i've always loved this photo of KATE ...

I thought long and hard about this one.
She couldn't act for beans. She couldn't dance or sing. And made many more godawful cheeseball bad movies than great ones. But every time you saw Lana Turner on screen, you could not look at ANYBODY else. She's the epitome of a STAR. Ans she was HOT in a way no other classic female star of the time was. Esther Williams claims that "Lanas' dressing room was dominated by a giant...BED." She had a sordid and facinating off-screen life filled with fabulous clothes, playboys, studs and sleazeballs. Her lesbian teen daughter murdered one of them (or took the rap for Mom).
And she PERSONALLY REQUESTED the twenty-something-year old slab of Scots beef Sean Connery be her co-star in ANOTHER TIME, ANOTHER PLACE (195

I love Kate Winslet these days. She can seriously act.
As for the golden age, I'm partial to Bette(I think if you look up diva in the dictionary you'll find her picture) and Kate (beautiful and probably the most talented of the time).
