Well that is MUCH worse thna I imagined!
We're still worse, but ouch!
i'll prolly love kong, poppy, but i'm just keeping things in perspective. a great review from EW does not a oscar make. his name escapes me at the moment but it was the male critic for EW that gave rent an A.
Well not everyone agrees that Rent doesn't deserve a good review, so can we please drop that topic as it HAS been played out extensively?
KK and Brokeback have both gotten As from EW and they aren't the only one giving these two films glowing reviews.
No indeed. As I said on an earlier thread, Brokeback is at 83% fresh, according to Rotten Tomatoes.
i'm just saying that an A from EW does not equal an academy award. and, no, rent did not deserve an A.
Nobody is saying that an A JUST from EW equals Academy Awards. But Kong is currently getting raves across the board from the major reviewers, and if that trend continues, then surely it's going to end up garnering at least some nominations.
it was said a couple pages ago, i believe, that kong was a lock for the oscar nomination because EW gave it an A.
edit: it was on page 6:
"Wow, I'm reading the EW review right now. It's a full-out love letter to Peter Jackson and KING KONG. I almost suspected it was ironic if it wasn't for the A grade. Schwarzbaum really, reeeally liked it.
I think a Best Picture nomination is now locked. The excitement mounts!"
Well, EW IS very good at predicting the nominees and winners.
And, fine if that is your point and your OPINION about Rent.
We can toss out EW's review and still see quite clearly that this Oscar Race is between King Kong, Munich, and Brokeback Mountain at this moment in time.
When all the LA, NY, NBR, GG noms and awards get announced next week, this could all change.
The devil is in the details, RobbO. A best pic nomination is NOW locked, I take that to mean the EW rave IN ADDITION to the across the board major review raves the movie is receiving. Hair splittage at its finest.
jerby, i think that even you could see that rent was not an "A" movie, right?
That is SUCH a pretentious question.
What is it about you haters of the Rent film that make you feel that you are ABSOLUTELY correct in your opinion and that anyone who enjoyed the film is ABSOLUTELY, WITHOUT QUESTION wrong?
I would have expected this from anyone but you Robb.
i didn't hate rent jerby. not in the least. and i don't mean my question to be pretentious - at all. i'm just saying that even if you thought rent was a good film, i wouldn't think you would give it an A. i could be wrong. for me, a film has to be damn near perfect to score an A.
well for the record, EW gave it an A- :P
I don't know what exact grade I would give it, but I can fully see the validity in those reviewers who gave it B and higher grades.
oh, and don't you ever, ever talk to me in all caps again, young man!
Don't you like being shouted at RobbO? It's probably my fault as I told Jerby to pick on someone his own size.
Well, robb, you need to wipe the crud out of your eyes as clearly only a few words are in caps. Therefore, I did not speak to you in all caps.
BUT I CAN RECTIFY THAT FOR YOU IF YOU LIKE!
(smooch!)
first off, poppy, don't make me kick your ass (or your ankles as the case may be).
secondly, jerby, i didn't say you talked to me ENTIRELY in all caps. although i know how you rentheads like to split hairs.
oh, i forgot. you're an A- renthead.
oh VERY cute, cutie.
I was a Renthead for exactly one week in 1998.
dammit!
But you did say ALL in caps, RobbO, which would imply that Jerby spoke to you entirely in caps. You need to learn to read the fine print.
As small as you are, the fine print should look like normal print.
fine. you two freakin' amazon bullies have it your way!
I'm only an inch taller than you, but I make that inch count!
