Greg Jbara Love Thread Part 5: Keeping the love for our true prance alive!

Amanda, awesome. enjoy.

annie, there are talks that it is coming to London (maybe with Jonathan Pryce, who knows)

I have decided, even if I could make it, I'm not going to. I want to remember DRS the way it once was. Not how it is now. If I see it before I leave for college, I'll just complain the whole way back about how it wasn't the same.

but I would like to see speeches if I can, since I'm the speech woman and won't be there to record them.

also, changed my avatar to hopeful encourage more people to see it before it closes.

Edit: and I changed my sig.

edit again: Just figured out that "666" is the sign of the Devil. A Dirty Rotten Guy?

It pretty much just hit me. The show is closing, and I can't see it again. I'm basically devestated because I can't go to the last show and won't see it again (until the tour on June 6, 2007)

*cries insanley* (sp on the word is probably wrong, lol)

I start my first day of work today...and let me just say the uniform is just hot stuff...erm...*dies*

Go see Little Miss Sunshine, it's brilliance...
So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life.~Office Space

Sorry, I'll be wearing my DRS bright yellow opening night sweatshirt that I got as a gift recently. Well, unless it's really really hot. Then I'll just hug it.

So guys, wear all black on September 3.
We must be in mourning.

oh boy. I can't be in mourning during Labor Day Weekend and
two days before my birthday unless someone I know has actually died. Not to dismiss anybody's feelings, but I don't think this is worth wasting a holiday weekend moping over. I mean I'm sorry the show's closing on B'way sooner than some may have expected or wished, but it's just a show. Another show might move in to the venue that you'll all be just as crazy about. Everyone (cast, crew, and fans) will move on to other things.

Nothing wrong with being disappointed and even sad; I'm just suggesting ... keep things in perspective. And have a FUN Labor Day weekend in spite of DRS closing! Life's too short, people. Really.

Mom has spoken. lol

Okay. We'll start with some negatives.

Mr. Kind.

He's been in it the shortest, so I don't know if he might improve with more time, but my qualms were more with...just him himself, not how good a job he was doing.

But there were quite a few positives about him.

At the end of Chimp in a Suit, his final pose after "cheap little hat" was he looked into Brian's eyes and made himself look like a chimp. I will say that it was one thing he has over Greg--definitely looks more like a chimp. It was funny.

He made a very nice motion when he delivered the pencil joke, but his accent went a bit. I guess this is something he might improve in. His accent was fine except for it disappearing occassionally. Some words were exaggerated. It is pretty difficult to keep an accept up the whole show though; something I never gave Greg enough credit for.

Well, that's what stuck out, but I mean he was fine throughout act 1.

Until...act 2.

Brian was wheeled in before Chuck carried him off. No one to hold him the whole time anymore.

Like Zis Like Zat...I mean it started okay, but...I really wanted it to be good, but...he just didn't quite have Greg's heart, and certainly not his dancing skills. I mean also him being with Rachel, who is just adorable, probably doesn't help. When she said Mercy, he said no, thank you...which got a laugh and is creative, but...it's supposed to be a sweet moment, you know? Dancing was left to be desired in The More We Dance as well.

The balcony scene was fine. I actually really liked his delivery of his big speech, he kind of squeeze it...til the wine of your lust...but it didn't get as much laughs as usual, which was odd.

Ohh, and he didn't run during "consider it done." Bothersome.

ETA: his response to my complaint about DRS closing while Mamma Mia keeps flowing along. Greg Jbara Love Thread Part 5: Keeping the love for our true prance alive!

As for Keith and Brian...much much improved. Pretty much equally improved...Brian's still the better of the 2. He's great. Totally made Freddy his own, didn't try to be like Norbert, and he was great. Umm...lemme think, some examples...new moves during GBS. Waving his arms in the beginning, did something really funny when following Tom...shoot, I can't remember, but I remember thinking I like it even better than Norbert's imitation. But yeah a lot of his own moves and spin. His own Ruprecht voice, and though the moves were the same, he added in some talking like he was saying cuddly, cuddly before humping Keith. Also some more moves in there...though I still prefer his sneaker coming off. Said some weird phrase before the hot soup, his own way of asking Sherie to call him Buzz...made the yodel work perfectly, and sang Love is my Legs in an equally funny but different way than Norbert. And he brought the high note back for Dirty Rotten Number. I missed it. (in the original key)

Okay, now Keith. For the first couple of numbers, he seemed kind of there. Not as boring as last time, so definitely improved, but...nothing that made me like...think about his performance? Like he was being good but lacking the presence? But he started coming alive during Oklahoma. He made some really funny faces, and was having fun "dancing." Continued to be good during Ruprecht, again some nice faces and delivery of the Bush line. Did a *much* better job as Shiffhausen. Had more fun and cracked me up. Still loved his delivery of Love Sneaks In--found some heart in him. He really seemed to be falling for Christine. Oh, except the last note killed me. As usual, nothing terrible, as most people wouldn't notice it. But it did hurt my ear. And yeah, Dirty rotten Number was put back in it's original key. It seemed to be very high for Keith. he was struggling a bit with the ntoes in the beginning, but then he got it. Again, very much more like Lithgow, which was fine.

Ooh, and one very nice chemistry aspect. I don't remember where, but somewhere in that scene, Brian started flailing his arms at Keith, and right after Keith said he's a mute, Keith replied back with the flailing and they cracked up. Seemed to be something special for tonight, but you never know. But yeah, I really enjoyed their performances...makes the show closing sadder.

And everything and everyone else was magnificent as usual. Rak was out, which was sad, but Nina's a fine fill-in. Paula's back for the last couple of weeks.

It wasn't a huge, but good audience. Sara got some applause, and Sherie got huuge applause for the whole night. Well-deserved. She's still amazing as usual.

I was really appreciating Rachel's performance as Muriel, despite not quite working with Kind. She has a gorgeous voice, and made some nice faces.

Ooh that reminds me, I started in front mezz to the side, and moved to front row center during the second act. Reminds me of one more thing Kind did that I loved. I can't tell you if you would notice it as much sitting anywhere else, but at the beginning of Like Zis, when he asks Fred if he has anything...he started staring at Fred, and got really close in it, and I dunno I was right behind Fred, so it was really funny the way he did it from that perspective.

Always great from the front row--that's where I appreciated some of Rachel's faces, and noticed some more funny things Tom was doing as Nikkos.

Since I moved to the front, I didn't stand right away, so instead I stood when everyone took a bow together. Now, I've gotten to PMing this stuff more than posting, but this is shallow and about looks, so I'm gonna post it. It's so exciting b/c he's so cute. See, Chuck auditioned at my office a couple of weeks ago and we talked and he's soo much cuter when talking to you. Hehehe. So he saw me and winked at me at curtain call, which made me really excited. And...he hugged me at the stage door Greg Jbara Love Thread Part 5: Keeping the love for our true prance alive! I certainly felt a bit better about everything after that. He's so cute. Definitely my favorite bellboy.

I think I'm more upset about the show closing than the cast. Somehow that doesn't surprise me. Some of them were consoling me. Got out of the way when the stars came out, there was still a nice turnout at the stage door. Keith, Brian, and Richard were out quickly. Then Sherie came out, which was a nice treat to watch. She signed, took pictures, talked to people a while, and then one of the girls from Landscape of the Body came with friends to talk to her. It actaully took me a while to figure out why she was familiar, but that's why. It's fun to watch interaction without interrupting sometimes.

I talked to Jack for a while. Apparently there's this writer from variety who panned DRS when it was in San Diego, which lowered the advance it would have here. That same writer just wrote a rave about the tour. friggin critics.

Heh, then Sherie was getting her bike out, and she and Jack were joking about the fact that she had a helmet, and was she wearing it without the bike...she was like yeah New York is dangerous; I just always want to have this helmet on just in case. Heh.

Sara was last. I really am beginning to think a lot of people who say she doesn't come out just leaves before she does--she takes a while. But still is super sweet.

So I think I'm taking a DRS virgin to see it next week...and then I think just the final show.
