Ok..just got to watch the latest episode.
I agree Eden killed herself, but to me it looked like Sylar was using her own power against her. Anyone else get this feeling? Like she wasn't going to kill herself, but he got into her head and made her turn the gun on herself. Maybe he's now able to absorb powers without killing the "Hero" first? Or does he use the "Hero" 's power to kill them? Since Google Girl's power was her intelligence, and she really died of a brain anyuresum.
Loved the little moment between Claire and Peter. If she wasn't 15 I'd think maybe they were setting up the beginnings of a romance storyline, but since she's only 15, I hope they're not! But I do think they should move foward with the flirting between Matt and the detective! That was cute!
I still think we're going to see a division of "the heroes" in the next few episodes into "the heroes" and "the villians", with Nathan heading up the villians group.
Why do you think Matt got a bloody nose when he tried to read the Haitian's mind? Do you think he could actually hurt himself trying to use his power?
I'm curious to see where Mohinder really figures in all of this. Yes, he knows who all the Heroes are, but they are doing a fine job of finding each other without him right now. That said, I'm really enjoying his storyline....even though I know it bores most other people. I'm curious to see if he has a power, since his father alluded to his sister having "a genetic anomaly".
Wendy-I am so glad I am not the only one that likes the Mohinder storyline. I find it reallly interesting and wonder what he is really going ot end up doing.
Re: Matt's bloody nose.
It's a popular conceit in comics that psychic powers (telekinesis, telepathy) cause nose bleeds when you push them too hard.
What is it you guys like about the Mohinder storyline?
I just can not get into it. He was alright the first time he was in New York, trying to find his father. Then he finds out his father was murdered, that he likely discovered the genetic anamoly he was looking for, an apartment full of nutty stuff that disapears overnight... and suddenly he doesn't believe there was anything to his father's work and he goes back to India??
where he sits for days staring at the same blasted computer screen.
I think Chandra (Mohinder's father) is very interesting, he is the one with the issues and intrigue... and he has been dead the entire series. There is a possibilty the storyline could get better, but I also foresee way too much of him wandering around saying the same thing over and over again to various heroes. Once they know they are genetically inclined to superpowers, what is his point?
I like Mohinder discover the person his father really was, which was not the man Mohinder believed him to be.......just like the "heroes". Mohinder always strove to please his father, and now he feels he has a chance to do it, and in a way, he owes it to his father.
Although I do have to say, that computer screen, "Are you sure you want to quit?"....how blatently obvious was that?
I don't think Claire's dad has the nullify-ing power for two reasons.
1. Mohinder's father would have known when he was telling him about Claire.
2. When Sylar was caught, Eden and the Haitian were there... Claire's dad, if I remember correctly, wasn't. It seems like he'd be kinda important...
I think Eden purposely killed herself before Sylar could so he would not be able to take her power...
BUT, if Sylar was able to throw her through the glass, why didn't he just do that with Claire's dad in the first place?
Without reading this whole thread can someone tell me if this is meant to be the kind of show where you need to see it from the beginning for it to make sense? I saw one episode a couple weeks ago and was completely and utterly confused. The particular episode I saw (this may or may not be a spoiler to someone who knows the show but hasnt seen this) had an asian man go back in time to a diner girl and another plot with a guy good at manipulating watches who seemed pretty evil.
There were either "power disablers" somehow attached to the room which Eden turned off, or the Hatian was around, or HRG has some kind of power blocking ability. (Which is a matter of intense debate.)
M_S, nah you can just catch right on at any time, I am sure that episode made perfect sense to you.
ETA: (This last comment was meant sarcastically.)
it really didnt. it was jumping from city to city and I wasnt sure if these people knew each other or who this diner girl was or why she was significant.
I would think it's pretty confusing to just jump in. I missed episode 2, and there are things happening that were explained then.
They re-run the episodes on SciFi, not sure when or what order though.
Mistress, they won't be showing any new episodes for the rest of the year and well into January (as far as I know, please correct me if I am wrong), so you'll probably be able to catch the re-runs from Episode 1. I love Heroes and you'll probably be able to catch it if you've missed one episode or two (reading a very detailed re-cap online), but it'd be hard to catch it from episode 11 and get it. The beauty of it is how they reveal something new in each episode and how the characters keep coming together.
Didn't the EW interview say that all of the heroes would not come together until the last episode of the season?
*SPOILERS*
Now, about Peter's dream, no one has mentioned the fact that Claire actually tells him "I'm sorry" and that Isaac is impeding Simone from running towards him. My theory from that was that Peter's explosion was somewhat planned, a sacrifice he had to make for the "greater good" (as they said 10 times an episode in the last 2 or 3 seasons of Charmed). It'd certain explain why Claire apologizes and leaves.
I am certainly going to miss Eden, I hated her from Episode 1 because from the second she "saved" Mohinder I knew she was working undercover. When I realized she was trying to help Isaac and that she stood up to Claire's father, she became one of my favorites. Sad to see her go, that scene was very strong.
They have got to stop taking so much time to develop Nikki's character, she was one of my favorite characters but the way they have been writing her character lately, she is no different than someone with schizofrenia. Have they ever said Nikki and Jessica are twins? They have to start defining Nikki's power, can she channel death people? Does she have a power at all or is it only Jessica? As I see her now, they have not shown us who she is, what makes her part of this group, or where she is going. There is so much potential to develop this character, they got a magnificent actress to portray this role, it'd be sad to see them killing her off just because they never set out to define who she was.
I definitely do not think it's Claire's father with the power, I do wonder how he became involved with the Haitian, I doubt the fact he adopted Claire--someone with powers--was an accident. I wonder if her biological parents had powers, so far they have not really defined whether there's a parent-offspring connection, though the fact Mika has powers seems to suggest so.
They have yet to define Hiro's time-traveling rules. When Hiro was kissing Charlie, did he just disappear and she was kissing the air? Did that Hiro stay there and the Hiro we're following took a turn to another reality? If he can't change the past as he says, why was he able to turn back in time to stop the bomb and why was his future self able to visit Peter and tell him the now infamous line "save the cheerleader, save the world"?
There are so many questions, I cannot believe we won't have any Heroes for such a long time and when they do come back it'll be sans Eden
The dream was confusing, to say the least. Everyone in the dream has a power except Ando and Simone. Now we know why Ando is there, beause he's traveling with Hiro, and has become like a sidekick. But why would simone be in the dream? Her significance doesn't seem great enough to warrant her being there. It's obvious, from his reaction to his powers, and the way he appeared in the dream that Nate is going to be heading down the negative path.
all that being said, I still want more Clea Duvall. I love that girl. I've loved her ever since her appearance on Buffy nearly 10 years ago and have continued to love her through Can't Hardly Wait, the Faculty, She's All That, But I'm a Cheerleader, 13 Conversations about One Thing. All of it.
The reason I think HRG (Claire's dad) has some kind of nullifying power is because he seems to be in complete control of the two super beings we've seen him with so far. That suggests that he can either nullify powers or else he's immune to powers used on him.
That would explain why he didn't know about his daughter at first; her power is not something she can use ON him.
His presence with Peter in the cell seems to be the trigger that started making Peter sick, too, which makes me think Peter's absorption power had a reaction to HRG's nullifying power, although it's weird that Claire's healing factor didn't help him out.
then again, that bolsters my theory that HRG is the power nullifier. Remember, the only thing we've seen the Haitian do is telepathic/mind control so far; there's been no suggestion he can suppress powers otherwise.
Watching at least some of the past episodes is essential to understand what is going on, luckily they are all on the NBC website as streaming links.
That sounds like as good of a theory as any I have heard about HRG Bway. I keep thinking that it may have even been intentional, that HRG did something to Peter to make him sick. (Not sure at all about that one though.
Rayandallthatjazz,
I don't think they ever said that Jessica and Niki were twins. It seems likely that there is some element of mental instability involved, but it makes Niki a character much like Dr.Jekyl or Bruce Banner. (Most likely Bruce Banner with Jessica as "the Hulk" or she is just nuts.) Either way she has super strength as Jessica.
I want to know about how HRG and the Hatian came together as well, I figure it was due to the "boss." HRG knew Claire has powers, he said that he adopted her after "something went wrong" when he was interacting with her parents.
While they have not defined Hiro's time travel rules well, they have established that when he travels he leaves the timeline he was in, so yes Charlie would have been left kissing the air. Hiro has not changed the past (the present) from when he went into the future yet, the idea is we are supposed to not know if the bomb can be stopped. Obviously Future Hiro did not just come back and "stop the bomb" it seems likely that his very measured and brief interaction was that way for a reason. (One that I do hope they explain.)
1. Liverpool, don't forget Clea's character in "Girl, Interrupted".
2. ray-andallthatjazz86, did you really just call Ali Larter a "magnificent actress"??? Have we been watching the same show?
OK, not Meryl Streep magnificent, but I actually enjoy her acting a lot. I like the way she handles Nikki's emotional aspects (I thoroughly enjoyed the scene where she talks to Micha's principal and asks for her money back) and the way she goes back and forth between the two personalities within her. Just my opinion though, I don't know what other people think of Ali Larter's acting in the show.
About Nikki having her "Hulk," Jessica has more than super strength, how did she know how to carry out all those plans to get the money that DL was supposed to get? Perhaps Jessica knew some things about DL that Nikki didn't. This is the most confusing storylines of all and so far the one I cannot connect directly to the rest of the heroes.
Did anyone else think that Peter's explosion was not necessarily accidental but self-sacrificing from the way the heroes seem to know he'd explode (Claire saying "I'm sorry," Isaac stopping Simone from going to him, etc)?
Oh, there's definitely some allegory going on about Niki becoming "a whole person." I waffle back and forth on whether or not it's a Hulk idea, a Jekyll and Hyde, or else just a losing of control.
I think it might end up being a bit of all of that rolled into one. We're seeing Jessica no longer ALWAYS has the upper hand in taking over the body now. I think we'll eventually see Niki reconcile within herself whatever trauma it is that has caused her powers to be suppressed under a fake identity.
Also, this is something similar to Jean Grey and the Phoenix as well, especially as they made her out in the film. Losing control for Jean could cause the Phoenix essence to take over, so Niki has not quite learned how to rein it in yet.
I'm still holding to HRG having some kind of power. Granted, that makes one wonder why Sylar didn't bother trying to escape from his cell sooner...but, even if the Haitian is who was blocking his power, I REALLY doubt HRG would have left him free to use his powers again.
I have to ask:
Why are the father referred to as HRG and Charlie as Google Girl?
I assume Charlie is referred to as Google Girl because she knows just about everything. Just my guess.
I also wonder why Claire's father is HRG.
They're the popular "online discussion" names of the characters. Google Girl because, yes, she's like your own personal search engine.
HRG refers to what Claire's dad was called before we knew he was Mr. Bennett: he was identified by the horn-rimmed glasses he wears.
Love all these theories - wish I had something constructive to add to the discussion. There's been some talk in other forums about HRG's boss, the man on the other end of the phone, being Linderman. What do we think about that?
Oh, I think I read a spoiler story somewhere (EW, perhaps) that sort of belched that out and I think it's been confirmed.
Am I the only one who thinks Nikki's two personalities have nothing to do with her powers?
I'm totally convinced that she developed split personality disorder in her youth because of the emotional trauma her father and "Jessica" referred to. It would have been a coping device her mind used after her sister's death. It is common in these cases for one personality remembers what happens to both personalities, while the other would lose time and not be able to remember what was done when the other personality had surfaced. (By the way, split personality disorder is NOT schizophrenia. I've heard some people refer to her behavior as schizophrenic.)
Of course, there remains the question of why only Jessica has the super-strength and fighting ability. I think this is a product of mental instability, her mind kind of blocking off the ability when she's Nikki. The mind is incredibly powerful and I would have no doubt in its potential to do something like that.
I don't really see why she would have formed another personality that claimed to be her sister unless it was a psychological coping mechanism in response to her sister's death.
