LOOKING

I guess I really am waiting for an honestly funny ensemble show with dramatic moments happening between people who seem they are creatures who could exist in the environment the show is set in. I think that leaves a lot of wiggle room.

My whole adult life (after Brothers on Showtime), I have felt so let down by the breadcrumbs that seem to satisfy too many (in my opinion, don't want Carlos taking that the wrong way depending on which drug he's on at the time he reads this! it is MY opinion and MY disappointment) viewers follow and dissect because it's all there is.

IS that all there is?

I think this THREAD would make a great HBO series.

It just needs some sex scenes.

Oh I'd like to believe that, but I'm sure it's not. Somebody will spin the Wheel of Carlos and who knows which version of you will show up?

For what it's worth, I do agree that the Richie character mumbles. Personally, I've found him annoying. The way he flees when the going gets tough or when he's chastised for being an idiot (e.g. attempting to tie Patrick's bowtie while he's trying to drive, bringing pot to the wedding). Plus, I think he's ugly as sin! I don't understand the appeal. Patrick could do so much better -- and I don't mean his boss, either. In fact, he should get new friends altogether. Other than Dom, I can't stand the lot.

I was willing to go with that until you brought up as one of the reasons you dislike the character, his looks.

I think he's pretty self aware, and Patrick at this stage just is a poor match. In one of the myriad of interviews about the show, the writers were asked about the date episode and if they could relate. Each of them said they had had 24-48hour dates like that which seemed magical, but also admitted that for all of them it was with somebody who ultimately didn't become a long-term boyfriend. I admit, that's been true for myself too--and I think says something.

And maybe it's living in BC right now, but someone bringing pot to a wedding of someone else around their own age doesn't strike me as so heinous (but I did like how it was addressed with the mom and her pot cookie later.)

How do you have the time, Eric? Do you not sleep a lot? I need sleep.

I didn't say pot was heinous, but it was inconsiderate of Patrick's feelings. He wanted to make a good impression with his family and thought Richie's dimebag could sabotage that. (He didn't know yet about his mother.) But instead of being understanding, Richie took offense (inexplicably) and stormed off like a little bitch.

Sorry, SM, I didn't mean to imply you thought it was as bad as heinous--but I know some other reviewers on sites have said as much.

I think he stormed off just because Patrick had acted like an ass the whole day up to that point. Now, honestly, I would just chalk that up to his mixed emotions about the event and seeing his parents and humour him if I were Richie--but, as has been pointed out, they really weren't at that stage of their relationship yet.
#663

LOOKING

There's never been any indication that Patrick and Richie are really a good match. Patrick just seemed to want a boyfriend so. badly. that if anyone reasonably attractive showed interest, he'd take it (but, you know, not really *take it*). He seemed to be manufacturing emotions. Aside from their one great day, they were typically at odds.

And everyone has had great days with people that don't blossom into full relationships. They don't have to. But so often, people try to force them to.

He had no problem taking it from Russell Tovey!

Because the actuality of Russell turns him on but only the idea of Richie turns him on.

Better than the True Blood wolf pack?

Yeah, actually. I mean, the werewolves on that show still sucked on principle because, well, they're werewolves. They wolves on True Blood look better, though.

LOOKING

Have any of the new-werewolf stories touched on the fact it's a bestiality fantasy?

I finally caught up on this show on HBO ON DEMAND. I wasn't impressed. Unhappy, angry gay men living in San Francisco. It was like GIRLS but without Lena Dunham's excellent writing. I haven't read any of the comments on this thread (because I don't have the time or inclination to read 27 pages of comments) but I have to say QUEER AS FOLK and THE L WORD may have been filled with G&L stereotypes but at least those shows were entertaining.
#671

LOOKING

Poor Looking. Still, I mark this as a win if you seemed to like the show so little and yet watched it all.

They didn't seem angry to me (and granted, I bowed out early). Boring, sure, but not angry.
#673

Yeah, angry strikes me as odd too

Bobs3, I haven't seen Looking so I can't comment. But Queer As Folk was so frickin unrealistic.
