This is difficult to watch. How come no other chaperone was present? I feel so bad for this woman but she should not have tolerated it for a second. These kids need to be punished harshly,IMO.

The kids have not been punished. Like I said, they need a bus monitor with some balls who will really keep these little turds in line. I hope their parents and grandparents watch this. My guess is once the kids see how negative the feedback is they will then give us the big sad sorry eyes and remind us that,after all 'they are just kids' and expect to walk away from this. Didn't one of the abusers post the video to their own Facebook page?

I couldn't watch the whole thing either. Why didn't the bus driver step in? And why do kids that age even need a bus monitor? My son is 9 and they don't have a bus monitor. I feel horrible for that poor woman.

Thanks JbaraFan1 for that link. I am pleased to see the case is being investigated. I'd like to ask the parents some questions as well. What kind of person raises such terrible creatures? If I were the principal of that school I would not want those kids in my school.

Question for the kid who took the video: He swears up and down that he wasn't involved in this, but what was his intention in filming it? To take it to school officials? Why does he seem to be in the middle of the tormenters? Why is no one in the video questioning that he's filming it?

Oh well. These kids are all famous now and no doubt badass to their peers because of this video. Their infamy will no doubt trump any piddly punishment they will receive.

As for Karen, I hope her silence thus far has been under legal advice. We may not know the names of her tormentors, but she certainly does. Give 'em hell, Karen!

Those kids should be expelled for starters. I assume they have a monitor because without one, their behavior is even worse towards each other. I hope the school district finds another paid position for Karen and assigns big scary badass dudes as bus monitors from now on.

If these kids verbally abused her who says they would not have slapped her? Punched her? Ya know, just for giggles. No, these kids abused this lady and so far the school has not said one word. I smell law suit and pray the ACLU get involved. These kids need to be expelled and I wish it would go on their record permanently. Kids need to learn that their actions have consequences. They should know better.

Twenty years this lady has worked for this school district (some sites say 23) -- apparently she's been a bus monitor for 3 years.

I want the names of these kids posted and thrown out all over the internet like this video. I want this to follow them around for the rest of their lives.I want people to go up to their parents at work or at church or where ever and say, "God,what a horrible child you have!" Bully's deserve no mercy. Middle school kids this age should know better.

There were other kids on the bus. Their names will eventually be released.Still waiting to hear from the school or the Principal.

First off they should be expelled, secondly they should lose the privilage of bus transportation to school indefinately. Let their loving parents be resposible for getting them back and forth to school. Every morning and afternoon would be a reminder of what there ****ty spawn did. Hell I would like to see a short term in Juvie if necessary! Nip these little bastards in the bud!

“We're all standing here because of social media. It's 2012. Someone told me there were 100,000 hits on the video and the district's received emails from as far away as Australia so I can only imagine it picked up on the national level," said Steve Chatterton, Greece Police Department.

"We really have to focus on fact, and we are very concerned about (their) safety. These are most likely 12, 13, 14-year-old kids. There's people that are posting their addresses online, so we as a police department are concerned about that. There's people that are showing up here angry. We understand that. Give us time to look into the investigation. Please don't jump to conclusions.”

Klein described the four 7th and 8th graders who harassed her as partners in crime. She said they have been acting up the past couple months but said they've never attacked her like this before.

In hindsight, Klein said she should've taken the phone away from the student. She said she does want the kids who were involved disciplined but said she'll leave it to the district to decide what's appropriate.

Klein said there were about 30 other students on the bus when this was all happening when I asked how they reacted she said most were just talking amongst themselves and ignored it.

I'm totally on board that the behavior of these "children" is beyond horrendous and feel for the woman,(but didn't have the stomach to actually watch) but I do wonder -- if she can't/won't stick up for herself, how was she protecting/monitoring the kids on the bus? What is the ADULT BUS driver doing during this?

Does anyone know the date of this incident? I'm assuming it was very recent. If so, the reason no one has heard of how they are being dealt with is likely twofold: one, serious consequences (like expulsion) need to go through steps before it can actually take place. Additionally, since they are minors, school districts need to be very careful about what they say publically and even within the school.

(I've had students suspended from school and only been able to find out WHY from other students -- not from the admin.)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

What is the ADULT BUS driver doing during this?

The way it appears on what I saw of the video (I couldn't watch the whole thing), if the monitor was seated towards the rear of the bus, the driver would most likely not have been able to hear or be aware of what was happening. The incident was very insidious and evil. The incessant cruelty is absolutely horrifying.

The driver was driving. I can't fault the driver. They have enough responsibility on their hands.There should have been at least two monitors on board. I am disturbed that the Greece Police Department said this:

I don't know...that's not what I took away from the comment. It sounded more like the reason they became aware of it in the first place was due to social media since nobody actually came forward to report the incident when it happened.

Well, that really is not clear but if that is the case I sure as hell will cut them some slack. Nothing is said,but I wonder if the victim reported this to the school. If she had though wouldn't the school have taken action?The victim really should have filed a report with the Police Department. Her coming back in the new school year could make it a very hostile work environment with those students,especially if they have not been punished.

I've wondered some of the same things as dramamama, Borstalboy, etc. All I can do is guess, so I may be way off.

Sounds like one of the kids mentions something about it being the end of school. Not sure if they meant as in last day, or if it was close to the end. Especially IF it was the very last day, the kids may have stupidly thought that they could get away with more since school was officially out (again, if that's the case).

Could also be that Ms. Klein just wanted to get through the last ride and be done with it and that was why she didn't speak up more or alert the driver or something.

Could also be that this is taking place near the back of the bus, and the driver couldn't tell from his view what was being said.

Again, all guesses.

But yeah, as sick as the harrassment is, the punishment of these kids has got to be done by the book if it's going to really stick.

One of the reports I read (losing track) said that the district has requested YouTube remove the video. As of a few minutes ago it was still there.

One other thing -- I guess it was the initial YouTube user that posted it who said that it wasn't their video, that they saw it on Facebook and posted it on YouTube to "show the world how f*cked up kids are." (So one of the kids posted it to Fb maybe??)

I don't think she was saying they are investigating now only because the video got out.

I took it as had it not been for social media it would just be her word against theirs. That's if she even bothered to report it.

I couldn't bring myself to watch that videe because I cannot stand to see deliberate acts of cruelty. I did read some the of the comments the kids made that were transcribed from the video and I am disgusted. Who raised these animals? It seems that kids these days have no fear of consequences anymore because they believe that they are untouchable by adults. When I was their age I would never spoken to an adult that way, especially to an adult that was given charge over me.

I remember being scared sh!*less of being disciplined at school. Of course, I went to school in the days of corporal punishment when every school principal had a paddle that was a foot and half long and three quarters of an inch thick with holes drilled in it so air could pass through it when it was being swung.

She didn't report it (happened Monday) because school year was nearly over ... kids weren't always that bad ... she didn't feel threatened. Also she is hearing impaired and didn't actually hear everything the kids said until she saw the video.

If criminal charges are filed, will probably be in Family Court, according to police captain.

Instead of criminal charges Ms. Klein would like to see the kids "grounded all summer, or maybe all year." Also said she'd love an apology.

She's too nice!!!

Also, I hope this fundraiser is legit ... already past goal to raise $5,000 to send her on vacation. (Over $9,000 last I checked.)
