i didn't meant to scare you... sorry about that. i just get worried when it comes to central lines and i wanted to make sure you kept your eye one it so it didn't get infected.
sabrelady, in my case, it was a nurse... a very stupid nurse who didn't put a window dressing over it, but instead taped a piece of gauze over it. it was after an endoscopy and i wasn't awake enough to stop her and tell her what kind of dressing to put over it.

Posted: 12/3/10 at 12:46pmPhyllis, I don't want you worrying about that man of yours- send me his number and I will BE SURE to make sure he doesn't spend all weekend fretting about you. You're welcome, it's the LEAST I could do!

Just a possiblity: the supply room didn't have any more window dressings. Or maybe the nurse WAS lazy and stupid.
I just know that I plug along doing the best I can with what happens to be available to me at the time. And I know I take a lot of blame (as a nurse) for equipment that doesn't work, test reports that "go missing" in the cyberland of multiple data bases that have glitches communicating, supply shortages, and scheduling errors. The blame doesn't always belong where it seems like it should go.
I'm done being defensive now.

For what it's worth, Abba, I don't think anyone perceived what you wrote as trying to start drama. I appreciate the concern.
I've spent the past few weeks NOT really thinking about the inevitable, and now that it is almost upon me, I can think of nothing else. Of course I'm worried about totally inane things like whether or not I'll get wifi there and if I'll have to share a room with an a-hole.

Oh, Abba...I didn't think that you were starting drama either. And you are right, as patients we all need to be vigilant.
I've just been getting hammered at work for things that are out of my control and am a little sensitive to the whole topic.

Sending love to Phyl and iflit!
Hope the chemo isn't going too badly for you Phyl, and I hope your injections aren't causing too much pain iflit.

Adding my love to that being sent to Phyl and iflit.
And thinking of all the other special people who are going through hard times and facing challenges - whether they've shared or not.
Special wishes to all for continued strength and peace.

Posted: 12/8/10 at 12:06pmDay three at the chemo spa. Word has it that I'm going to go home on Friday as opposed to Saturday, which would be nice. The nurses are great and the drugs they give me to sleep are super, but I miss my stinky malcontent dog!

Posted: 12/8/10 at 1:58pmGood lord. If he wasn't effing psycho, it might be feasible to sneak him in. But alas, this dog is crazy. I have gotten reports from my mom that he is being rather well-behaved in my absence.

One doesn't really picture Kringas coping well with a stroll down the hospital corridor, what with all the attendant bells and whistles.
On a sadder note, I lost a friend today to the big C of the prostate to brain variety, which doesn't lend itself to a catchy dubbing such as nutlung or boobliver disease. In a rare instance of me showing up somewhere on time, I went out to visit him last night...not knowing quite how bad things were.

So sorry, iflit.
But to balance that bad news, I learned yesterday that a friend of mine, who learned a year ago that her breast cancer had recurred and spread, was told today that all her tumors were shrinking and that the mysterious spot on her spine was, in fact, nothing.
Wishing all here the very, very best.

sorry to hear that =[
i wanted to pop in this thread to see how PRS is doing with chemo... so, how are you doing?
when my grandmother went through chemo a few years ago (she had lymphoma) one of the things that helped her was to pour half an ensure in a cup and fill the other half with ice cream. it helped her stay on top of her nutrician so she wouldn't have to miss chemo due to being too sick to get it. it really worked for her since she stayed healthy the whole time she was on chemo.

Thanks for checking in, Abba. I'm doing okay. Today I was really nauseated when I woke up, but that seems to have passed. I have an appetite, and I've ordered breakfast, so I'm hoping that when it gets here I'll be able to keep it down. Since my taste buds haven't gone all wonky yet I'm trying to enjoy food while I still can. It still amazes me at how unhealthy the choices are on the hospital menu. Today I'm having a breakfast sandwich with sausage and eggs and cheese.
It seems I'm still on schedule to go home tomorrow, and I cannot wait. I want to be in my own bed, not hooked up to IVs 24/7! I HAVE managed to go this week without having to share my hospital room, so I am thankful for that. And the people who didn't have to share a room with me should be thankful, too, as I tend to get really cranky in the evenings in here. I know, so hard to believe, right?
Thanks for the ensure advice. Another friend who had lymphoma told me she did something similar.

Sleeping in your own bed will be heaven!
Glad to hear that the first week in the chemo spa was relatively uneventful. And that you had privacy.
Give Kringas a big hug!!

Posted: 12/9/10 at 10:53amApparently what Kringas needs is a big bath! My mom has actually been able to pick him up a few times, but she's not crazy enough to try and bathe him.

Posted: 12/9/10 at 12:49pmthat's how hospitals stay in buisness... you go in for chemo, and then in a few years, you go back for a triple bypass because of all the junk food they give you. =]

Posted: 12/9/10 at 1:37pmA word of warning from experience. Do not...do not EVER mention that you are a vegetarian when being admitted. I ended up with the menu person insisting that the only vegetarian option was "vegan"...and that wasn't pretty. It took a couple of days to get to the point where I was able to just pick and choose around the meat on a regular menu. And it's not like the doctor had ordered a specific diet...
