How I Paid for College : A Novel of Sex, Theft, Friendship & Musical Theater

I just finished this book last night. If you're looking for a light-hearted, rollickingly good read...this is the book. I never laughed out loud reading a book, but this had me doing that on the subway. Marc Acito's writing is a breath of fresh air. This is the type of book you will be telling all your friends about...like I am. If you haven't read this yet...run, Don't walk, and get it. NOW !!!

Perhaps a new book club thread??

I read it a month ago (I'm so cutting edge trendy!) and think I recommended it when we were in book club decision discussion as a light read after I, Lucifer. It's a fun, cute read.

Why doesn't that surprise me Addy that we're reading the same book at the same time????

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this book. Like you Boobs, I found myself laughing out loud. In fact, once I even did one of those cappucino coming out of your nose laughs. This book needs to be a hit because it's all about us. Acito calls us "the Play People" and it's true. We were the ones who danced down the halls singing show tunes in high school and today line up for hours to see Idina Menzel. Yet, at its core, it's a story about friendship and single-mindedly pursuring your goals (and who among us can't relate to that?). I've decided that all of my friends are getting this book for Xmas.

BTW: here's a link to the author's website which includes a really cool animated excerpt.

Okay, there is no WAY I would have dared "dance down the hall singing show tunes" in high school.

Because you value your life, Rath?

Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

Thanks, Addie.

I'm having trouble posting the link to his website

www.marcacito.com

Check out the Q&A section..it mentions the movie deal (thanks Somms) and how the book came to be. I love this guy and I'm glad I get to play catch up on his writing career.

p.s. i don't think i ever danced down the hallways...but my friends and i did have many many "theatery" moments, which could basically be anything...with an emphasis on not caring what anybody thought of us. Updated On: 10/20/04 at 11:39 AM
