I don't know why all those girls are getting in such a snit about it. Men have been running for homecoming queen for years now. Hell, it was even the focus of an episode of Designing Women back in the 80s.

I love it. Frederick is the most conservative part of the otherwise moderate to fairly liberal Maryland -- it typically sends Republicans to Congress while the rest of the state is solidly Democratic (though it must be said that what's a "conservative" for Maryland, would probably get someone called a communist and lynched in the Bible Belt). I'm sure some folks flipped out at Hood, but they'll get over it soon enough.

Yeah, MD is blue, but there are plenty of "countrified" (I'm being polite) pockets that I often forget about (okay, choose to ignore). Maybe I'm just a Montgomery County snob. My grandparents like to eat out and antique in Frederick, but once they stumbled upon a Klan rally at one of their favorite restaurants in nearby Hagerstown. So this Homecoming King thing is a pretty big deal in the context of where it happened. :)

Anthony was the gayest of the gay, Calvin. When he had girlfriends, I was always like, "Riiiiiiiiight." Prison let out a whole new side of Anthony and I don't think he was ever able to really turn back.

I think it's stopped by now (not sure though), but the Klan rallies happened through the 80s and into the 90s, I know.

I agree, I would much rather she be voted queen. But hey, a step forward or a step backward is still a step. Just not sure where it leads.
