being able to have really weird crushes without it being abnormal
Soprano, I know what you mean haha I've had too many of them to count

Posted: 2/3/09 at 12:55pmHaha! Yes, I think it comes with the territory... of, you know, being a girl.

I concur! I also think it's cool to be able to have girl crushes without people getting stupid about it. It's not usually even sexual. It's just I think a chick is really really cool or really talented and I'm taken by that.
And yes...accents kill me. I went to Europe when I was 17 and our guide for the whole two weeks was this 25 year old Irish guy named Colin Murphy (go figure). I was in luuuuuurrrrrrve with him by the end of the trip. I think all the girls were. haha

Posted: 2/3/09 at 1:35pmI MELT over accents. British, Scottish, Australian, French...mmmm.

Posted: 2/3/09 at 1:49pmI used to have this friend who's live in boyfriend was from Portugal. I could listen to him talk all day.

Ah, I was at a club on Saturday and met this Brazilian man who had the most dreamy accent. He was way too short for me so I had to write him off (I have a big height issue), but I kept him around most of the night just to listen to him talk.
Regarding weird crushes...I don't think a single one of mine is normal. So embarrassing.

Awww, I love Jeffrey Dean Morgan. He's just perfect for those days when you can't decide whether to lust over Robert Downey Jr or Javier Bardem. :3 :3 :3
I can't think of any accents that especially do it for me, actually. I'll have to report back to you. I guess being surrounded by English accents day after day after day means there's no real mystique or exoticism involved in 'em for me.

Posted: 2/3/09 at 2:42pmI love pretty much all accents too, especially Irish and Mediterranean. I'm melting in my seat just thinking about them.

Oh, blondebaby, Mediterranean accents are my favorite. I LOVE Greek men. LOVE. This may or may not have to do with how well-endowed they are...so I'm told.

For some reason, English/Scottish/Irish/Australian/New Zealand-ish accents definitely attract me (especially the sort of English accent that Matthew Lewis from Harry Potter has... that is my favorite accent), but other accents just... don't. At all. Well, other than the boring ordinary east-coast American accent I've got.
My friend's boyfriend had this wonderful English accent, and it took me almost a year to realize that he WASN'T abnormally intelligent, the accent just made him sound that way. He'd say something like, "Yes, Doritos are the greatest food in the world," and it would sound like some brilliant intellectual discovery.

Hahahaa so true Schmerg. People with accents can say pretty much anything and make it sound like something only a genius could come up with.

Yes and the inverse is true, too. Like Jeff Foxworthy said, you could be the smartest, most successful brain surgeon in the world, but if you come out to talk to the patient and have that really deep southern accent, like Foxworthy's, they're going to seriously question letting you slice into their skull. Not saying I don't really like some southern accents, too, but I think he had a point. It's really funnier when you hear him say that, though.

Weez- EXACTLY! I'll take all three though. :)

Concur, completely. I think every straight person has crushes on people of their own gender. Girls know that thinking a girl is awesome (or even thinking a girl is hot) is totally okay and isn't an indication of your sexuality, necessarily.
As for accents ... I'm not partial to any particular accent. But Schmerg and Jeff Foxworthy were right. It's so easy to make assumptions about people's intelligence based on the way they speak.

Posted: 2/3/09 at 8:10pmI'm straight and I have a HUGE girl crush on Kate Winslet, I love her!

Oh, sure. I get girl crushes frequently, and there's nothing weird about that.
ALSO in the realm of "I enjoy being a girl" pertaining to attractions -- there aren't age limits for girls (in terms of fantasy crushes and such, not in terms of the law)! Seriously. Guys are "expected" to always be attracted to the young hot things, and anything beyond that is "weird." It's different (and better) for us. I know a good many girls my age with crushes on Alan Rickman, who's almost 63. Heck, Brian Stokes Mitchell is my biggest theatre crush ever, and he's over 50.
We literally have DECADES worth of men that it's not weird for us to find attractive.
More things I enjoy about being a girl:
-- We can be sort of wimpy. I'm almost 18 and I don't drive, because I'm afraid to drive. I "know myself" and I'm being "responsible." If I were a guy ... I think I'd be kind of wimpy. I'm also allowed to scream when I see a mouse. Which I have done. Multiple times.
-- When we cry, we get hugs. And "honey what's the matter?" Sympathy is much easier to come by.
-- We can shamelessly name our future children. From the time we're four years old. It's a totally acceptable hobby.

Hahah, toooo true. That's been a hobby of mine since forever. I totally started a thread awhile back about Broadway-related names posters would give their kids!
But Schmerg and Jeff Foxworthy were right.
I love that wording. Makes it sound like Jeffy and I are buds who hang around and chat all the time.

Posted: 2/3/09 at 9:31pmMaisie, I know how you feel about having an accent to an extent. Philly accents can be very obnoxious on stage haha unless it's a character choice. It's nothing like having a southern drawl, but I still chose to go to a vocal coach to round out my vowels.

OMG, I'm LMAO re: naming kids.
I'm 42, and having no more children, yet I still think about what I would name another one if I were to have one.

I always think about names! I used to have a baby name book when I was little, because I used it in my writing. I just thought/think that names are extremely important. They can really help develop a character. You're probably not going to name your main character Bertha if you're trying to portray as a hot young chick. Ya know... :)
I'm all mad now, because my favorite girl name (which is Ava, at the moment) is becoming really popular. I'm not going to have kids for a while (I think) so it doesn't even matter! Haha
