Somehow, Jennifer Holliday had to have paid off Andre Leon Talley, who is apparently responsible for the mess she wore down the red carpet - because I have a feeling that the dress she wore to the after party was the one she wanted to wear to the event (which looked much better!).
"Jennifer Hudson told Matt Lauer this morning that the only regret she had about the Oscars was her dress. Jennifer landed on a few worst dressed list for her Jetsons-inspired Oscar De La Renta thing. Vogue editor, Andre Leon Talley, kind of sponsored JHud and wanted to help her find the perfect dress. Unfortunately, he chose that mess. The morning of the ceremony, JHud wanted to go with a custom Roberto Cavalli dress instead. That’s when Andre lost it.
A source said, “Jennifer was kind of sponsored by Talley and Vogue. Andre insisted she wear that hideous Oscar de la Renta dress with the awful, awful gold python bolero. Jennifer really didn’t want to, and so [noted stylist] Jessica Paster got her a beautiful gold Roberto Cavalli custom-made. But when Andre found out, he went ballistic. Moments before she left for the show, there was a power struggle and Jennifer ended up putting his outfit on.”"
Andre Secretly Working for JHolliday?
I didn't think the dress was that bad once she got rid of the, um, python bolero. (is that what that was called?)

Meee-yow! Interesting!
Calvin's right. Once she lost the Star Wars jacket, as I like to call it, the dress was fine, save the color.
She has a gorgeous skin and hair, and I would have liked to see her dress in a color that showed off her beautiful skin tone a bit more.

I thought the dress was adorable.
Agreed - but look at this . . .
If this was the dress she wanted to wear ...
Girl go with you first choice, or get the bolero off your shoulders!
She was stunning on every other red carpet this year...shame on the biggest night that ahole got hold of her.
What a hideous individual (Andre, that is). Even the people on E! last night were blaming him, too.
Eh. I even kind of liked the bolero (which I was drunkenly insisting was a 'shrug'. Bad gay.)
And it was nowhere near as awful as the disturbingly wan entirety of Kirstin Dunst.

God, she's so stunning! I love the second dress.
He kept saying she looked like the "people's princess" during the awards...
Only if they were on crack.
Why is he famous? What does he do? I liked her second dress so much more. Even the dress for her number was much better, albeit it was just asking for a wardrobe malfunction!

Why did the dress have POCKETS!!!????
It definitely looked better without that space-age bolero, but the dress still did NOTHING for her. She would've looked better if she'd worn an off-the-rack prom dress from SEARS!!!!
which I was drunkenly insisting was a 'shrug'. Bad gay.
I guess we're just behind on our Civil War era fashion terms!
(thought the pockets were cute)
You did not!
Personally, I loved the red dress she performed in. That looked the best.
She did prove that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.
I did...maybe not the oscars, but, hey...to hold her speach, or hide her... scratching?

I loved the red dress too. It was sexy and looked fab on her. Even if I did catch a glimpse of her pastie!
And the gold after-party dress is much more stunning than the brown red carpet frock. It also looks more suited to a starlet than the brown one does.
If that were me, I would have given Andre a swift kick in the boys, and then I would have worn the Cavalli!

He clearly went after the young "new" girl in town. What a bully.

In the sketch, the dress with the bolero looked good on a long lean model. However, it did not flatter Jennifer's figure and made her lose her neck. Her other choices were much better. At least she wasn't wearing the bolero when she accepted her award since that is what would be remembered anyway.

I thought the red dress for the performance was sensational - and you could tell she felt sexy in it.
I'm so glad she went on the record to explain the dress. Good for her!
<--This dress was the best, followed closely by that sexy number she wore during the performance.
Well, I think she has learned from this, and I also think from now on, she will have the final word and not let anyone tell her what to wear.
I liked the pockets. Very All About Eve!
At least she was smart enough to change her dress before going into the press room.
I thought that red carpet thing made her look like a baked potato with the aluminum foil still clinging to it.
She did look better once the 'wrapper' was off, and she looked fantastic in the second dress when she met the press.
I'll bet this gal won't take any crap from any bullying taste-free succubi any more. And I love that at least the critics are blaming the right person in this case. He should take all the heat and poison for his control-freak tirades. He messed UP, and it's his job to choose the right thing. Fire him!!
I guess Andre is looking to be the next Carson Kressley...he'd be better suited as Cogsworth in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.
