Back to the therapy issue. I remember a relationship therapist once saying she wished some couples would consider couples counseling at the beginning stages, before things are at a crisis, when things are going well and parameters are being established.
It made me think about my early relationships and how hurt I could be when my beloved seemed completely unwilling to read my mind and do what I so obviously emotionally needed from him and why on earth should I have to express my needs out loud when supposedly he LOVES me and it is patently obvious?!?!
We bring the sum total of who we are and who we have been to every relationship we have. And sometimes, it's probably a good idea to have a neutral party there as the details of what will make your relationship successful for YOU hammered out and as you try to express it to your beloved in a way that he can hear it. Of course, he also gets the opportunity to do the same.
