You guys are awesome.

I decided to ask what's up, but my nervousness got to me so I did it via email (lame I know)...
I ended up saying that I have been wondering how he really feels and that I have reached the point where I want to know the truth because he is a good guy and I like being around him.

I have no idea what's going to happen, but I feel like this was the right thing to do.

Good for you, Withoutlove! Don't worry so much about asking him through an e-mail, it's the 21st century! That seems to be how everyone communicates these days (like us, for example). I think you're doing the right thing by asking him what's going on. It's very possible that he's just as confused as you are.

STOCKARD I LOVE YOU TOO!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Danmag and Stock, I know you're both right. I'll just have to avoid the situation all together and wait for these "feelings" to dissipate.

Kels, you might just have to say to him, exactly what you said in your post. "Hey, I think you're really sweet and I like you as more than a friend." Just do your best to reassure him that either way you'd still like to be his friend. Like if he gets that wierded out look that most guys get after receiving such news, just ask him to do something you guys normally do as friends like grab some burgers to put him at ease and show him that nothing has to change unless he wants it to. Men are always hungry right? Just distract him with food if it gets too awkward. Does that even remotely make sense? Am I so far out of the loop in hetero-land that I know nothing about the opposite sex....at all? Or you could always do what I do. Muck it up briefly with my overly cynical/sarcastic witticism then make another quip, smooth it over by batting my eyelashes and returning to my lovely charming self. TaDah.

SAMN, dude?! Going the soiled undies route just makes them develop a crazy panty fetish that no doubt leads to murder sprees at college sororities. I'd go with the un-soiled bloomers, just to say "Hey not only am I giving you my panties for your spank bank but I also use apple scented Gain detergent. MMMMMM my number's at the bottom." No pun intended. happiness :D

EDIT: Kels, seeing as how you've already taken a step in the right direction, disregard my insane advice.

Jazzy, I'm with Stock. I LOVE YOU TOO!!!! It makes me feel a bit better knowing someone else has kind of the same thing going on. I know it's going to be tough but I'm gonna have to cut the cord slowly but surely. She's still new here so leaving her high and dry is going to feel horrible but for my own sanity I'll have to suck it up. Oh and you comparing her to a cookie and talking about eating cookies is f*cking priceless!!!! You do know that "cookie" is a euphemism for vagina right?! Saying cookie to a lesbian is like saying hot Italian sausage to a gay man....dirty, naughty thoughts ensue that have absolutely nothing to do with food. LOL!!!!!

So, update - He has responded to my email yet, but he sent me a txt saying that he was at this conference up at the college and asking me where I was... I told him I was at home and that I had to work later. The txt was quite random because we had never talked about the conference... we went to a similar one a couple of years together in Boston, but still, we never talked about this one. I am trying to not have a crazy girl moment, lol!

Also there is snow on the ground here and I have no idea what to wear :-P

Auuughh, Jazzy and Tofu, it is SO frustrating to like someone who can't like you back.

This is totally different from that, but it reminded me... I have this darling sophomore friend who is like a sparkly little elf or something... he is unbelievably feminine and he FLOUNCES when he walks, and he just has the cutest, friendliest personality and is so hilarious and fun all the time. I hang around with him all the time because he's one of my favorite people ever. But this guy INSISTS that he's straight and is always saying things like, "Well, if I was gay..." in this lilting, girly voice of his.

I am 99 percent sure that he is gay, but if he IS straight, I don't want him to think that I have a crush on him or anything. Because I ALWAYS flirt incessantly with gay guys, just because I know it's 'safe.' And I want to bring him with me to prom if things aren't going smoothly with the guy I like, but he has so many gay friends and seems so self-confident accepting of gay issues in general that I'm starting to wonder why he hasn't come out of the closet if he IS gay. So now I'm kind of starting to worry that he's straight!

On what occasion would a straight teenage boy say "Well, if I were gay......" I can't even imagine....LOL

Just talk alot about the boy you do like so that if on the off chance that is is straight he knows you like someone else and won't think you have a crush on him.

Hahaha, that's a good plan. I feel self-conscious about talking about the guy I like, since I feel like no one wants to hear that kind of story and it just makes me come off as a stupid teeny bopper, but since my convos with that guy generally revolve around extremely surreal stories about pterodactyls and unicorns and mermaids and Vampire Quasimodo seducing young maidens, that's the least of my problems...

Oh my gosh, yes, I love him! He's my class' administrator, and every time I see him, he tries to recruit me to become a teacher for some reason. And today during the homecoming assembly, he came onstage with the male drill team wearing a wig, a leopard print muumuu, and white gloves and started dancing and shaking his butt! It was shocking and hilarious...

On what occasion would a straight teenage boy say "Well, if I were gay......" I can't even imagine....LOL

I can think of one. If he were an especially savvy teenage boy who had noticed that a lot of teenage girls tend to be ALL OVER gay guys.

However, boys just ain't that savvy. You'd think more would've noticed that joining a drama group is a surefire way to be surrounded by a lot of pretty ladies, but they still haven't worked that one out, and I'm beginning to approach 30. So teenage boys who don't have the security or wisdom of maturity are NEVER going to figure out that acting gay is a great way to get girls.

Their loss. ^_^

So, I'm watching The West Wing still, and Will keeps making eyes at all the blonde girls, which is beginning to freak me out, but as long as he keeps his paws off my beloved Donna, I guess I can let it slide. Anyway!

Hi. happiness :D

The West Wing is great!

Schmerg, I loved Mr. Griffen too! He was my administrator when I was teaching there (until the last year and then that tall skinny lady I can't remember her name became my admin. I didn't like her nearly as much. Mr. G used to help chaperone my fashion field trip to NYC too.

Oh my god, tofu! Where have you been hiding all of my life? Now that you've said that, I'm rereading my entire post replacing cookie with vagina. Oddly enough, this is the sentence that's making me laugh the most.

It looks so appetizing, you can smell it from across the room, and you're TOTALLY ready to chow down and eat it.

Epic!

Schmerg, give your friend a little bit of time. As crazy as this sounds, he may not even realize that he's gay yet. I kinda knew when I was in the 7th grade, but I was totally in denial about it until my freshman year of High School. I may not be out, but it's pretty obvious! I'm slightly feminine (not EXTREMELY feminine, but I'm no Hulk Hogan...), I'm a horrendous athlete, and I do things like choir, orchestra, and musical theatre. The kids in middle school used to make fun of me all the time to the point where it was almost sexual harassment, and when I was being made fun of (despite being raised to think differently), I instantly associated homosexuality with being a bad thing. It was a lot of pressure. Kids were making fun of me, my parents were always asking me why I never had a girlfriend or told them about pretty girls at my school. I just thought it would be easier to tell myself that I was straight and not let myself be attracted to any guys. Your friend might be feeling the exact same way, and it could be years he wakes up one day and says "Ya know what, I'm gay. It is what it is.". That's LITEREALLY what I did. I woke up one day and realized that I was completely in denial. Deep down inside I TOTALLY knew that I liked boys and not girls, but I wanted to be straight and not gay because it was easier, and I realized that I need to embrace who I am instead of hiding from the real me.
There's also the possibility that he's really scared to tell other people that he's gay. Trust me... it's horrifying. I've only told 3 people (3 REAL people, of course!) and it was really scary... and one of the people I told IS OPENLY GAY and I was STILL terrified. I was facing a lot of things:
1) They would never talk to me again.
2) They would tell a whole bunch of other people
3) They would make fun of me
4) They would see me as a different person
...and those were just A FEW of the things I was worried about. It was hard for me to tell MYSELF that I'm gay, and the idea of telling other people seems even worse. Your friend might be really scared, and the best thing you can do is to make it clear to him that you love him (as a friend) and you will continue being his friend no matter what. Even then... it's still scary! Trust me, I've been on the other side.

Now, I'm going to start telling more of my friends... but I'm not in a hurry. I won't plan a date to tell them, and I won't randomly approach them and say "HEY! Guess what... I'm TOTALLY gay. Bye!". I'll tell them when it feels like the right time to say it. My biggest obstacle is being in an extremely conservative area. My friends have 3 different beliefs:

1) Being gay is not a choice.
2) God doesn't make people gay, but nobody is perfect and everyone (no matter what sexual orientation they are) deserves to be loved equally.
3) Homosexuals are a bunch no good sinners who will burn in a fire and should be seen as an ugly abomination to the lord.

I'm comfortable with the first 2, but the last one... yikes. Since I'm so curious is to each and everyone of my friends beliefs on homosexuality, I decided to make my middle name 'Equality' on FaceBook... just to see how they'd react to my supporting of gay rights and to see if it would get them to talk about how they view homosexuality. It's been really helpful, actually.

Stockard, you just reminded me of this gem.

Jazzy, I'm sure when the time is right you will know and you can tell your family and friends that you are gay. Don't rush it, but don't put it off for the sake of putting it off.
