Theatre fan, that is my all time favorite food! I had some today instead of birthday cake (which I had yesterday, lol)
Also-if you have to take supplements to replace what you're not getting in your diet, then you are not eating a healthy diet. Ideally, we're to get everything we need from the food we eat.

Yes, the world is JUST as much our personal grocery store as any animal's. That's why we know how to hunt. And we evolved as the dominant species.
NOTE: I did say we need to be more mindful of our use. But I will never feel "wrong" about my natural and healthy eating choices. Nor would I ever try to make you believe your choices are wrong.

I personally don't think everyone should stop eating meat. What I would like is for all meat to be produced in free-range, hormone-free environments. You know, the way domesticated animals were raised for food from about 8000 BC until 1950.
I don't believe there's anything wrong others choosing to eat animal products, but there is something wrong with the way animals are being raised for meat. I've met hunters who agree with that. The way the meat industry has devolved into factory farms is disgusting and completely unnecessary. If some people have no problem eating meat made with growth hormones, fine, but that shouldn't have become the overwhelming majority of the market. That's what bothers me more than anything. Had places like Whole Foods with organic, free-range meat been around when I was in middle school, maybe I wouldn't have given up meat entirely, but the mainstream resurgence of those products is very, very recent.

Thanks for your reply, orangeskittles.
I'm not as up to date as I should be regarding the raising and slaughtering of animals. I did however, see a video years ago about the way KFC killed their chickens and it made me sick. I don't eat KFC, but if I ever did, I would have switched brands.

Posted: 9/17/09 at 9:43amI am in the to each his own category, too. I don't eat meat because of the industry. My girlfriend and I read Skinny Bitch together. She got to the You Are What You Eat chapter before I did and told me she was thinking of going veg. I said she was crazy. Then I read the chapter. I've had meat 4 times since then. Ugh.

i keep going vegetarian on-and-off since i was in middle school. i honestly do feel guilty about eating meat. it's hard for me, because i'm allergic to soy, so i can't have most of the meat substitutes on the market... and the soy free ones taste like crap. (sunflower seed burgers, anyone?)
i'm also allergic to milk and eggs, but even when i'm not eating meat i dont consitter myself a vegan because i still eat honey.
there's a company called "so delicious" that makes amazing ice cream without using dairy or soy... it's all coconut based. they also make yogurt and milk... i'm just waiting for them to make cheese.
the only meat i have every so often is turkey. and yes, i still feel guilty about it even when i choose to eat it. i go through spurts of not feeling well unless i have a small ammount of meat in my diet.

I love the So Delicious ice cream. Give me coconut anything and I am there.
Paxton, have you tried the Quorn products? I think they are all soy free, though none of them may be dairy free. Can you eat goat cheese? The Quorn chicken breasts with goat cheese and cranberries are really good, though I love the ones with gruyere even more.
I am also worried about all the antibiotics and hormones given to these animals. There's a reason the average women's shoe size went from a size 5 to a size 8 in about 25 years. I try to eat organic when I can, but the prices are just silly. Shoprite wanted $3 for an organic tomato yesterday. Sigh.

You completely missed my point, didn't address it, and focussed instead on my pointing out your language didn't make any sense. You said if it were not for meat eaters the world would be "overstocked" with pigs and cows "running rampant." That is ridiculous. That is my point.
There are all sorts of things "we know how to" do. But because we know how, ought we? We know how to blow up atomic bombs. Ought we?

i've actually never heard of that brand... i'll have to look them up... and i don't know if i can have goat cheese. i've never been tested for it when i have allergy tests. i'll ask about it next time i go to the allergist.
it sucks that the healthy food is so expensive. where i live, obesity is a huge problem because so many people in my neighborhood dont have alot of money, and while there's 2 whole food stores and a trader joe's in my town, there's also an entire plaza filled with fast food... and it's alot cheeper than whole foods.
although i am glad to see that most walmarts have taken out that old food place and replaced it with a subway resturaunt.

Posted: 9/17/09 at 12:44pmI used to avoid Whole Foods because of the prices, but they are one of the few companies nation wide that provides same sex partner insurance and other great benefits. I really only buy things there that you can't get elsewhere, but now I am happy to do it.

Posted: 9/17/09 at 12:54pmi've becomes pretty good at picking out deals at whole foods. the cereal that i buy is actually cheaper at whole foods than it is at stop&shop. but some of their prices are just unreasonable.

The price for these little packets of almond butter I like are $10 for a 6 pack, I think. Ridiculous. I just buy almonds at Trader Joes and make my own. Much better.
I do need to own the "Give Peas a Chance," romper before I leave the states. I can't have children if I don't own that damn $32 romper!

For me, it's just that one outfit. I think my better half also wanted the carrot outfit, but I haven't seen it there in a while.

I'll try this again-
tonight I first realized that chicken and meat are starting to make me sick and not just from eating them - just from looking at them also.
Rosh Hashanah did it.

Paxton: don't eat Quorn. You're allergic to eggs, and Quorn uses egg-white for binding purposes.

Jerseygirl, you could probably zazzle that. Not sure if it'd be cheaper, tho, but just saying.

Posted: 9/20/09 at 11:23amTurtle Mountain, the company that makes So Delicious (which is amazing, yum), has become a godsend for people with allergies. They have a number of different lines (some do use soy), and their website has a chart that tells you which of their products you can and can't eat based on what you're allergic to. Their cleaning and testing procedures are probably the best around; they're extremely meticulous about eliminating chances for cross-contamination, and make for some of the safest products on the market for people with food allergies. I've tried a lot of different kinds of dairy-free ice cream and theirs is probably the best I've had.

Good stuff. NOTHING tastes exactly like cheese, but I love the slices. And they've really improved the melting quality.
I didn't realize that picture would show up this big, but I'm too lazy to edit in photobucket..
"Would you like to see all those industries go out of business? I'm not being sarcastic, I'd like to know if that's what your wish is, so I hope someone answers.
What should I eat, then? I'm allergic to most raw fruits and vegetables. Certain seeds can kill me. I guess beans would be my entire diet, no? "
I'd love to see all industries that practice atrocious slaughtering go out of business; or at least reform their method. And my personal philosophy has always been that I eat whatever I feel comfortable killing myself. Now if I lived like people did 100 years ago, when meat substitutions were not available and you had to eat to live - then I would eat meat. But I refuse to take part in the monstrosities taking place at these meat farms.
