I love the design, actually.
And I love Armie Hammer.

Zepka, I'm with you, I don't really get "evil" from those pictures, all I get is that they are trying to copy the ALICE IN WONDERLAND design as Taz said. They're just pictures at the end of the day so maybe she captures it better in the actual movie.
Peter Dinklage is super sexy, why doesn't he get his own movie? I'd rather see that than anything starring that awfully untalented girl Lily Collins. She got some pretty embarrassing reviews for ABDUCTION and she looks bland as only she can in those pictures.

The title of the film will be, "Mirror, Mirror." I guess they decided not to have the words "Snow White" in the title because Disney used "Tangled" as a title for a film entirely based off of Rapunzel, and that film did not have the main character's name in the title like the fairy tale it was based off of. Also, they may want people to think that it is a different film from the upcoming, "Snow White & the Huntsman," which will be released the same year.
Tarsem Singh's Snow White movie finally gets a title, and 'Snow White' is nowhere to be seen

Well, it seems Julia will NOT be playing a "VERY EVIL" queen judging by this trailer:

That looks awful! Like completely awful. Yikes.
And Julia Roberts looks like the nicest Evil Queen I've ever seen.

Also, the references to pop culture ("Say hello to my little friend" and the other one I can't remember) make this movie feel like its in the vein of Airplane. Or Scary Movie.

For those who want to see a darker version of the tale, here's a trailer for 'Snow White and the Huntsman' with Kristen Stewart as Snow White, Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman, and Charlize Theron as a MUCH MORE Evil Queen:

They're calling it "Mirror, Mirror: but it's not based on the Gregory Maguire book? Confusing.
ETA: I can picture Miguel Ferrer rolling his eyes will doing that voice over

Whoever cast horse faced Roberts as the Evil Queen should be drawn and quartered! That woman only plays one character... Julia Roberts!

Oof! Saw the trailer. It makes Snow White and The Huntsman look like Kurosawa and I say that as a defender of Tarsem. Armie Hammer and Lilly Collins seem okay if not great choices but I have no idea what direction the film's script wants it to be and I guess Julia has no concept of playing evil.
Charlize's queen looks amazing, OTOH but I am reserving judgment on Kristen Stewart as Snow White.
Eris, they had to call it Mirror, Mirror supposedly due to licensing, naming rights and the fact it is the OTHER Snow White film with Snow White and the Huntsman. Though SN&TH comes out after Mirror, Mirror it has been in production for a much longer period and even when it was just an un-produced screenplay it was well-known.

Posted: 11/16/11 at 4:27amPassing on this one. Julia does not make a good Evil Queen. I get that they are not going for what we are used to, but the Evil Queen is iconic.

Posted: 11/16/11 at 9:46amI'm sure Julia would not have played it evil. She wants to be the likable girl next door.......still. I would not be surprised if the actual script was darker in tone and Julia insisted on changes to be made.Looks like the Queen is the star of the movie. She has no range and I don't think she done anything good except for Erin Brokovich. This could have been a made for TV Disney movie. It will bomb. The God awful one liners and jokes made me squirm.

From IMDB:
"The original script included a scene between a shirtless Prince (Armie Hammer) and the Queen (Julia Roberts) in which the Queen remarks how smooth his chest is. This line had to be eliminated when Hammer refused to shave the hair off his chest for the scene."
While you have to consider the source...I say Bravo, Armie!
"In Oz, the verb is douchifizzation." PRS

In my experience of the world, more and more every day, a truth universally acknowledged is that almost any group can reach consensus in having a crush on Peter Dinklage.

Peter Dinklage is fine!
I agree with the people who have suggested Roberts is fairly rangeless.

I'm with you on that, Phyl. I've liked her and at times even liked her quite a bit, but the degree to which her performances are successful are almost entirely a function of how well-suited the character is to her doing "that thing she does" and, of course, how strong the rest of the production is.
For the best example of that, I'd cite "Notting Hill," where she gives exactly the same performance that she'd given or would eventually give in a number of other movies, but everything else about the movie is so strong that it somehow feels new; for another example of the same phenomenon, see Hugh Grant in "Notting Hill."
For actors who have the same problem, but "got away with it" for a much shoter period, see Sandra Bullock, Will Farrell, James Spader, John Cusack, (Joan Cusack still makes it work, but she's never a leading lady), and Jennifer Aniston.
Clooney does it a bit, but with more nuance. Brad Pitt used to do it, but he just gets better as he gets older. For perhaps the most successful examples, look at Bogart and Cagney. They did the same thing for years and years and made it feel fresh almost every time.
So Julia's not in bad company I don't dislike her at all, but "range" isn't a word I'd ever apply. The closest she's come to really getting outside her comfort zone was "Closer," but one movie in 24 years does not an actor of range make.

In what world is Kristen Stewart, the blandest, palest, most awkward, and most wooden actress in hollywood, the fairest of them all? ESPECIALLY when a woman as hot as Charlize Theorn is the evil queen?
In my opinion, Snow White and the Huntsman has the better queen, while Mirror Mirror has the better male hero. This is just by me judging on the trailers alone. Plus, I'm more interested in the prince than the huntsman.
The Snow White story in "Once Upon a Time" seems better than both these two movies. Does anyone remember the movie "Snow White: A Tale of Terror"? Now THAT was a good movie!
In my opinion, the best live action retelling of a fairy tale is "Ever After". No other retelling of any tale has compared to it thus far, in my opinion of course.
