Lace, I'm sorry things were so frustrating. Her feelings & her situation are something you can't control & so you're right to try let it go, even if it's rough. Here's a big hug & some ice cream from me :0)

Strummer, where do you live?? Are you sure you'll still have it?

They've already cancelled classes tomorrow ^_^ that's one more Pro for college.

lucious, I feel your pain. It's totally unfair to be led on like that, but the world will keep turning and life goes on. It's ok. :)

I just had auditions today for The Man Who Came to Dinner. I'm going for Maggie and Harriet. I'm exhausted and I want to sleep even though it's only 7pm. Blahh.

"You have two kinds of shows on Broadway – revivals and the same kind of musicals over and over again, all spectacles. You get your tickets for The Lion King a year in advance, and essentially a family... pass on to their children the idea that that's what the theater is – a spectacular musical you see once a year, a stage version of a movie. It has nothing to do with theater at all. It has to do with seeing what is familiar.... I don't think the theatre will die per se, but it's never going to be what it was.... It's a tourist attraction." Stephen Sondheim

Lace, keep you head up girl! You are handling this better then I would.... being led on is the worst happiness :D

I went out to a Blues Jam and sang up a storm last night! it was awesome! I have been going to this Jam since I was 16 and now I am starting to become one of the regulars- meaning I get to do the set right after the main band! I felt really good about my set last night, but now I need to learn so new songs!

I should be redoing my History assignment right now but I can't get any work done tonight to save my life! I blame the fact that I am going to a party on Friday and my guy might be making an appearance! And he said if he does make it out he would be happy to give me a ride home :-p

Star, I live in Schenectady, NY. We are expecting 3-6 inches and are under a winter weather advisory. I will believe it when the driving school calls me to cancel.

Oh and the decisions about the study abroad program is going to be revealed any day now. Did I mention I never use my mailbox at all and do not even remember my PO Box and combination. So I am hung up on stress today and for some reason I am lacking my usual stamina working out.

Oh! Speaking of study abroad, my passport finally came in after about a month & my payments are all done.
MEANING I am all squared away for my travel course to Trinidad & Tobago over spring break.

Sorry LL...happiness :D

Hope all you East Coasters are enjoying yet another snow day. Sigh.

I can't wait for spring break. We are going to Boston this weekend with the kids - my nephew is the assistant basketball coach at BU and we are going to go to a game and take in all the snowy sites.

We got snow yesterday...about 9 inches. Not too bad, but you would think the news media never saw snow in Chicago in February.

Meanwhile, my nephew is thrilled because today is his 14th bday and school was cancelled...even though streets are clean and it stopped snowing at like 3 am.

Yeah, I'm loving it! They haven't canceled anything at my university so far (I guess Ohio is supposed to be well-prepared or some crap, despite two feet and lots of wind), but if it has to be cold, at least it's pretty too.

Okay, I hate to do this, but I know there are a few moms in this thread and I was hoping you guys could help me out for a big project I'm working on for Nestle. It would be great if you could answer these questions really quickly for me, no need to go into detail, just a sentence or two is enough:

1) Do you value nutrition and/or health and/or wellness and in what ways?
2) When grocery shopping what nutrition claims do you most pay attention to i.e. fat, calories, sodium etc.?
3) How often do you cook dinner versus eating a pre-made microwavable or heated meal?
4) How important is eating as a family to you?
5) How much influence do your kids have on your grocery purchases?

I won't be mad if you ladies don't want to answer, just throwing it out there! Thanks!

I am not sure whether to put this in the 'Oh, Shut Up' thread or here but I am so angry right now I do not really care:

It is really rude to jump to conclusions that I did not drive since you gave me lessons. How about I just do not know how to exactly approach driving in half-assed 'clear' roads after snowfall?

If you did not think I was ready, you could have just dropped me off to not waste the rest of my time. Keep in mind I drove with her for a good hour when she declared this about 10 minutes in but yet I heard seldom critiques after that.

You could have at least told me there was another kid who would have his little tune-up and road test for the sixth time today. He somehow passed btw.

You psyched me out so much making me feel so imperfect as a driver on top of waiting over 90 minutes since I drove and expect me to feel like I am ready or confident?

You want me to wait until March for my next road test? With you? Screw you, lady. You have been condescending and snarky to me before and though I am a firm believer of good cop-bad cop, I refuse to have you present at my next road test let alone have it be with that judge.

Oh yeah, Mr. George, you expect me to take it well that I failed not even really driving the car, waiting nearly 3 hours to even get to take the test, and feel ashamed that I failed for doing something that would have not have been noticed if I just stopped the car with more authority, or better yet beat you to the pedal? You and your out of place colloquial candor can shove it if you think you would have reacted differently to getting back your learners' permit and 5 hour course receipt if you were in my shoes. Don't play Atticus Finch with me! All I did was grab my stuff back in disappointment and you act like I sucker punched you and proceeded to lecture me like a 5 year old.

So yeah I am pretty pissed off right now. I know plenty people have done it the first time but failing the way I did was just too embarrassing on top of I got a load of work to do for school that, if Mrs. Snarky truly went on her instincts and just take me back to my building, would have been done sooner.

For jag:

1. I value all three. I love healthy foods, but the problem is we love junk food just as much!

2. Since I follow Weight Watchers I read fat, fiber and calories

3. I cook dinner around 4 times a week.

4. It used to be very important.Every night. Now it's when work and social schedules have us home at the same time. Then we always eat together.

5. When she was little I was a sucker for any of that stuff she wanted. Spongebob waffles or Little Mermaid cereal. Yeah, she was a big influence.

clever, thank you so much! That's exactly the kind of info I need. I really appreciate it.

strummer, I'm so sorry it was such a bad experience! If it helps any, the lady driving the first time with me (I also failed) was a huge c-u-n-t as well. I think it's a requirement. When I hit one cone while parking, she casually mentioned that "wow, that would have been a person in real life. How unfortunate." Keep venting, girl. And go to a different place next time (which is what I did).

1) Do you value nutrition and/or health and/or wellness and in what ways?
I do value it, but I'm not always great about pursuing it.

2) When grocery shopping what nutrition claims do you most pay attention to i.e. fat, calories, sodium etc.?

I pay attention to fat, sodium, sugar count and calories.

3) How often do you cook dinner versus eating a pre-made microwavable or heated meal?

I cook much more often. I cook 4 or 5 times a week.

4) How important is eating as a family to you?

I don't live with my family, so I don't get to do that. But I think that for families with young children it's very important.

5) How much influence do your kids have on your grocery purchases?

I don't have kids. :)

1) Do you value nutrition and/or health and/or wellness and in what ways?

Yes, I value all 3. I try to cool healthy meals and we all try to get as much exercise as possible. My son probably eats too many chicken nuggets though, but he's a skinny rail.

2) When grocery shopping what nutrition claims do you most pay attention to i.e. fat, calories, sodium etc.?

Fat and calories

3) How often do you cook dinner versus eating a pre-made microwavable or heated meal?

I cook dinner at least 6 nights a week. One night we order pizza.

4) How important is eating as a family to you?

We eat dinner together every night.

5) How much influence do your kids have on your grocery purchases?

Well, I know I shouldn't do this, but he rarely eats what we eat so I have to buy his special chicken nuggets etc. Plus his school lunches.

1) Do you value nutrition and/or health and/or wellness and in what ways?
I try to value all of the above but nutrition is usually the first to fall when it comes to college cuisine.

2) When grocery shopping what nutrition claims do you most pay attention to i.e. fat, calories, sodium etc.?
Fat

3) How often do you cook dinner versus eating a pre-made microwavable or heated meal?
Dial seven digits on the phone or head to the dining hall.

4) How important is eating as a family to you?
Considered all the more precious considering everybody is so busy.

5) How much influence do your kids have on your grocery purchases?
Have none............... that I know about.

1) Do you value nutrition and/or health and/or wellness and in what ways?
I value nutrition in theory, but am bad about putting it in practice...I am pretty addicted to foods that are bad for me, but just try not to eat too much of them.

2) When grocery shopping what nutrition claims do you most pay attention to i.e. fat, calories, sodium etc.?
Fat and calories.

3) How often do you cook dinner versus eating a pre-made microwavable or heated meal?
I cook on average about 4 days a week

4) How important is eating as a family to you?
Very important, although since my husband doesn't usually get home before 8, we don't eat dinner together during the week. We do eat breakfast together though.

5) How much influence do your kids have on your grocery purchases?
Slight. If they request something specific, I will try to pick it up. But that is usually just one thing, like a certain brand of cereal.

I'm not a mum so I shall not be answering jag's questions.

But my sister is a mum, so when she gets back, I shall make her answer 'em. :3

1) Do you value nutrition and/or health and/or wellness and in what ways?
I have to say, I don't really get the question. It seems obvious to say that I value wellness and nutrition because nobody likes being ill or run down and the food you eat plays a big part in that. As a parent I value nutrition because it helps my children grow and hopefully the foods I prepare will set them up for long and healthy lives.
2) When grocery shopping what nutrition claims do you most pay attention to i.e. fat, calories, sodium etc.?
I've recently started a low fat GI diet so I pay attention to fat and calories. Because I cook from scratch most of the ingredients I buy are unseasoned so sodium isn't really an issue for me.
3) How often do you cook dinner versus eating a pre-made microwavable or heated meal?
I usually cook meals from scratch 5 or 6 nights a week. Admittedly sometimes the toddler has a scrambled egg or something but I also batch cook food for him at the weekends to avoid using pre-made toddler food. The other nights are pizza or takeaway
4) How important is eating as a family to you?
I would like to eat as a family more often but the toddler needs to eat earlier than we like to so usually 3 of us (me, husband and 10yo) eat together and he eats alone. We try to eat together at weekends though. I guess what I am saying is it is not as important to me as I would like it to be! happiness :D But as the toddler gets bigger we will be able to eat together more often.
5) How much influence do your kids have on your grocery purchases?
They influence it in as much as if they weren't eating with us we'd quite possibly live on nachos and cake happiness :D I am conscious that I want them to grow up with good eating habits so I make an effort to cook healthy meals most of the time. I don't buy a lot of snack foods in general but I do buy toddler specific fruit pouches and some convenience foods for the 10yo lunch box.

Hope that's helpful!
