I get what you're saying, Jersey, but I think one of the problems with that mindset (more broadly, not for you specifically, because clearly you and your wife know what works best for you) is that unless we get to a point where
straight people are also vociferously claiming that their sexuality is private and no one's business, it just doesn't really work, except to again reinforce the notion that saying "My private life is my private life" is just a coded way of saying "I'm gay but can't or won't say it out loud."
And I find a lot of times if you don't wear your sexuality like tag, the assumption is that you're straight. Not that I resent being taken for straight, but I'm not straight, so there's no reason for people to carry that false assumption about me (exceptions owing to safety, etc, excluded, but I'd like to get to a point where I don't have to worry about my safety because I choose to live my life as relatively openly gay.)
