If you buy the new 40th Anniversary Edition it includes this Biography on the Special Features about the real Maria, and you can easily see what was real and what wasn't.
At any rate, I like it how it is and don't mind that the story is altered!

You should see the lies they told about Ado Annie. She was a girl that said "No" and because she said "No" they smeared her as a woman with a loose reputation.
Apparently the lonely goatherd is still alive and living in Berlin now. He's very old, and telling all kinds of CRAZY stories in bars about how he wasn't so lonely, after all.
I would expect a tell-all book within the year. His meds are pretty expensive.

Well, yeah...cause Freidrich was around keeping him company.
Kurt was "tending" the goats.
Who could be lonely with a hill full of goats to yodelayee-yodelayee-yodelay-hee-hoo whenever his heart desired?
"Lusty and clear from the goatherd's throat-heard..."
(Okay, I'm paraphrasing here, but I think we all know what they were REALLY talking about.)
..and what was the Captain's "signal?"
Let's just say it involved more than just a dog whistle.
...or a harmonica.
And let's not even start with the symbolism behind the "gazebo."
"WHEEEEEEEEE!"
Mmm-hmmm. Exactly.
It's a wonder anyone got sleep if that was Liesle's "happy" sound!
That was the real reason for taking down those curtains in Maria's room.
She needed some serious sound-proofing put in just to get a good night's sleep.

Nobody has mentioned "Uncle" Max. Why was he always hanging around? Did he know some huge secret about Captain von Trapp from his sea-faring days?

Was he Uncle Max or 'Uncle' Max?
Oh, he had hand-quotes written all over him.
I'm surprised they didn't just call him "Aunt Max" and get it over with.
all I know is he was "veddy, veddy, funny!"
If I'm not mistaken, I think the real Maria opened a hotel in Vermont (the von Trapp family lodge)? Go to www.trappfamily.com
Yep. It's still there... minus Maria.
I smell a SEQUEL. "The American Years!"
Oh, I thought Maria was still behind the front desk.
There is a new generation of those f*cking Von Trapp kids touring the country, I believe.
"Oh, I thought Maria was still behind the front desk."
She is... but she don't answer much. Funny how they got the eyes so lifelike.
EDIT: doodlenyc---Yes, the Von Trapp spawns showed up at the Hollywood Bowl last year and led the masses in "Edelweiss." Saw it on the TV.
b12b, you are too funny!!!
