I gotta say, I saw Lance Armstrong's commercial and thought, gosh, he is looking kind of OLD...then I realized how great that was.

PEACE.

I have hesitated to say much in these threads cos when u are in "the biz", so to speak, you never sure how much to say, in case you end up 2nd guessing the primary care providers and muddying the waters. That being said, I wholeheartedly support Iflit & Phyliss in their fights against their disease. The one thing I feel safe in recommending is the book/program "The Healing Journey" by Dr Alistair Cumming, a cancer survivor himself. He has been running th program( mind/body connection) from my hospital for more than 20 years. You can probaly find the books in most major bookstores under the health/self help section. Or google healing journey and you should find the webpage. I've know an number of patients who've taken the program and all but one felt it was worthwhile & a positive experince. Good luck to you both and G*d bless.

Thanks, sabrelady. I'll check it out (as long as it there are no coffee enemas, like in the book my boyfriend suggested to me). :)

I'm usually against the word "journey" but if sabrelady says it cool, it must be.

Can you just start with a cappuccino enema?

The quackeroo therapy he suggested involves two coffee enemas a day. I have enough trouble sleeping as it is. If I started shoving caffeine up my ass twice a day, I don't think I'd sleep till 2012.

Snake oil.

I had almost finished writing you a long-winded reply about that therapy yesterday when we had cable/internet outage and I lost it.

But the short version is that it's snake oil at a hefty price. If I'm going to indulge in expensive beans, they are going down, not up

reading this thread made me realize that around this time last year, i was visiting my best friend in the hospital while he was recovering from 2 surgeries to remove a testicle and several lymph nodes due to them having cancer in them, and sitting with him on the couch after his chemo sessions. now, a year later, unless you saw his scar or he told you what had happened, there would be absolutely nothing about the way he looks or acts to suggest he was as sick as he was a year ago.

i wish the same type of recovery for both of you.

Thanks, abba. Your friend's story sounds similar to my go round earlier this year. Hopefully his is gone for good!

iflit, thanks for your thoughts. That's essentially what I told him, but it's been a real battle over this. I know he means well, but part of me just wants to tell him I thought he was smarter than this.

Difficult to believe that those coffe enemas are still around after 20+ yrs of no success.( plus all those stained undies!) Not mention Laetrile ( peach pit poison) Essiac, the DaBello tx and my personal fav quackery- Shark cartilige cos " you never see a shark w cancer!". Thats a $50.00 h**ker reach around if ever I've seen one. Ive even seen chemicals from dry cleaning compounds given. Oh and the you can manage it with proper organic nutrients. Complimentary tx is one thing but this stuff is actually dangerous. (there is a good website called "QuackWatch" which investigates and details various claims/tx for various diseases a good resource to check out.
Phyliss- I've seen pretty advanced disease w mets successfully treated - keep the faith!
Iflit- ya know dontcha- the time is always NOW- Listen to your docs find yourself a good support network ( I always recomend Gilda's Club-great resource on a variety of levels) I will hold a good thought!

I was thinking that today was the day Phyllis was starting treatment. Not sure if he'll be online (I think he's an inpatient for this course...), but I wanted him to know all sorts of good thoughts are heading West. May the treatment yield the best ever results with the least possible amount of side effects!

Meanwhile, I had my second treatment (actually a big ass injection in, you know, MY big ass). The side effects are so minimal that it's difficult to feel like I'm actually doing something that could be fighting the tumor. I understand it intellectually, but it just seems like anything that is being effective should cause more misery than this. Won't find out if it's working or not for another month and a half.

I'm also sending out good thoughts to all the other people who have posted in this thread about themselves and people they know.
May we all have an appreciable amount of quality time left to enjoy!

Apparently it's tomorrow (today? Depending on time zone?), but that's really here nor there when it comes to the wishings of wellness. I echo your sentiments for Phyllis and I'm so happy to hear that your own treatment is going so well! I'm sending out concentrated vibes of well-being for both of you!

Rumors of my chemo have been greatly exaggerated. That starts next Monday. Today I simply have a procedure to put my chemo port in, a pulmonary test, a meeting with my doctor and a CT scan. The first is at 7:30 (CST), the last at 3:00 PM. I won't be able to eat till it's all over, and I haven't been able to eat since midnight. I'ma be real pleasant come the end of the day. I mean, even more pleasant and sparkling than usual!

Thanks for the kind thoughts. I just wish I could go back to bed!

If Phyllis can't eat until after 3, neither will I. HUNGER STRIKE FOR CANCER!!!

Thinking of you while pouring coffee up my ass. (Hey, it's like mainlining caffeine.)

I hope it is all smooth sailing from here on.

PEACE.

I'm back at home. I managed to get an earlier CT scan, so everything was done before noon. The pulmonary tests were fine, the port got installed properly and the scans showed the tumors have grown a little bit, but that's to be expected. All in all, it wasn't too bad. Plus, I have codeine for the pain!

please be alert as possible when people are accessing or hooking something up to your port! i got a blood infection last year that almost killed me because a nurse didn't use aspetic technique with it. so please please please make sure everyone is careful with it. be annoying in reminding them if you have to.

No don't be annoying, be persistent and vigilent.More successful.(ask questions& keep asking until u understand the answers and DON"T stop asking til u do)

Pax- I don't know the nurse or the situation but I know nurses take a lot o heat for stuff not neccessarily their fault. i had a young leukemic patient who had persistant line infections, Percutaneous, CVAD's, AND ports, he'd had them all and they all had infected. NObody in Infectious disease or my leuk docs could figure it out finally. ( they guessed it might have been something in the home enviorment but ???)
(OOO I just remembered my ID doc told me about a pt that had a really weird line infection not something humans normally get- turned out he'd been letting his CAT play w his access line- now THAT"S a warning the manufacturer never thought of"not to be used as a cat toy!)

What's up, Phyllis? Doing okay?

Everyone else?

I had the second big ass (any way you want to look at it) injection of my treatment on Tuesday. Nothing to write home about. It doesn't cause enough misery for me to actually think it might be doing any good and won't have any testing to find out until mid-January. So I'm basically just trying to get on with life and ignore the cancer while I can.

I'm fine. Still a little sore from where they placed the port, but it's nothing I can't handle. Although, now Abba has scared the beejeezus out of me thinking about port infections. LIVESTRONG Good wishes for the ones who need it...

My man was in town this week, and I just took him to the station this morning to send him back to the Windy City. I'm planning on taking it easy this weekend and spending quality time with Kringas until I have to check in the hospital on Monday.
