That felt like the longest trailer ever. That looks really bad. And misogynistic.

Julia's okay. Range is not a big thing in Hollywood--if someone can pull in an audience based on 'that thing they do' then they capitalize on it.

Trailer showed Julia saying various stuff, and Phil Collins' daughter not saying a darn thing. Just kinda floating around looking wide eyed and vapid. This looked like a parody of something, like a trailer that'd play within a movie that's actually about one of the actors, who is playing an actor.

I'm most worried about the fact that that same Julia Roberts intends to play Dr. Brockner, another character that won't benefit from her, girl next door, "aren't I adorable?" persona.

That's going to be truly frightening.

Wow-trailer looks awful and Julia is just wretched.She didn't even attempt a character-no non-Julia affect or mannerisms other than an occasion "hey girllllll" type quip she probably threw in for the gay audience.

This film looks like a train wreck. 'Bird Sh*t Facial?' Really? Julia, why don't you retire after this. You got your check,just go away and enjoy the money. PLEASE!

Chelsea Cinemas on 23rd and 8th had costumes from this film on display in the lobby. I wasn't impressed by the costumes or the (god-awful) trailer.

I think "Snow White and the Huntsman" looks far more interesting.

I took my mom to the movies for her birthday and this is what she chose to see. It's pretty awful. It seems to think it's HILARIOUS but apart from a few chuckles, it's pretty grim (no pun intended).

Julia Roberts is pretty terrible in it, too. She does this sort of transatlantic accent thing that fades in and out (mostly out). Maybe on paper this looked like a win, but yikes, it's as bad as the previews make it look.

I don't really get how Lily Collins gets work besides the fact that she's Phil Collins' daughters, she has such a bland screen presence! Roberts looks like she's not even trying to act.

The reviews have not be nearly as venomous as I thought it would be. Hammer is actually getting praised for being so committed what he was given and the production design (including an animated short prelude to the film by the same people who did the short, "The Tale of Three Brothers", for Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1) are also getting praise. That said, I tend to believe Phyllis and the people over at io9.com.

As for Lilly Collins, Tarsem seemed to make her look like Audrey Hepburn with the 'do she has for the film.

The director Tarsem Sing is visually, a genius. Unfortunately, he's probably the biggest example I can think of currently working in the style over substance genre--at least the most extreme. I'm a little surprised he gets so many big budget movies s he has never had a huge hit (Immortals I guess did turn a profit--but was basically his more beautiful take on 300--typical of him he based it on Caravagio paintings). Besides the famous Losing My Religion video which made him big he did the J Lo movie The Cell, which had some interesting bits, and his long in gestation dream/vanity project The Fall which is absolutely GORGEOUS and thrilling visually--and to even call it a mess narratively would be kind).

I guess this film wasn't scripted by him, so maybe they felt it would be safe...

49% of critics liked it on Rotten Tomatoes. I was expecting 10% to be the highest rating that it could get.

It was pretty to look at, as were Armie Hammer's nipples, but it was really really dreadful. I keep having flashbacks to this afternoon. This movie really scarred me.

I liked Roberts, Lily Collins should never be allowed in front of a camera again, she really is bland. The production design is wonderful in places. And some of the frocks are drag queens wet dream.

It thought it was completely painful. An absolutely bore and Roberts was embarrassingly bad. The storytelling was a mess; I couldn't wait till it was over.

The only positive attribute this film could boast was having Armie half naked. Even that couldn't distract from how dreadful this thing was.

I went in expecting worse, but that's not to say it's good. Visually, it's really beautiful. The CGI, sets, costumes - everything looks great. There are some laughs, and Nathan Lane steals the show. I'm not just being biased, look at the talent, you can tell. He's getting the best notices. Julia Roberts was just awful from beginning to end. Her accent wavered in and out the entire film and she wasn't evil... she was just a bitch. I personally loved Lily Collins. And really, the whole thing is an interesting take on the whole fairy tale. It just isn't executed as well as it could have been.

The best thing to keep in mind is, it's an advertised FAMILY movie. It's for kids. Although, I caught some really dirty jokes here and there. I've seen worse.

The "kids movie" excuse doesn't fly for me really--the best family movies (ie the better Disney animated films, lots of Pixar, the awesome Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli films) appeal to adults as well as kids (and I don't just mean the somewhat annoying trend to shove many references and jokes that only adults would get to keep them entertained, which always seems disengenous to me).

However, that said, I think part of the problem too--largely ebcause of Julia Roberts, was that initially it wasn't marketed clearly as a family movie at all.

Even though the Kids' Choice Awards are for younger viewers I can name lots of other people who should have been nominated in the category of Favorite Villain instead of Julia. Examples would Charlize Theron and Marion Cotillard.
