Do you look your age?
I'm 23 and I look about...17. Last semester I was working in a 5th grade classroom. The first day I was there, a student asked me if I was the 'new 5th grader.'
This year I had 1st graders. Thankfully, none of them asked if I was the 'new 1st grader.' They did come up with some interesting guesses on my age though...from 12 to 48.
My friend also looks very young for her age. She doesn't smoke but she was going to buy cigarettes to see if she was going to be carded. They asked for her ID, they looked at her, then at the card, then looked back at her and asked her when her birthday was. She told them her birthday and stated that she was 24.
They sold her the cigarettes.
So, do you look your age? Younger? Older?

I find that it depends on how I dress, who I'm with and how I act.
I'm a teacher too, and some of my students think I'm 35, and some of them think i'm 23. For the record, i'm 30.
I think I can look as young as mid 20's if I dress for it, and late 30's on my worst days.

I don't think there's a standard look for any certain age. These days, no one seems to look their age-everyone looks younger, save for a very few exceptions.
it was only a few years ago that I was sent on a commercial audition to play the part of a pregnant woman!

Posted: 4/13/08 at 10:13pmyeah Jane that's true....there are some very very old looking teenagers out there. and some really young lookin 30somethings. that's why those posters in the corner stores about how "it doesnt matter how old you look you should still get carded" are a good idea.

I'm 23. I think I look... 23-ish. Maybe younger.
Last week, after finding out my age a woman said she was "shocked", that I look "like a woman", and that she thought I was "at least 26... at LEAST".
I was actually kind of offended. I guess I've gotten to the point where I'd rather look younger than older. I wondered when this day would come.

Posted: 4/13/08 at 10:17pmI almost fell on the floor when I was trying to buy cough medicine and the cashier asked to see my ID. What, are you kidding? I asked her. Then I found out that anyone who wants to buy cough medicine has to show ID. I still don't know why. I didn't show her, and I didn't buy it.

Jane- they are supposed to card for cough medicine now because people/teens are using it to get high....or something. It's like the spray paint stage a couple years ago where kids were getting high on it. And for a while, they were carding people to buy spray paint.
You didn't buy the cough medicine (which I assume you needed), because she carded you?

Teenagers use cough medicine to get high.
A few years ago, I was in Times Sq with some of my recent graduates, and one of those comedy club guys came up to us and asked if we wanted to go to his comedy club.
I asked him if there was an age minimum since the kids were under 21. He was like "you have to be at least 16" I said to him "do you need an ID to get in?" and He said "Trust me, NO ONE will think that YOU are under 16."
I had a shocked look on my face and I said "Well gee I hope no one thinks I'm under 16, I'm a high school teacher for goodness sake. I was asking because these guys are under 21." And he was like "ohh.....sorry...." And he turned and walked away without offering us the passes.

Posted: 4/13/08 at 10:40pmJane, certain over the counter cold medicines can me used as ingredients for home Meth Labs. In recent years these items have been moved to behind the counter and I.D.s are required to by them in an attempt to stop manufacture of Crystal Meth.

cough syrup contains DXM, which acts as a hallucinogen at high enough levels and that teenagers use it as a legal way to get high.

Thanks SNAFU and Sweet Q. I didn't know that. And yes, Sweet Q, I didn't buy the medicine because I didn't feel like showing my ID.I just remembered-besides s howing ID, she had this notebook in which I was going to have to fill out a bunch of info-like sign my name, address, phone, etc. I definitely wasn't about to do any of that.

I'm 18, and people have said that I look from 12 to 16.

There are so many people that look old for their age, or young for their age.
