I polled all of my straights. They weren't offended by their actions, but all agreed that Heath got hold of some bad product and was having a really, really bad hair day.

I'm waiting for Philly and WBAF to weigh in. Perhaps they're taking the time to actually read this thread, in which they will see that my irreverence did not kick in until at least page two. Maybe they will also see that WBAF has been jerking his knee throughout this entire thread and not really saying anything.

For starters, I made a comment on this thread way back on page 2, so I am very well aware of the thread's content.
Second, it is always a shame that an intelligent spitited debate usually cannot occur on these things, as there are always a few whose demand for attention overwhelm any of the serious opinions expressed.
And third, and I wasnt going to say this, but, I am very glad that my personal SAG ballot had a check next to Mr. Hoffman's name.
I wish everyone a fabulous day, and enjoy the unusual East coast weather!

I think I've succeeded in making plenty of my points in this thread. I just choose not to make them in a dour and humorless fashion.

intelligent spitited debate usually cannot occur on these things

I was having a spirited debate several pages back, until WBAF's knee jerked and Bso was (unfairly) accused of spewing garbage.

Since then I've been called a bigot more than once in this thread and not been shown how I am one.

And third, and I wasnt going to say this, but, I am very glad that my personal SAG ballot had a check next to Mr. Hoffman's name.

And, I hope you'll pardon me, but what the f--- does that have to do with anything?

To go back a few pages:

Actually, Kringas, I made that very comment on this thread. It was ignored because, well, I had previously been spewing nonesense. THEN, Jane2 makes the same point I had earlier made - and everyone agrees. Why? Because I didn't actually see what happened.

But, like I said, I know how Heath and Jake have been acting in personal interviews.

WBAF - Have you actually been reading what garbage YOU have been "spewing?"

Honestly - their job is to MAKE a movie, then PROMOTE the movie. No one said they have to agree with its themes. And, I'm sure they do. But again, you saw as much as we saw (well, except me heath and jake sag near a red carpet and some tulips). So don't call use the bigots because we disagree with you.

And, yes, it is MUCH easier to name call then actually defend your point.

Yeah, BSo, I realized after I commented about it that it was this thread all along. The fact that you and I were having a spirited, non-confrontational discussion for quite a while has been completely ignored, like much of what I've said on this thread.

Again, I think it's funny that I didn't care at all for the movie, yet I've been vocally trying to defend its stars. It's funny that so many who loved this movie are so quick to pounce on its stars for their alleged homophobia.

But what do I know? I didn't get to vote for the SAG awards which, apparently are not about acting, but for podium behavior!

Alas, I now know where to turn as a cure for my insomnia. As far as humor is concerned, please alert me when its presence arrives, as I would very much like to take part in it. Oh, and by the way, never come into a battle of the wits without weapons.
Cheers!

When having a conversation with someone, it is best to look AT them, not at the mirror.

You may end up talking to yourself.

Indeed. Who needs wits when one has a SAG card?

I replayed it on DVR and my impression was that they were laughing at the horrible text they were required to read. That's all I got out of it. Didn't offend me in the least.

WannaBeaFoster said: I never said I sensed anything anti-gay and referenced his first post.

WannaBeaFoster's first post includes the statement: But that display can be interpreted, and will be interpreted by mainstream Americans who watched, as a reinforcement of all the jokes being made by the big mouthed bigots already making a joke of the film.

Does that not imply that it could be interpreted as anti-gay? So you didn't sense it, but you think they gave it off, essentially.

Sometimes it's not what you say, honey. It's what you don't say. You can't backpedal your way out of this.

I'm a big blubbering fan of the damned movie, who gets teary every time I hear the downbeat of the guitar theme in the TV ads, and I wasn't offended. Jeesh, it's their movie, they made it, they own the characters, have already won awards, each, so if they wanna stand up with a few glasses of bubbly and have a few giggles because the text prepared to introduce the footage was purple -- in the wrong sense -- and not remotely appropriate for their voices ("their fate is a tragic one..." -- anyone in WEST SIDE STORY would've had trouble with those kinda Cliff Notes), let the boy be boys. Did anyone present think they aren't wildly proud of the film?? Everyone there has read wonky PR text before, and since it was a room fulla actors, they got it.

But I do think Michelle turned to Heath and said "if you ever put your hand on your hip like that in public, I'm smackin' you upside the head.",

I watched the whole sorry show, and people had problems reading the cue cards all evening long...long before the BM boys had their turn to look foolish. I had been under the impression that the reason was was perhaps that they were reading it blind, and also that something about the process...be it the timing or the print...made the words, stupid as they were, difficult to read.
