It's Madeleine Allbright's fault

It's Madeleine Allbright's fault

For once, the Republicans seem to be saying that not everything bad is Bill Clinton's fault. The Korean Nuclear crisis is his secretary of state Madeleine Allbright's fault. At least according to the commercial made by David Zucker (Of Airplane and Scary Movie fame) which recreates her visit to Korea to meet with Kim before a (fake) montage of her appeasing dictators & terrorists around the world: Painting Bin Laden's cave, changing a tire on a Sheikh's limousine, having a tea party with terrorist, etc. The punch line to all this is that DEMOCRATS can't be trusted to deal with the current world situation!

Of course, the truth of the matter is, Madeleine Allbright did indeed negotiate with North Korea and did bring Kim a Michael Jordan basketball. But it was George HW Bush who gave chemical weapons to Saddam Hussein and taught Bin Laden guerilla warfare. It was Ronald Reagan who allowed the rise of Al Queda in Afghanistan. It was George W. Bush who, as a personal favor to the House of Saud, allowed private planes to gather members of the Bin Laden family in defiance of the flight ban following 9/11 and arrange for them to leave the country when American were not allowed to travel.

The Commercial is posted all over-- I won't provide a link in deference to board rules about video sharing sites, but you can google it and see it for yourself. But if it doesn't make you sick to your stomach, you haven't been paying attention.

Even McCain is on the "It's Clinton's fault" bandwagon--if Clinton was doing such a horrible job at the time, why didn't he speak up as a US Senator and demand something be done?

The problem is blaming Clinton for anything doesn't make it any less Bush's problem. He once said the negotiations with North Korea wouldn't work...maybe he should have tried first.

And Americans aren't buying it. It stinks too much of the "Blame it on the guy who doesn't work here anymore" thing. Americans don't fall for that stuff.

Absolutely Papa-- I should have noted that the GOP is officially distancing itself from the commercial....But still they allowed it out. Sort of like saying "Well, we can't control what the Swift Boaters do! We ddin't tell them to buy ads!"

I see. The game is not "Blame Clinton"--it's "Blame Democrats."

Tiresome.

Wouldn't it be a shocker if Republicans ever took responsibility?

But that would require integrity, wouldn't it? Something Republicans haven't had since...since...since...

The video is hilarious. Too bad the Democrat censors over at You Tube had it banned. They should practice some of the free speech that they preach.

I didn't even know that was suppose to be Albreight til they told me. Couldn't they find some better look alikes? The commercial looks like it was made by High school Film students trying to get a grade good enough to pass the class! Beside it NOT being funny I didn't think it was that bad or offensive. Looks like a SNL skit that was cut before air time. I have no problem with the liberal bashing in "Team America". It was funny. this was not funny. David Zucker of "Scary Movie 4" fame? the same Zucker who did "My Boss's Daughter"? Maybe they should leave his name out of it. Sounds like they are bragging.

The Democratic censors at You Tube had it banned? I watched it at You Tube not an hour ago. Did they take it down? It's also on at least a half-dozen other sites last I saw. I imagine we'll see it on all the Fox shows tonight, along with the question "Does this go too far?" which will be answered repeatedly "No. Not at all."

And Papa, Maybe I am cynical but they obviously made it available to be circulated and issued a very provacative statement to the effect that they couldn't use it because it was "Over the top" and "Inflamatory", words that only make you want to see what the fuss is about. It's a textbook way to get the commercial out without being linked to it.

I'm not blaming anyone either. Just pointing out that the Republican strategy of "Deny Responsibility At All Costs" is as lamebrained and successful as the Republican strategy of "Protect the Party's Power at the Expense of the Kids Under Our Protection" and "Deny Gays Rights and Scapegoat Them but Allow Closeted Gays Who Vote with Us to Act Inappropriately with Minors."

Not to mention the successful Republican strategies of "Airlift All Bin Ladins to Safety" and "Invade Afghanistan Then Cut and Run" and "Invade Iraq and Fan the Flame of Fanaticism While Allowing Iran and North Korea to Do Whatever the F*ck They Want."

Or "Ignore Warnings About Imminent Al Qaeda Attack" or "Ignore Warnings About Hurricane Devastation to Mississippi and Louisiana" or...or...or...

Oh, right--I forgot. Those were all Democrats' faults.

"The Democratic censors at You Tube had it banned?"

Maybe not banned, but put behind a censor. When you try to access it, you get the message below. There is absolutely nothing inappropriate in that video. There is much worse playing on primetime tv.

Fascinating stuff Papa. I've heard that a conservative is merely a liberal who's been mugged-- I guess we can update that and say a conservative is merely a liberal who's survived a terrorist attack?

But aside from all that, Bush was the president when we were attacked on 9/11. He was the only one in position to stop it and he determined our response. His security advisor read the daily briefing that warned of an impending attack and decided it was "of a historical nature." Bush glanced at the briefing and ignored it, as is his wont. No one around him was willing to challenge him. The one man who did try to get him to act was demoted and the security advisor who didn't rock the boat was promoted to Secretary of State.

And the Republicans have been able to ride this to 6 years of unchallenged power. Amazing.

i'm gonna split hairs a bit, joe. the document did not warn of an impending attack.

the following is a transcript of the august 6, 2001, presidential daily briefing entitled bin laden determined to strike in us. parts of the original document were not made public by the white house for security reasons.

clandestine, foreign government, and media reports indicate bin laden since 1997 has wanted to conduct terrorist attacks in the us. bin laden implied in u.s. television interviews in 1997 and 1998 that his followers would follow the example of world trade center bomber ramzi yousef and "bring the fighting to america."

after u.s. missile strikes on his base in afghanistan in 1998, bin laden told followers he wanted to retaliate in washington, according to a -- -- service.

an egyptian islamic jihad (eij) operative told - - service at the same time that bin laden was planning to exploit the operative's access to the u.s. to mount a terrorist strike.

the millennium plotting in canada in 1999 may have been part of bin laden's first serious attempt to implement a terrorist strike in the u.s.

convicted plotter ahmed ressam has told the fbi that he conceived the idea to attack los angeles international airport himself, but that in ---, laden lieutenant abu zubaydah encouraged him and helped facilitate the operation. ressam also said that in 1998 abu zubaydah was planning his own u.s. attack.

ressam says bin laden was aware of the los angeles operation. although bin laden has not succeeded, his attacks against the u.s. embassies in kenya and tanzania in 1998 demonstrate that he prepares operations years in advance and is not deterred by setbacks. bin laden associates surveyed our embassies in nairobi and dar es salaam as early as 1993, and some members of the nairobi cell planning the bombings were arrested and deported in 1997.

al qaeda members -- including some who are u.s. citizens -- have resided in or traveled to the u.s. for years, and the group apparently maintains a support structure that could aid attacks.

two al-qaeda members found guilty in the conspiracy to bomb our embassies in east africa were u.s. citizens, and a senior eij member lived in california in the mid-1990s.

a clandestine source said in 1998 that a bin laden cell in new york was recruiting muslim-american youth for attacks.

we have not been able to corroborate some of the more sensational threat reporting, such as that from a ---- service in 1998 saying that bin laden wanted to hijack a u.s. aircraft to gain the release of "blind sheikh" omar abdel rahman and other u.s.-held extremists.

nevertheless, fbi information since that time indicates patterns of suspicious activity in this country consistent with preparations for hijackings or other types of attacks, including recent surveillance of federal buildings in new york.

the fbi is conducting approximately 70 full-field investigations throughout the u.s. that it considers bin laden-related. cia and the fbi are investigating a call to our embassy in the uae in may saying that a group or bin laden supporters was in the u.s. planning attacks with explosives.

yep, 9/11 came on bushie's watch and the buck stops with him, but trying to hang this briefing paper up as proof that they knew what was coming is weak at best. read it again and determine for me where the message of imnpending attack is.

papa - I think this alone indicates that a follow-up by those in charge would be appropriate - but I'm under the impression that that wasn't the response.
