I am not surprised. it ran through my mind as I was reading the book. I just knew there was something more going on between the two of them. For me, it didn't need to be put out there or implied more for adult readers.

PLEASE No more bragging about how you knew unless you have proof that you ever said it BEFORE Rowling made this announcement.

Huh. Did not see that coming. But it makes sense. I rather like it.
I starred in a short film called Magnetic Personality. Check it out!

I am not bragging. Ok, I "thought" there was something more between them. Does that make you happy? I have never said to anyone that I knew he was gay. it was an observation I made when reading the book. So get off of my back....PLEASE.

Sorry princess. Just pointing out the absurdity of people lining up to say they "Knew" this completely unknowable fact. Wasn't trying to ruffle your petticoats, much less "Get on your back"

My cousin called me at 6 this morning to tell me the big news. Not quite momentous enough to warrant me waking up several hours too early, but why not.
Right on with #9 on the list, Joe.

Apology accepted. And I don't wear petticoats anymore. They always seem to ruin them at the dry cleaners. :)

I see DG's point. But I can't get upset that she didn't out him in the actual book. I think it's very cool either way.
I can also see the pov that if she had done it in the book, it would have caused a **** storm like we have never seen--worse than tractors running over Dixie Chicks CDs. Now, that **** storm might have been a powerful event, but ultimately, this way these books will be read forever and it will always be on record that Dumbledore is gay. And, thus, people will always have to contend with this upon hearing this news.
That's how I see it.

I'm going to plant this in your brain while you read HP to D2
on 7/31/07 @ 11:17:04 PM
I'm almost certain that Dumbledore is gay. There's no doubt in my mind.
There's your proof, Joe. It's a PM I sent.

I have NEVER met Cheyenne Jackson. I have never hung out with him in his dressing room, he did not tweet me, he never bought me a beverage, and he mostly certainly didn't tickle me. . .that is all.

I KNEW I saw Dumbledore at the Mineshaft once!
Of course he was in a harness at the time, so I wasn't TOTALLY sure, but...

What do you mean she didn't tell us in the books?
As early as page 51 of the Sorcerer's Stone she clearly states:
"He (Harry) pulled out the letter and read: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore"
I think that's pretty cut and dry.

Now that we know he was gay, I want details of what he did with the invisibility cloak for all those years.
....but the world goes 'round

Taz we both know: he was lurking in the Quidditch team's locker room.

Now we know where he was going when he wasn't at Hogwarts.
((Hitting up Splash on musical mondays!!!))
Seriously though, I think it's just another little thing that would have politicized the book a bit (like talking about American wizards). I think it was just never a big deal to her, a character detail that was in the back of her mind that she finally got to reveal. It really makes Grindelwald and Dumbledore's relationship make a lot more sense, too.
I think Dumbledore was the sort of guy who, for all his talk about love, probably didn't maintain a whole lot of very close relationships. He probably wasn't going to singles nights or anything. Grindelwald, McGonnigal, Snape, and Harry were probably his most significant ones.

Every character should have a "backstory."
I'm glad she thought it through with such detail.
...even if we don't get all the "details" as readers.
That's as it should be.

I heard this yesterday.
Not surprised, really. I figured one character at least would have to have been gay, and Dumbledore was as likely a candidate as any.

I had him. Caught him looking in the Mirror of Erised and saw myself in the reflection. At that point, I knew exactly how to ace my NEWTs.
