HSM 2!

Oh how could I forget Efron's singing reflection...it was just so incredibly ridiculous that it was utterly entertaining for all the wrong reasons.
Did someone actually think that there were "tear-jerking" moments? None of these kids could act, the only reason I felt tears at one point was because the alcohol ran out while I was watching this...

I thought it almost completely lacked the charm of the first one. First, none of the songs were catchy in the same way as the original one. Did someone else write them? There was something just sort of forced about most of it, and Efron had this bizarre grimace throughout. His big angsty solo really did look like some scary, sweaty, coked-up rant. I was actually hoping Gabriella would end up with Ryan. Not as hot, and probably gay, but at least he doesn't look like a future wife batterer. I'm glad the fat girl got a larger role this time. They also needed to show Troy's dad shirtless at the pool a few times.

I watched it tonight. It was as cheestastic as expected. Unfortunately, I didn't have my friends to snark on it with me as I did the first time, so it wasn't as much fun. They ripped off the plotline of Dirty Dancing, but we didn't even get to see Sharpay in the embarrassing hula number. Or the awesome dance routine where Vanessa finally does the lift.

Ryan managed to be even gayer in this movie. That was a shock. How far can Disney push him before they have to comment on it? I remember hoping that Ryan and the cooking boy would hook up in the first movie. Ah well. There's always senior year.

It's more worrisome that these shows portray kids scheming, lying, and acting stupid.

Yes, isn't it horrible to show kids...acting like actual kids? I don't know what Care Bear-esque schools your children attend, but ever since preschool, I knew some pretty evil, manipulative kids.

For those that missed the first movie, a hilarious recap

I have actually seen a top-secret copy of the script for HSM 9 !

Troy refuses to get help for his meth problem. A pregnant-again Gabriella is left to take care of little Gaby and Troy Jr. all alone in their trailer, as Troy disappears on days-long benders with his "best friend" Chad. ("Gabriella, you just wouldn't understand.") (There's a lovely ballad for the two guys, working title "I wish I knew how to quit you." )

Ryan settles down in West Hollywood with his lover, but trouble ensues when he meets cooking boy again at the 10th reunion, and old feelings are rekindled. Who will he choose???

Meanwhile, Sharpay gets pregnant by that Black guy who always hits on her, and she is disowned by her wealthy family. With nowhere else to turn, she moves into the trailer with Gabriella and her brood. Big dance finale (of sorts) in the trailer park.

HA! I love it! EXCEPT

Awesome. Chad did say he would "jam" with Ryan anytime...

I joked about Sharpay and an embarrassing hula number earlier. Um, check out the bonus track on the soundtrack. I swear I didn't know before. Yikes.

and there was that lyric about "I'll show you how I swing" or something like that re: HSM 2!

The thing that drove me the most crazy hasn't been mentioned yet! The horrid, horrid lyrics. I think the composer would write, let's say, 8 bars and repeat repeat add several "yeah!"s and some "Ohhhh!"s and, there you are, a three minute song. Every song followed the same formula, and this was especially evident on the showing that I saw (the sing-a-long!). My head almost exploded. Ryan wore too many hats. I wondered what he was hiding under there. That other kid had a Side-Show Bob haircut and I am not a fan of those. It also seemed like they would sometimes forget that they were supposed to be "singing" and suddenly move their lips and then concentrate on the dance so hard they forgot to sing again... Milli Vinilli did it! You can too! One last thing... did Zac's reflection in the water thing remind anyone of Pocahontas's "Just Around the Riverbend?" The part where she sings "Will I marry Kokoum? Is all my dreaming to an end..."
Rest of it? Cracktastic!

when I saw it, I immediately thought of the myth of Narcissus. I thought he was going to try to kiss his reflection, and drown.

Just to let you guys know, there will be a HSM3 for a 2008 release. Still not sure wheter it will be for television or cinema release.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0962726/

Oh, and about the comment that was made about showing HSM2 to their kids if they were a parent, I would never do that! I would rather show all of the classic Diney cartoons that I loved as a kid to my child before I even torture them with the likes of HSM2!

This is going to become like 'The Land Before Time' franchise.

I can't wait for High School Musical 10: The Great Longneck Migration, when Sharpay moves away to college.

After 8 years of getting left back, of course.

Just watched it. I liked the first one better, and that's not saying much. I did like more Corbin in this one, but really didn't like how the other kids had SO much to do. It should've been just a Troy/Gabriella/Ryan/Sharpay thing, with maybe Corbin, and not Monique (she did as much as the pianist, Zeke, and Kelsi). "What Time is It?" was an awesome song. The boys were amazing; the girls, not so much.

"Golden Throat, this is Jazz Choir."

Adding a bit, I really hope Corbin, Lucas, and Zac can get away from this franchise. They're pretty good actors, and I'd like to see them in more than these dumb movies.

I agree - Zac (or all of them rather) need to get away. From recent interviews he's done- he hints at his unwillingness to go ahead with the franchise.

Disney will pump these movies out whether or not the leads, Ortega, locations, writers etc are involved. Our children's children will have HSM in their lives.

Of course we all saw Hunky StageManager2! re: HSM 2!

And from what I saw in interviews, Zac seems to want to get out. From what I hear though Disney contracts SUCK and are not the easiest things to get out of. Those that have been mentioned really should get out because they have real talent and I would like to see them use it on better things!

What on earth is up with the overly synthesized singing? They sounded like robots. I am watching it now (I DVRed it) so that I will be able to discuss it with my students because this is THE movie right now. *eye roll*
