I'm sure the "Let's Talk" will turn out to be nothing like a break-up talk at all.
But Addy is right. He needs to hear from you why you thought being left alone was not okay.
And you need to hear from him why he thought it was.
A great relationship book I read once talked about how relationships are not really built on the moments you have in common. Those are the easy parts: movies you both love, "You like chocolate ice cream? I like chocolate too!" vacations or decorating of activities to do together. Those are the easy parts in relationships, and they should be cultivated and nurtured and enjoyed whenever they can be shared.
But relationships ultimately hinge on how you handle it when your agendas or priorities stop coinciding, how you sail through the times when you thought you were in something together but it turns out your not. How you are with each other when you stop being able to read each other minds. That's when compassion comes into play and a deeper love can ensue.
But it's a tricky path from compassion to caring, and there's a very fine line between compassion and resentment.
I wish for you a good talk, one in which you are truly heard.
And one in which you truly listen, to him but also ti yourself,
