Now that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has chosen his running mate, it's time for him to concentrate on another important selection: family dog. The American Kennel Club® (AKC) announced today that the public has elected a Poodle as their breed of choice for the Obama family.
A poodle? The wussiest of dogs? And a FRENCH poodle, no doubt- a wimpy America-hating dog who will passive-aggressively pee on the carpet in the Lincoln bedroom.
Oh Barack, I'm SO disappointed.

If you think Michelle Obama is going to let that dog anywhere near the Lincoln Bedroom, you're crazier than Cindy McCain when she's off her meds.
Anyway, it's just a recommendation from an AKC online poll. With their daughters' allergies, the Wheaten would be a good choice.

Should go with a White Westie. No hair. Very cute.
Vote for him anyway....

Who was the last President to have a lab? The Clintons? Was it Buddy?
They're my favorite breed of dog, and with two children, make the perfect family dog.

Westies don't shed? I didn't know that. I could see them with a terrier.
One thing's for sure, though - there won't be any rats in the White House.

Posted: 8/29/08 at 1:18pmIncidentally, poodles are generally the best breed of dogs for people with allergies. They have a different dander that typically does not affect those with dog allergies. I used to be allergic to dogs (not any more), but I always tested negative for poodles. Weird, but true.

#13re: I'm sorry I just can't vote for Obama
Posted: 8/29/08 at 1:23pmI'm not sure about allergy wise, but one of the reasons so many designer "poodle-mix" breeds are being bred is it keeps the dog from shedding. So that would probably help the allergy as well.

Poodles are also one of the smartest breeds of dog. What about a [edit]Standard[/edit] Poodle?

That dog is just goofy looking! LOL!
I'd prefer a teacup poodle, but I like little dogs.

Poodlephobia really is a direct descendent of homophobia.
My boyfriend was once a poodlephobe, stemming no doubt from some deep place of self-loathing, until he met the standard poodle who lives down the street. And now he finds himself confronting the poodlephobia, because the dog is smart as a whip and loyal and loving as hell. Now guess who's seriously considering a standard poodle as his first dog since teeneage-hood?
He wouldn't go with one of those faggy grooming styles, but at least he's grown beyond his prejudices. I would urge others to confront those within themselves.

"they have a different dander that typically does not affect those with dog allergies. "
I wish that were true for me. I'm allergic to poodles as well as all other dogs.If I found a dog I wasn't allergic to, I'd have it!!!
And that goes for animals too

Being a dog owner (a wolf-dog actually) I must say that I have a friend with a standard poodle and it is one of the nicest animals. Intelligent, personable. Labradors are great, too. But for the White House, I'd recommend a pack of arctic wolves.
America should not allow the wholesale slaughter of wolves by sport hunters. Wolves are an important part of the ecosystem and running down a wolf from a helicopter until it collapses from exhaustion, then shooting it with a rifle is not very sportsmanlike nor humane. How many hunters would be willing to subject themselves to the same kind of treatment? It would be a very different experience if the gun were pointed the other way, wouldn't it ?

OK, son-of-a-gunn wins.
That truly is a hilarious looking dog.

"A standard poodle attacked my cousins' beagle puppy and bit a big chunk out of his ear"
That's because Beagles are the dumbest dogs around.
