I am NOT a troll, and I would appreciate it if you would stop calling me one just because you are unable to fathom any perspective that is different to your own. Thank you.

Calling all Anglophiles! September 29 1923 Does this date mean anything to you?
No? Well, let me tell you. This was the day that Palestine became part of the British Empire. Almost exactly a century before the recent atrocities of October 7. Arguably it was this fateful day that set the ball rolling, leading to the avalanche of horror that we see now.
A new book, by Matthew Parker, looks at the Empire across the globe on this date and how it was the beginning of the end. "One Fine Day" is out now. Recommended reading. Especially for those who still blindly worship the relics of this Empire. A little education can make the world a safer place.

The only party who has committed a genocide is literally Hamas (they are very clear about their intentions), and it is absolutely disgusting to see people be sympathetic to this genocide while also accusing Israel of genocide. Although I’m concerned about the civilian casualties in Gaza, this false moral equivalency needs to stop now. How many women should the IDF rape, how many grandmothers should they kidnap, how many bodies should they dismember to ‘respond’ to the atrocities of October 7th in a ‘fair’ way? It doesn’t make sense. Hamas need to be disarmed and destroyed - unfortunately because Gaza is so densely populated it makes it hard. But Israel’s intentions are obviously not genocide. I’ve never heard of a genocide where the attacking party warns the victims to leave. I’m sure the victims of October 7th would have appreciated a warning before they were brutally raped, tortured and killed.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)

South Africa argue that even the egregious acts of Oct 7 can not be enough to justify a breach of the Genocide Convention. They say "a systematic pattern of conduct from which genocide - as set out in Article 11 - can be inferred." Relentless bombardment calculated to cause catastrophic hunger, dehydration, and disease, in addition to the 23,000 deaths already... then on top of that a blockade designed to impede the delivery of humanitarian aid... can NOT be justified, and that all human life is equal.
Warnings to evacuate only count for so much when the victims have no place to go.

One thing I have assumed of course is that Israel is being honest in its dealings. It is good that this is now in court because if Israel are sincere they should be able to provide sufficient evidence to explain their actions. If they can't or if it turns out they have not been honest of course I'm open to the idea that something more insidious is going on.

What is his endgame? Surely he realizes that for every terrorist he kills, he is creating two more? Perhaps why the legal case investigating genocide has credence... I just can not see any end to this horror.

Sadly, I was unable to comment on last week’s ruling from the International Court of Justice. Genocide can not be allowed.
I say “sadly” because it just illustrates the sheer INJUSTICE of this world. An innocuous joke about a privileged monarch leads to immediate punishment for me, but something actually MONUMENTALLY IMPORTANT such as ongoing slaughter of innocent children can continue unstopped. Life is a b I t c h .

“The United States has long been a supporter of Israel, but our policy is for a 2 state solution with security safeguards. Netanyahu has publicly ruled this out so it is time for a new government that at a minimum, tries to achieve it”

You can’t have a two state solution anymore when one state (Israel) is shamelessly colonising the West Bank and another ‘state’ (Palestine) want to see Israel destroyed. This dream died a long time ago, maybe in 1948. I can’t see this conflict ever ending now in our life time.

Or maybe the world is a little more complicated than you believe it to be…

There is one way for the war to stop, which is for the side who started the war (Hamas) and continues to fight in this war to surrender and release all the hostages. Why is no one calling for this? I will continue to wait for a court ruling to determine whether Israel has committed or genocide or not. I think the issue is too complicated to make this conclusion from the sidelines.

I’m saying this again to be provocative and seek the truth, and I hope it should be clear me being here long enough that I don’t play the tribal partisan game (ie I don’t believe anyone is immune to criticism regardless of what side of the political spectrum they sit on - and don’t mistake my criticism of left wing politicians or ideas to mean I am a republican or Trump supporter when I hope it’s clear I am not).
However, if you are so convinced that Gaza is a genocide and you think that the US is complicit in that - does that not make Biden more like Hitler than Trump? Genocide is the defining feature of Hitler. I recognise many on the left have indeed felt betrayed by Biden because of this point, but Jay I want you to answer directly. Is Biden complicit or even explicitly contributing to a genocide in Gaza - and are you giving him a free pass because he is not a republican? If it was Trump right now sending weapons to Gaza would you be reacting differently?
it seems to me if you were consistent in your views and values, you either need to have a much more aggressive and critical stance of the Biden administration than I have seen (ie call him out as committing genocide and like hitler) or you need to tone down your perception of what is happening in Gaza. I don’t see how you could claim it’s a genocide without strongly and firmly denouncing the second most impactful world leader in this context that is enabling this (behind Israel president). Or perhaps even number one because without the US Israel would likely not have the resources.
