You posted about it over on the main board. If you hadn't, I wouldn't have known about it as fast as I did. For that, I thank you.

Oh. lol You're very welcome!
By the way...
Greg Love Thread creator Dirty Rotten Scoundrel (aka Liz) was recently at the show!
Great pictures!
ok, it;s official. I'm seeing the matinee on Nov. 1. and then have a talk back with the lighting designer who is an alum from our college. Hope to see Greg at the stage door but I doubt I will.
but it will be awesome to see him in the show! :)
How can you possibly go and NOT see Greg? Where's the love?!!!
Dre, Liz and I are going the evening show on Nov 1!
Take lots of pictures!
really?? sweet! I might see you but we have to leave around 7 or so to get back to school at midnight.
hey! remember Fred Lassen, the conductor from DRS? well, he's working on the Pride and Prejudice musical!

Wow it's been some time since I've been in a Greg thread. I lost track of it after awhile (yes, yes for shame). Hope all is well. I'm looking forward to hearing more about the show :) Maybe I'll actually get to see Greg in this show's run.
[edit] only slightly off-topic I got to meet Joe Cassidy during the DRS tour run last year. What a sweet guy! I shyly mentioned I used to watch Greg's webcam and he seemed rather surprised. Actually talked to me for a couple minutes. Too bad I didn't have my camera.

I live 20 minutes from Eastman and was planning on attending the event, but stupid work got in the way. I'm really bummed I didn't get to go. I had no idea that Fred was conducting the show though; I was mainly going to go because Donna Lynne Champlin (of Doyle's Sweeney Todd) was in the production, and I kind of love her a whole lot.
On another note, I'm going to see a production of The Pillowman tomorrow night and I couldn't be more excited about it.
And a Greg related note: Loved his little backstage video of Billy Elliot. Really brought back some DRS memories.
Have you all checked out the second episode of Greg's video blog? He's interviewing all the little ballet girls. (Some of which aren't nearly as young as they look!) Honestly, it's the cutest thing I've seen in a long, long time. He's so good with those kids!
Oh my dear, dear people. Get thee to New York City RIGHT NOW and see Billy Elliot as soon as possible. While you're there, get another ticket for next month. And then another for the month after that.
This is absolutely the most beautiful, inspiring, elevating, tear-inducing show I've ever seen. If I could write the emotions I'm feeling right now, this post would go on for pages and pages. The most exquisite dancing I've ever seen, inspiring choral works that make you want to grab a red flag and join the march.... (oops - wrong musical!). And solos - one in particular - that surgically tear out your heart. Greg has never been better - or sung more beautifully than this. I wish I were back there right now, hearing it again.
I tried to get a couple of pictures but I won't know if anything came out until later. I hope I get something for his web page.
BRAVO Greg and all the cast of Billy Elliot!

I am going to the Nov. 1st mat. as well.
Mamie, who was on for Billy?
I'm taking the kids to see it in a few weeks. I can't wait. I loved it when I saw it on October 1. I think Greg is absolutely heartbreaking. Tony, Tony, Tony, Tony, Tony!
Miss P - It was Kiril, who I believe you saw. I was so overtaken with it that I went ahead and got another ticket for 11/22!
wow.
That's all I can say.
The show was incredible. I was sitting in the Rear mezz. with my school and some of them were in tears at the end. It was brilliant. We had Trent as Billy, and like most people, I can't imagine anyone playing the same role. He was incredible. Nothing went wrong with the set but there was one deck crew person that had to come on to fix a board during the angry dance. Safety concern i bet.
Greg was wow. Seriously, we he came on and spoke, I couldn't believe it was him but it was. Great accent. (everyone had great accents!) And Greg's first solo was omg. it was really moving. I loved it. And his comedic timing in the second act was spot on. He was hysterical! and it reminded me so much of how funny he was in DRS.
The encore dance at the end made me a little angry. It didn't quite fit in with the end of the show. I know that audiences like a last big number but it was unnecessary. It was a little cool to see Greg in a tutu and dancing around.
Afterwards, we had a talk-back with the lighting designer. He answered so many questions and showed us that alum form our school can make it to Broadway one day, which is good news for some of us.
anyway, go see Billy Elliot as soon as possible! I mean, it was packed and they're still in previews! it's incredible!!
I've been waiting to hear your review, Dre! I'm so glad you liked it too.
Now - unlike you I thought the ending was perfect. The show needed something to lighten up the ending and I thought that ending worked because it showed everybody - including all the miners and the townspeople and the police, all supporting Billy and the dance. When it started I got this huge smile on my face - even though the eyes still held tears!
The only part I felt didn't fit in was the big dresses. I understand it was something coming from the boy's imaginations - but it felt like it came out of Fantasia to me!
I can't wait to see it again. (Did you get any pictures? I understand that you stayed for the post-show talk back, but it would have been nice if you could have seen Greg!)
haha. sorry it took so long Mamie.
I guess what I hated the most about the encore was that they all came out to bow first instead of going straight into it. My friend who saw it here and in London said that it was to show that the musical had ended, which I understand but I think that everyone would know if the house gets bright and everyone comes onstage in tutus that the musical had ended. but that's just me. :)
Yes, the big dresses made no sense. Supposedly, the lighting designer told us that in London, the ballet dancers are in them, so they don't look so big. Also, the dresses look more home made then Broadway style. and that there wasn't as mush background that comes down during the song. He said it really worked there, but here I guess they had to made it bigger. I don't know.
I didn't get any pictures. But, I had emailed Greg saying that I would be there with my college and that we were staying for a talk back with Rick, the lighting designer. After the show, we were waiting for Rick in the rear mezz. and I saw Greg come onstage to meet some friends in the house who were then brought onstage. I guess they had asked him what was going on in the mezz. cause he turned around and shouted up "Dre!" Everyone in my group looked at me and I shouted back "Hi Greg." and waved. he waved back and smiled. Then everyone was like, "how do you know him?" It was kinda cool. :) I'm going to try and see the show again during Thanksgiving break and hopefully see Greg then.
From the pictures from the Billy Elliot Gypsy Robe Ceremony, I'm guessing the next segment of Greg's video blog is going to be of the ceremony. :)
edit: yep, I was right. the video is up now and his kids are so cute!! Zachary did a great job filming onstage. a natural.

I'm going to try again when I get home, Dre. I tried 3 times to sign up and all I get is a blank page when I hit the ENTER key. (frustrating)
Looks like everyone's been gone for the holidays. Just popped in 'cuz I was watching TV and as a commercial ended I could've sworn it was Greg in it. Anyone else see it? It was for Olive Garden.... mmm I could go for some breadsticks right now!
Anyway hope everyone is doing well.
Yes, that was definitely Greg in the Olive Garden ad with his "daughter" and "wife".
He also had that ED one several months ago. He must've been making a killing off of residuals, because it aired every night multiple times during Wheel and Jeopardy.
