2:30 actually really broke my heart.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

I had the same reaction, Borstal, when I first saw it on Kimmel a few nights ago.

I just wanted to hug that girl!

Sorry, I don't see where making your kids hysterical has any comical value. Oh, right -- but at least some of them got on tv.

It's just cruel. (and we wonder why so many kids find bullying behavior acceptable)

Yes, I know the adults know its a joke, but 4 year olds don't.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Then I saw this - this young girl is going to need some therapy after this prank by her mom. What is wrong with people?

I really hate these. I guess I just don't like pranks.

Well I still think some of the reactions when they find out it was a joke are pretty damn funny.

Add me to the list of those who just don't get this or find the humor. I really don’t understand what kind of sensibility is missing that would allow a parent to violate their kids trust for their own (or Jimmy Kimmel’s) amusement and for 10 seconds of internet play. I do think this kind of behavior is indicative of much larger issues attendant to the fact that, with today’s technology, everyone is (or can be) the star of their own reality show, and that seems to sometimes trump good old common sense and decency.

Yeesh, it's about Halloween candy! The humor comes from these kids ridiculous overreactions to their Halloween candy getting eaten. You see how quickly they switch to amusement once they see it's a prank. They see how silly they were being and can kind of laugh at themselves for a bit. I think it's hilarious and kinda sweet.

Sorry but the whole idea of this is SICK.

To think you are being funny by temporarily destroying a child's trust in their parents, however brief, is frightening to them. Extremely frightening.

Just watching it breaks my heart.

Yeesh, are you aware at how important Halloween candy is to a child? I think not. Overreactions? Um, no, these little kids are not auditioning. Their severe reactions show how important the candy is, and how hurt they are by the news that their parents betrayed them.

If you think this is funny and sweet, be sure and do it to your kids, if and when you have them!

"Yeesh, are you aware at how important Halloween candy is to a child?"

I guess I don't think it should be that important. I think the bit highlights the faux outrages children often throw. It's candy. As the old saying goes, "Children are starving in Africa."

When the kid gets told whats up, we see the life or death response quickly abate. I think bringing ideas of "betrayal of trust" into the discussion are a little heavy handed, but, here we are on broadwayworld.

I don't think this will traumatize kids. But I can't see myself doing this. I just don't think it's funny to see little ones cry.
I think the one with the spider is more upsetting. Not so much because it will traumatize the girl. But because it says a lot about that mother the way she kept dragging that VERY young, reluctant girl over against her will just so mama could get a laugh and be on the interwebs.

I don't think it's about the candy, per se. Most kids get sweets year-round. But Halloween candy is about the holiday, one of the three big events when I was a kid--birthday, Halloween, Christmas. It would be akin to saying "We gave away your birthday presents." Sure, they probably have a roomful of toys, but that isn't the point.

But as I said, I don't like pranks in general.

"I guess I don't think it should be that important."

But it IS, to the children. That's a fact.

"When the kid gets told whats up, we see the life or death response quickly abate."

Well of course!

Anyway, you and I see this very differently. As Reggie said, it's really not about the candy, per se. It's about something important seemingly taken away from you by your own parents.

Bratty loud kids are just not amusing, neither are the pranking parents.
