I would watch Patrick Wilson go home with a freakin' Oompa Loompa if that's what it took. Sign me up!

I totally agree with you in your assessment of Saw I. I had to rewatch The Princess Bride to remind myself why I used to like Cary Elwes (his acting was truly awful, but it was never really anything to laud). I truly enjoy watching Michael Emerson in anything he does (and he does crazy killer very well...and frequently), but he was so underused here. The premise had a lot of potential but I think it tried to be more than it really was, and put in a "think" message where it didn't pan out. Not to mention the gaping plotholes and loose ends.
I may actually re-watch Saw today and listen to the director's commentary. Have you listened to it yet? Anything of interest? (I always find the director's commentary and featurette to be the best parts of a DVD. Screw the outtakes.)
Haven't seen Saw II yet. Couldn't get any friends to go with me. Will have to rent it and discuss. (Were you the one who PMed me a while ago regarding it?)
PS. I forgot to ask, 86, were the two guys actually likeable in the movie? From the reviews, it almost seems like two American Pie-bred horndogs whom I would almost want to be tortured.
PPS. Beacon, good idea!
Tiff-
I agree about the ending of "Saw". When Jigsaw stands up, they recap the whole movie in fast motion, with the message blaring over it, and it mean NOTHING.
One thing about "Hostel" that really surprised me was that, while the male leads started as a couple of shallow boobs, I really started to like, and identify with, them. Later on, when they were fighting for their lives, I actually cared.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Eli Roth is going to be a big force in the horror genre. He knows what he's doing.
Well, of course you identified with male leads relating to shallow boobs - Paris Hilton was your avatar once!
What did you think of Cabin Fever? Never saw it, but the TV spots and trailers looked pretty good.
Well, I identified with them because they were college grads who were going from hostel to hostel, looking for a good time. Guys do it all the time. That doesn't mean that I would wish the pain that the characters eventually experience on them. Or anyone, for that matter.
"Cabin Fever" was okay. Some enjoyable, over-the-top moments, but it was very uneven. I gave him credit, however, for trying something that outrageous in his debut film. I knew he had potential.

Christ! That's one movie I'm skipping! Saw 2 was enough creppy gore to last me a lifetime.
arg I still haven't seen it yet! I HAVE to see this
What's this about HOSTEL being inspired by true events? As a frequent hosteller, that freaks me out.

Here's the new movie poster for "Hard Candy'(the film that was part of the previews before "Hostel").
It's actually very clever. Is Hayley the unsuspecting victim...or the bait for Jeff?
It should provoke some strong reaction when it's hanging in the lobby of movie theaters.

That's a great poster! Very ambiguous and provocative, just as you said. When is it released?
BlueWiz, I think it's more the paying a company for you to kill people as sport that's inspired by "true" events, more so than using a hostel environment to lure unsuspecting prey.

I'm seeing Poor Mister Wilson in the Spring in "Barefoot in the Park" before "Hard Candy" is released...
then his film "Little Children" (where he's married to Jennifer Connnelly and has an affair with Kate Winslet) will be out in the Fall.
2006 will be FULL of Mister Wilson.
HOOOOORAY!

He and Jennifer Connelly would be a smashingly good looking couple. Leave Paul Bettany for me! Is he nekkid in any of them?

Kate Winslet made some comments in some interviews about being intimidated by some of the more "intimate" scenes between her and Patrick's characters...
and in the book there is at least one torrid interlude between Patrick and Jennifer's characters...
