Namo is absolutely right. Sing all the Jerry Herman songs you want in the elevator but never put angry words into a resignation letter.

ooohhhhhhmmmmmm

I actually didn't say anything at all angry in the letter - I simply stated exactly what she (my boss) has done to me and said to me on repeated occasions, but I stated it in a very professional manner. She has engaged in some highly unethical practices that could get a lawsuit thrown at her very easily. I choose not to sue the company - but she's even been quoted as saying derogatory things about my being Gay. There are already several lawsuits against our company pending at the moment - all involving racial discrimination - I could add to the fire but what the hell - will it make me a better person? no. Will it put money in my pocket? maybe - but what good is that.
nah - I'll just mull this over a while longer here today.

Just remember that naything you put in writing can come back to haunt you. You may be needing a job at some point soon that is not entertainment focused and you will need refrences. You will need to have left on good standing at your fromer job. If you cannot get that from your immediate supervisor, you will at least want to leave on good terms with teh HR Dircetor. Putting things like that in writing, no matter how professionally worded, could put that person in a position of having to be very guarded when a prospective employer calls asking about you.

actually I understand what you mean and I am ok with it. I initially gave the letter to the head of HR and explained it to him completely and he seems very supportive and understanding and even said I could use him as a reference - but at that time he didn't actually take the letter into his possession. He said he'll take it from me before I leave today. I want people here to know what a bad employee she is and how it is very possible that she may cause a lot more monetary loss for the company if she continues to leak high security information as she did with me.

i do have to say that the resignation letter is written in a very professional manner... nothing derogatory, nothing accusatory, just stating the reasons why he is leaving...

Anyone else dying for redhot to post this letter?!

How about 2 documents? A resignation letter with your name on it that is simply a statement of resignation, and another detailing what you would like them to know about her - without your name on it.
#109

ooohhhhhhmmmmmm

A resignation letter need say nothing more than, I resign. anything else is unneccessary. Legally, the only information that your company can give out to an inquiry is that you were employed there and from a to z dates. However, personal references (rather than an HR reference) leaves the door open for unwanted conversation. I recommend that you don't write anything about her in the letter.

What do you really care what she does or doesn't do and what happens to the company after five o'clock? You'll no longer work there.

SOMMS, that's an excellent point...

I don't think one signed and one unsigned letter makes sense at all, except in the realm of fantasy. A person doesn't have to be Nancy Drew to figure out who must have sent it.

Also, I am personally NOT dying to see the letter and hope Red can refrain from posting it.

These electronic things have a way of surfacing when we think they are PRIVATE. Just ask Fred Durst.

Namo, I would never seriously ask anyone to post anything like that on the Internet. I'm not as dumb as I look. Sometimes I'm just making a lame attempt at humor.

Is it Cracker Barrel? Those people are evil, but the food is sooooo good!

If you want help with the letter I am sure a few of the writers here would love to help. Why not post it?

Sueleen - I may be ugly but I ain't stupid....lol...nah - I'm happy with what I've got. I am reading a quote that I have posted on my desk by Anais Nin -

"Life shrinks or expands in proprotion to one's courage"

I am trying to be courageous.

A little HR humor ...

An executive was in a quandry. He had to get rid of one of his
staff. He had narrowed it down to one of two people. Debra or Jack. It would be a hard decision to make, as they were both equally qualified and both did excellent work. He finally decided that in the morning, whichever one used the water cooler first would have to go.

Debra came in the next morning with a huge hangover after partying all night. She went to the cooler to get some water to take an aspirin, when the excutive approached her and said: Debra, I've never done this before, but I have to lay you or Jack off.

Debra replied: Could you jack off? I feel like ****.

Jeez--I spend a few hours in the park with the dogs this morning and this whole thing spins out of control.

What the hell are you still doing there? Throw your knit beret in the air and leave.

SoMMS is %1,000 right. You are still too mired in the mind-f**k of being there and thinking you care what happens after you leave. Close you eyes and picture yourself in two weeks, a FORMER employee; they have no hold or power over you. You DONT CARE what happens there any more.

I think your resignation letter should be the briefest few lines possible. Nothing emotional, nothing critical, no settling scores or trying to "fix" a situation that is way beyond your powers.

RedHot, honey, you're the Best Little Boy in the World, I know, but this isn't your mess to clean up.

bta - but as I said before - he's (HR GUY) already seen the letter and wants a copy before I leave today - so he is totally aware of how my boss has been acting...
I keep thinking of this line from Into the Woods:

"...this is more than just malice. Better stop and take stock while you're standing here stuck to the steps of the palace..."
"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Glad to make you laugh handsome. If the HR guy has the information (verbally), he can use it or not as he see's fit. Putting it in writing lands it solely on your back and trust me, that won't be a good thing not matter the tone of the letter. Just Walk Away Renee!
#122

HR, HR

LOL! That line is ALWAYS stuck in my head....

O.K., carry on. I think Namo's post was quite right--you want to make sure that the letter can't be mis-construed or used against you when you're not in the room.

But, again, F**k it--hand in the letter and move on. It's not like you're looking for a job there again. Let's not over-think it.

Good luck. Leaving a crappy job with nowhere to go and no way to pay my rent was the smartest thing I ever did.

We have many choices.
