Hey, she's got another 30 days. This may go over $100,000 by then. Maybe she can retire and get away from those little sh*ts!

First off, I am glad that there is a fundraiser for her. She could use a needed vacation.

Furthermore, I feel like the issue with current youth goes beyond verbal insults. Many teens are in the mindset that nothing bad will ever happen to them. Even if something hits close to home, they neglect to use the event as a wake up call and feel that it was something that happened to someone else, not them. And, by being in that mindset, they feel that they can say and do whatever they want and feel as if they won't get in trouble. For example, say a teenage smoker found out that another smoker they knew got lung cancer. They would most likely think "it happened to THEM, but won't happen to ME. I am not far removed from being high school aged. And, there were more schoolmates then I could count who thought like this.

In order to stop bullying and discourage kids from bullying you have to show them there are consequences for their actions. What if this woman suffered from depression and went home and killed herself? These kids would be to blame,in my opinion.

If these kids are punished SEVERELY and their school mates see how harsh they were punished I am sure some, maybe not all, but some are going to think twice about bullying someone in the future.I still have to ask what kind of parents do these kids have? Do they let them do whatever they want? Spoil them? Tell me.

Last summer after work I picked my Mom up and drove her around town to run some errands. It was a Friday night and coming home we cut through the plaza where there is a movie theater. A bunch of kids were outside the theater probably waiting for their ride. Our windows were down and as I drove by them a couple kids began shouting at me and my Mom. At first I thought they were yelling at someone else and ignored them but as I looked through the rear view mirror I saw them pointing at my car and giving me some unpleasant gestures as I drove away. Just minding my business driving by and these kids just went wild. SO many parents drop their kids off at the mall or the theater and the kids do WHATEVER THE HELL THEY WANT. I see this every time I go to the movies. A bunch of rowdy kids with no supervision. I see them at the mall and they are just out of control. Yelling at people. Making obscene gestures. Swearing really loud, just misbehaving in general.

I'll bet anyone here the parents of these kids will be shocked to see that their little angels could do and say such things. They simply won't believe it.Despite the video, their little child could never say such vulgar things to an elderly person. So, I have to ask. What kind of parents do these little fu*&ers have?

IN the comments section was this exchange with someone who claimed to be one of the kids harassing the monitor:

"Mommy and daddy must hate you a lot, now? don't they?

Nope, to be frank they? actually love me and are happy to have me as their son.

Do your parents actually approve of their child? showing no respect to their elders? Do you disrespect your teachers as well?

I don't care what my parents tell me. I live life the way I want to live it. And yes, I treat my teachers like **** if? they're fat and ugly like the beluga whale we called the "bus monitor" shown in the video. "

Nice...

First of all, its the comment section. I NEVER EVER read comments. Why? Because usually only 12 year olds reply in the comments and they LIE. So, if this REALLY was one of the kids the cops will seize their computer during their investigation and it will only add to their troubles and maybe even get Mom and Dad in trouble as well. These kids have rotten parents and they need to be held accountable just as their bratty spoiled little sh*tty children. The bully's names, address, phone numbers, etc. are already all over the internet. They made this mess and now they are going to have to just sit back and take the abuse. Only instead of 4 kids against an elderly lady you got the entire planet gunning for these 4 kids. I hope their summer is a living hell.

I need to learn from you, romantico, and not read comments on YouTube.

I agree that if that really was one of the bus bullies commenting, they've just bought more grief for themselves by commenting like that. Like you said though, 12 year olds post in the comments, and they will lie, so it's very possible that the comments were by some troll.

As much as I despise what these kids did, and as much as I want to see them punished, I don't think posting their personal info online is appropriate. They are juveniles. That cannot be forgotten. What they did was unimaginably cruel and heartless, I'm not denying that at all, but it wasn't murder or rape, and vigilante justice isn't going to do any good in the long run. They need to suffer consequences for their actions, but that punishment needs to be meted out according to the law, not according to the Court of We Who Are Outraged Online. It's cathartic to discuss it and vent about it and all, but posting their personal info is going too far in my opinion.

I lost my **** when the kid reached around and flicked her.

I had to go walk around the block.

I think their names should be out there but nothing more. As angry as I am at these little brats I don't want anything violent to happen to them or their family. We live in an age where people feel they are exempt from any and all responsibility when it comes to their actions. If they say something racist or mean and hateful they hide behind 'freedom of speech',totally ignorant from the fact that with the freedom of speech comes responsibility. So often children and adults feel they can do onto others whatever they feel and then be pissed if they are not shown the respect they feel they are entitled to.

Oh and every time I check this site the amount is higher and higher. As of now the total raised is $67,544. About 6 thousand more since I last checked. I hope she takes a vacation and with the left over money she has she retires. This story WILL have a happy ending!

romantico

Few things. The first one is that I don't see what good would get done by putting the culprits names online for all to see. Yes, it would create a public mockery, but even thought it may make you feel better about the situation. I simply cannot see it doing anything other than that.

And secondly, I am of the mindset that making an example of a group of kids, is something that does nothing. Like I stated earlier, teenagers feel that unless something happens to them directly, they feel totally immune.

I am aware that it is tempting to yell at kids who are making fun of you or being tools. Don't. By doing so you're only adding fuel to the fire and giving them what they want. How does that do any good?

Lastly, don't totally blame the parents. I have met plenty of parents who raised kids who did things similar to what we were talking about. But, the parents themselves are people with amazing hearts of gold. Just because the kids a tool, doesn't equate the parents being one too. Sometimes, they are just as puzzled as you or I as to why their kids are acting the way that they are.

Well, I feel it is about responsibility. This event will follow them around for the rest of their lives. Every job interview, every guy or girl they meet who Googles their name, they will never escape it.This will show the world who they were at 13,14 years old. Besides,it is already done. Their names are out there.Probably posted by other students at the school. So, talking about it and giving reasons really doesn't matter at this point.People know who their parents are and what kind of kids they raised.

I disagree with your second point. Sure, some kids will always feel they are above the law but some would see the actions taken against these kids and think twice before bullying someone. If not, they are stupid and will learn eventually at a much higher price.

No idea what you mean about the yelling. The monitor was probably smart keeping quiet but a qualified monitor would have had all four of those kids names and I am sure they would have punished by now and this video may not have even been posted if the proper action had been taken early on.

I DO BLAME THE PARENTS! I assure you the problem starts there. They are clueless because they have no idea what goes on in their own children's lives.SO MANY Times, the children learn this behavior at home. They hear what their parent's say or their parents don't discipline them when they misbehave. This may not happen in every case, but the children's conduct reflects on the parent and what kind of job they did as a parent.I hope interviewing the parents is part of the Police Department's investigation.

We disagree STRONGLY over this and that's okay.I am glad it has a somewhat happy ending.I still feel the Monitor did not have the proper training. She could not handle these little s*its and was too weak for the job. She should not have been there or tolerated one second of this kind of behavior. Period. Hopefully the school will learn from this and train monitors on HOW TO HANDLE MISBEHAVED CHILDREN IN A SITUATION LIKE THIS!

These kids need to be disciplined and by not making an example or yelling or showing them who is in charge only adds to the problem!

SO HAPPY Karen's latest donations received is $117,498 and she still has til Fri Jul 20 at 11:59PM PT to receive more donations. Hopefully she can retire and enjoy life.

Did you do anything like this? I did some dumb stuff when I was that age as well but it never effected other people, usually just me.

No I never did anything quite like that. But definitely did stuff I'm glad wasn't captured on a youtube video. I'm sure we all did.
I worked in a middle school for four years. Kids that age are notoriously cruel to each other. Their brains haven't fully formed yet (especially the area that controls impulse control), they are still learning about empathy, and their bodies are being pumped with hormones.
I'm not trying to excuse their behavior. And they should suffer consequences, that's part of the learning process. But I think the whole public humiliation thing is a little extreme.

None of the kid's parents have reached out to apologize for their bratty kid's horrific behavior.

"Do your parents actually approve of their child? showing no respect to their elders? Do you disrespect your teachers as well?"

kec, there are some parents that put so much emphasis on self-expression that yes, they would approve of their child being disrespectful. Some parents believe that any correction will damage the children's psyche.

...or, they're just effing lazy and should never have had children in the first place.

I am following this story by reading this thread. I just can't get myself to watch the video.
I have a question about the fund raiser, though. How does that work? Are people just pledging to send that? Or have people actually sent the amount we are seeing? I would like to think she'll actually see that money and be able to retire.

I was wondering if anything would come of a stranger starting a fund ... while meaning on the part of those that donated -- my very cynical mind thought about the possibility of a scam. (Still not asserting that this IS a scam -- but now he has his own fundraiser? ODD.)

At 12 or 13, I don't think their actions should haunt them forever, as people DO change -- not all people, granted. How can they have a chance at redemption if they can never get away from this. YES, I think they should be dealt with harshly, but then like any criminal, they need the chance at a clean slate --eventually.

As for the parents not reaching out: I"m sure they already have lawyers (anyone facing expulsion should) and I'm sure they've been advised to say nothing -- else it is admitting guilt.

I thought it was like Kickstarter. Your credit card is not charged until the 30 days are up. My question is, do they send the $$$ to the account holder and he gives it to the victim or do they send it to her themselves. I am not sure. After all the feedback and outpouring of support,if this were a scam someone would have spotted it by now and said something.

Saying nothing is always wise. However, having their lawyers offer their apologies on behalf of one of the parents seems harmless. The fact that no one has apologized to this poor lady is just shameful.

APOLOGY = Guilt. There will be none.

I would think no one would know its a scam (IF it is) until the woman doesn't get the money. I pray it is not.
