My parents just told me that we have to put our dog Goldie to sleep tomorrow.
She had almost 17 years of a wonderful life, and is just too old now to keep going.
I hope she goes peacefully and knows that she was very loved and will be greatly missed.

She had a long life, and in the care of those who gave her love - none of the creatures of the earth could ask for more. I'm sure that her passing will be difficult, but it will be painless, and provide her the rest she deserves.

Oh - this breaks my heart. Poor, sweet baby. She'll be much better off but you'll be hurting for quite a while. Have you ever seen "The Rainbow Bridge"? When I first saw it I saved it and I've found myself going back to look at it a few times when I needed it.
Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent; Her eager body quivers. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster.

She looks a good bit like my dog who passed away a little over a year ago. It's so sad to lose a pet, I'm so sorry.

Posted: 2/27/06 at 5:05amI can't imagine anything harder than that decision. It is the only thing I dread for my baby. But, she was with you longer than most doggies could hope for and it is time for her to rest. Take comfort in the fact that she had a wonderful life, she had a lot of love and security and she will leave peacefully and go someplace wonderful where she'll wait to meet you again. I really feel your pain, but keep all the happy memories and smile, because I am sure your baby will hate to see you sad !
