Best12, I agree. For someone in his position, he made a major faux pas. What was he thinking?
Maybe he was hungry and wanted a baked potato.
"Why is he famous? What does he do?"
Seriously? He's an editor-at-large at American Vogue. He worked his way up the fashion ladder for years and is actually a very powerful man in the fashion world.
However, he also dresses incredibly flamboyantly. This is not news to anybody. Jennifer can't have been surprised.

See, Stanley Tucci as Andre Leon Talley would have been much nicer.
Or Queen Latifah as Andre Leon Talley.
I kept (drunkenly) asking, 'Why is Old Deuteronomy at the Oscars(r)?'

What I don't understand is that if Jennifer didn't care for the dress, why didn't she just say "no, I'm wearing the Cavalli." Did she owe it to or was she obligated to Andre or the designer to wear it - and therefore "had" to wear it? Or was she just trying to be nice?

Sounds like she was probably trying to be nice and please people and wound up being bullied. I'm glad she changed gowns!
She was on the most recent cover of Vogue. It was a really big deal, and I wonder if this was a "required favour" in exchange for the cover.
Perhaps his best days have passed him by ...
I was being a little tongue in cheek, as I do not recall seeing him on any pre-show events prior to this year. I wonder what the fallout of this dress and his view of it will be.
He kept raving about it during the ABC pre-show and was taking full credit for it.
