Mirren is the hottest older woman I've ever seen.
So gorgeous, daring dress, but she totally pulled it off.
I'm happy with the results! This almost makes up for the Tonys, but I'll reserve my satisfaction for Oscar time.

Wow. I was perfectly fine with every award... except Best Picture (Drama). I liked Babel, but that and Little Children were the weakest BP nominees, imho.
PS - I'm so happy for Ferrera.

I LOVE Ugly Betty, so happy both for the show and then again for America.
Although- who was that stupid woman doing the 'interviews' on the side of the stage as the winners came offstage? Good gawd she was annoying as all hell!
"So what do you wanna say to the people who didn't want you to play this part?" "And those other people who didn't want you?" I mean, seriously?? Why not just stand up there and go "you don't really think you deserve to be here, do you???"
America should have just taken her Golden Globe to the side of that bint's head, and it would've been perfectly understandable to me, but America's too classy for something like that.
And- Babel. Ugh!

BABEL is the best picture of the year among the nominees, hands down.
I'm rejoicing that it won!

Exactly.
What about BABEL makes people go "Ugh?"

I don't know anyone who doesn't watch "Ugly Betty". Great show. I'm glad America was recognized.
I guess I'll have to see "Babel" now. It looks good visually, but I get the impression that it takes itself too seriously--but that's just from the trailer, what do I know. I was rooting for "The Queen" or, even better, "The Departed"...both fantastic films with just enough humor. At least Mirren (duh) and Scorsese walked away with something.
And...um...I'm a little terrified to say it on BWW, but I'll also have to see "Dreamgirls" now. I've been busy! I swear! OK, that's really not an excuse for someone who's had the chance to see it since early screenings.

Posted: 1/16/07 at 12:36amSo I'm watching the E! Post show stuff right now, and the woman interviewing Helen Mirren went to pick up both of her Globes and dropped one of them. Only on live TV, folks. Only on live TV.

Babel was definitely on my list of top five least favorite movies of 2006. It managed to be both overwrought/overly dramatic, and yet leave me feeling nothing, except for the thought that "yeah sometimes bad stuff happens when people make bad decisions." Not *all* of the people made bad decisions, but most of them.
It was a VERY IMPORTANT MOVIE, and how do I know that it was VERY IMPORTANT? Because it would not shut the hell up about how VERY IMPORTANT it was. I want to feel something at a movie, I don't want to be told 'this is what you're supposed to be feeling right now at X point in Y storyline'- Babel told me what to feel, rather than creating something that would make me feel.
I thought the premise of the movie was very brilliant- I love the idea that we're all connected, and how you have to listen in order to be understood. And the film itself was beautifully shot. But the 'intertwining stories' were MacGyvered together with bubblegum and paperclips, and left me feeling nothing at the end of two hours except for a gladness that I was watching it at a free screening.
This is why for me Babel = ugh!
Then again I am not a member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, so what do I know?

I was so mad that Weeds was shutout.
In general I was disappointed with some of the winners.
I also love watch all the drunkards giving their speeches and introductions though (such as Hugh Grant, Tom Hanks, Warren Beatty, and I forgot who else).

"It was MacGyvered together."
That may be my new word of the day. I plan to use "MacGyvered" at least 5 times today.
FWIW...I share your sentiments on Babel. Overwrought and pretentious if you ask me.

I just gotta say: UGLY BETTY winning. I was so happy.
America winning. I cried. I was so happy for her.
She deserved and her speech was so emotional.
Brava, America. Brava.

MINOR RANT:
I was pissed that we didn't get to see Jennifer Hudson's initial reaction at being named Best Supporting Actress (by George Clooney, no less) because the camera was briefly blocked by someone at her table. Damn cameraman!

All in all, I was actually pretty happy with how the awards went...
Except for Best Song and Animated Feature...WTF was with that? Happy Feet was easily the best, and Listen sh!ts all over Song of the Heart, or whatever it's called...
