Stevens and The Outband are just one example, and were out there in the early 90s.

I remember a website, years ago, that catered to gay and lesbian country artists, but can't find it now.

Ugh, the idea that this is an 'artistic endeavor' just sickens me. He paid for the video himself. It's no different than the 'Friday' video. Being gay, the most aggravating thing to me is exactly what previous posters have said, why does he have to have his shirt off for 50% of the video? If it was a great song, I doubt the 'softcore-porn aspect' would be necessary.

I'll take Rufus Wainwright's Poses Album over any dreck this schlub puts out.

I think I know where folks may have gotten the impression that bears like country.

The song without the video isn't all that interesting. The video tells the story, not the music and lyrics. And the visual isn't the subtext so much as the text.

The song is derivative of a million other songs. His voice is too mannered for me. Too many faux-raspy starts to phrases. He's definitely got talent though. He sounds more like a Rob Thomas wannabe than a country singer.

With his looks and his vocal chops, he could do a lot of things.

I wish him luck.

I didn't hate the song or the video. It just isn't as memorable as I'd hoped it would be. The "specialness" lies in the subject matter and the video's story, not the song itself.
