"Ted had time (years?) to get used to and control his power. peter did not. and from the way the events unfolded it suggested the peter was much stronger/powerful than ted ever was. remember ted never exploded or came close to it, so there is no "continuity problem." "
That is not what they presented in the show at all- Ted had little to no control over his power (blowing up the FBI van, killing his wife, and blowing up the Bennett's house were all decidedly "accidental")
It is true that Peter did not have good control over the nuclear power, and there may be some truth to the "all the heroes were there" theory. But it all simply boils down to- it was sloppily executed, and left me very disappointed.
Again, I actually like what happened, it is just very frustrating to see how these last three episodes played out.
Starting from the point where I actually decided to give the creators credit for a great show, it got very slack.
It is because I really enjoyed the show all year and that I think they could have done a much better job that I am so critical of this finale. I wanted great, would have settled for well developed, and got disjointed.
There were some tremendous moments, when Nathan decided to help Peter being one of them, and the Claire and Horned Rim Glasses moments remained top notch.
I also thought the "epilogue" was quite interesting. It is fun to think that they could develop an entire history, a Heroesverse, if they were willing to put some time and thought into it.

Peter could have flown off on his own, I guess.
But it didn't seem like he could do much of anything - he was using all his energy to control "the bomb."

Well, obviously Peter was in no control of his powers, that's the reason he was about to explode in the first place. If he couldn't control the radiation power, why would he be able to control the flying one?
Also, the only way Claire could stop Peter was by shooting him in a specific part of his brain, the same part that Claire pierced when she was about to get raped, and the part that Sylar put the glass through when he "killed" Peter. They could have always removed the bullet afterwards so I don't know.
In reality, the episode was very anti-climatic towards the end. Everyone kept saying that the two episodes before were boring because they were setting everything up for a big finale...I'm still waiting.
I'd be quite upset if season 2 deals with a bunch of different characters. I'd be even more upset if Sylar is alive indeed, we had enough of him in this season, he proved to be boring at the end, move on. I suppose season 2 could deal with this man that Molly saw--anyone else thinks that Molly will be adopted by DL and Nikki? I was hoping DL would die so Nikki and Peter could end up together, but oh well.
Is Greg Grunberg out of this show as well? He never finishes a show, does he?

Eh, I was not very impressed with the finale, it was alright though, I guess. But for something that the entire season was building up to, it seemed like it was kind of thrown together without much care. There were so many weird moments and what seemed like wasted time when they really should have been cramming every minute of this episode to tie up everything that had happened the whole season.
The absolute most ridiculous part of the episode had to be when Peter had his "vision" of the past when he was a nurse.
Peter: What is this, a dream?
Simone's dad: Does it really matter? That's not important.
Like honestly, the writers couldn't figure out what the hell was going on? That was infuriating/so absurd.

I think that part of what I was a little disappointed with was that they never dealt with the set-up for the five years in the future episode. They didn't have to given that everything could well have happened after the bomb, but it would have been cool to see how we would have ended up with that future if the bomb went off (e.g. Nikki and Peter meeting, for example).
The finale was good, it just didn't pack any punches or twists that one would expect in the season finale of this type of show.

from zap2it.com:
We can now answer, more or less definitively, one of the burning questions about the finale of Heroes in May. To wit: Why the heck couldn't Peter fly away by himself?
"Here's how it was explained to me," says Adrian Pasdar, who plays' Peter's (Milo Ventimiglia) brother Nathan and who ferried him to the sky to explode. "He was unstable, unable to control his powers. And if he did fly off he wouldn't have been able to control" any of the other powers he'd absorbed, most pertinently the explodability Peter got from Ted Sprague.
One gets the sense the actors have been asked this question a couple times. Jack "HRG" Coleman, standing next to Pasdar at a press event on the Heroes soundstage Thursday, notes that the answer was in the show: "There was a line where he actually said, 'I can't do anything.'"
(The full line, which Peter says to Nathan shortly after he flies into Kirby Plaza, is "I took his power. I can't control it. I can't do anything.")
why peter could not fly.

I think this season is getting better with each episode; they are getting back to good ol' fashioned storytelling.
My question, however, is when are Suresh and Parkman going to consummate their relationship?!?

The last two episodes have been pretty good, but they continue to have the major distraction of some terrible characters- in the middle of an otherwise fascinating episode we had to deal with the idiotic "wonder twins" and the newest incarnation of Nikki/Jessica/Blagtastic
I loved KristenElle, the Peter and Adam in prison, Nathan disfigured and something else.
It is funny coming back to this thread, my issues with the end of last season have been the major issues with all of this season before the last little while.
At least I am once again excited to see the show, after nearly dropping it 3 weeks ago.

Loved last night's episode, and am getting into the series again. I was pretty wary of the first few episodes of this season, but they are getting better and better. All of the story lines will eventually come together, so I have no problem waiting through some of the more boring characters right now.

Posted: 11/13/07 at 12:17pmI read recently that not all of the new characters survive much longer. Methinks the wonder twins are about to suffer the black ooze themselves.

Just watched it, since I missed it last night. Finally, we get some intrigue and story movement. I still could have done without the twins backstory (not interesting or relating to anything else, very predictable -- why not give us Sylar-losing-his-powers explanation instead?), but other than that, vast improvement. Nice to see that Adam is actually interesting outside of the horrid Japan storyline. I love Elle and Kristen Bell so far. And! Now we have a pretty good indication of what Angela Petrelli's power is. Awesome.
As much complaining as there's been about the new characters (and I hate the Wonder Twins as much as the next person), I think what's truly killed the first part of this season is the way they handled old characters. Why trap Hiro and Peter, both in my mind the very hearts of the show, in plodding, thankless storylines for seven episodes? There was no story direction or indication of how everything would come together. We should have (as I think Kring acknowledged) gotten Peter's viral apocalypse future in the first or second episode, and this week's could have come much earlier. Season one had some pacing problems as well, but at least we knew from Isaac's paintings pretty early on where things were heading and by the fifth episode had the "Save the cheerleader, save the world" mantra.

Im so there with the annoying Wonder Twins stuff, but the rest was pretty compelling. Now I am starting to wonder what Mother Petrelli's power is, as she is one of the 'twelve' and has spawned some dandy sons. Next week should ROCK! And I get to see it on DirecTV flying to NYC! Very Nathan of me. :)

Posted: 11/13/07 at 6:34pmA lot of people (cleverer than I) picked up on Ma Petrelli's creepy closeness to Nathan's wife and guessed that her power is the power of persuasion. Which makes a lot of sense, given her interactions with Nathan last year. It'll be interesting to see if that pans out. Updated On: 11/13/07 at 06:34 PM
