Richards obviously has issues, but so does the heckler. his actions were also rude and uncalled for. he's just as much at fault. Richards did not just see a black man in the audience and start spewing hatred. he was provoked to do so, perhaps under some kind of alcohol or drug spell, but still probably speaking from deep down where he has issues that need to be dealt with. and while Richards did cross the line the heckler crossed it first and should also be issuing some sort of apology to Richards.

Who are you -- his publicist?
"and while the Richards did cross the line the heckler crossed it first and should also be issuing some sort of apology to Richards. "
Really? Heckling is rude. But it's also pretty common in comedy clubs. A professional comedian who's been around as long as Richards should be used to it. I'm sure it's not the first time he's been heckled.
Not only should he be used to it, he should also have a whole bagful of comebacks that aren't racist in tone.
Maybe he's not good with comebacks, unless they're scripted.

Bottom line - there is no excuse. He's a racist, and he's been found out. Let's hope he does something about it - out of the public eye.
i don't think he's a racist. i think he was trying to go somewhere with it and failed miserably in his attempt.
heckling is rude. just because it's common doesn't make it right. yes Michael should also be used to it, but that still doesn't make either one of them any less at fault.

papa - OMG - is Kerry actually Kramer?!?
I see where you're coming from, but the foundation still rankles.
BSoBW2 - I love that one Betty White joke from Bringin' Down the House where she says something like "If there is Mexican on the street, he'd better have a leaf blower."
If these people are going to be racist they gotta be funny.
Anyone catch the Mel Gibson (too soon) thing on Family Guy last night. I COULD NOT believe it. It was sooooooooooooo funny. That show is so over the top. It was the most racist thing I have seen on television in a long time and it was not even explained. Classic.
If you don't have something funny to say, heck, don't say it all!
"heckling is rude. just because it's common doesn't make it right. yes Michael should also be used to it, but that still doesn't make either one of them any less at fault.:
The former insulted a bad comic. The latter insulted an entire race. I think it's a litte different.
