You can catch up. I saw season 1, the first episode of season 3, then watched season 2 while season 3 was going on.

You should catch up because then everything will make a lot more sense!

The eye thing. I think they want us to think it is Locke, but I do not think that it is. Why? It just does not look like Locke's eye! Locke has very blue eyes and that eye looked darker. Also, Hurley could see "Jacob"? Why couldn't Locke?

And was that Jacob or was that the smoke monster?

Amazing episode, I cannot wait for Thursday!

Hey guys. That is definitely Jack's dad but if you look at the screencaps from when Locke saw Jacob you can see that Jacob is a completely different person back then.

jasonf, John Terry's name in the credits does mean that he has to be in the episode. If you watch the credits, you will see that he falls under the category of a guest star. Harold Perrineau, who plays Michael, is a contracted actor, meaning that he will be in the credits for all of the seasons that he is contracted for (Seasons 1, 2, & 4. He was not under contract last season). His name was in last night's episodes credits because he is under contract for this entire season. Michelle Rodriguez, Cynthia Watros, and Adewale (Eko) were all listed in the credits for the first few episodes of Season 2, even though we hadn't seen them yet.

Dominic Monaghan is not under contract for this season, but was in the STARRING actor credits because he has been under contract on this show before. Whenever Ian Somerhalder (Boone) or Malcolm David Kelley (Walt) have returned to the show, they have appeared in the STARRING list of actors because they have been there before.

I hope that made sense...but basically there are two types of actors listed in the credits:
Actors under the STARRING category are under contract for the entire season. Their names will appear at the beginning of every episode of that season, regardless of whether or not they are in that episode. If the actor is only contracted for half of a season and will be killed (Maggie Grace as Shannon) then he/she will be taken out of the credits after he/she has died.
Actors under the GUEST STARRING category are only contracted to be in the episode that is airing. An actor can not be listed as a guest star if he/she is not in an episode.

Therefore, John Terry had to be in that episode, making him the man in Jacob's chair.

My understanding of the mentioning of Ana Lucia is that the "Oceanic Six" have lied to the media and said that the six of them survived on the island all by themselves. Lieutenant Mike seemed to be speaking as if he believed Ana Lucia died in the plane crash; as if there was no chance that anybody but the six survived the crash. This makes Lance Reddick's character in the mental home even more frightening to Hurley because he seems to know that there ARE survivors still left on the island.

Okay, this has nothing to do with really any of the guessing or intelligent parts of the show but...

Did Charlie get a little make over for his bit in the premier?
He looked...slicker.
Maybe it was just he was shaven.

I think this is the first show since Buffy where a character can die and still come back six more times.

I get it about the actors. Thanks for clearing it up.

And good point about Ana Lucia's mention...The question then becomes why do they need to cover up that other people are still alive (since we have to assume that they are)? Did those who stayed on the island WANT to get off?

I want to know where on EARTH they were when they dug up the polar bear. So bizzare!

Do you think these four people are in anyway associted with Dharma? They have to want Ben for some reason...I can't think of what that reason could be though.

I'm on the fence about the Dharma connection. The four just seemed so RANDOM - though the one that's really confusing me is Miles. He's a ghostbuster? Seriously? Daniel is a "head case" - as we could see from him crying about the flight but doesn't know why...
Did Frank know something about the island? Seems like a pretty big coincidence he should have been the one flying...was the plane MEANT to crash on the island? If so, why wasn't he on it? Did Charlotte recognize what the dharma symbol was when she dug it up from under the polar bear?

As always, they manage to ask more questions than answer them...but that's what makes the show so fascinating!

antiandrewx, they were in Tunisia when they found the polar bear skeleton.

This is honestly the first episode of the season where I am COMPLETELY stumped. I'm thinking they're with Dharma too but I really have no idea.

Two things though. One is that the Jacob that Locke saw last season looks exactly like Jeff Fahey's character. Second is that this is just speculation, but I'm guessing that somehow, someway Michael will end up being Ben's "man" on the boat.

I think perhaps Dharma and the "Oceanic" people are the same organization -- the "bad guys" as Ben likes to call them. When Abbadon and Naomi were meeting, it made me think that the crew Abbadon was with is behind this (they know which plane crashed, they planted the decoy in the ocean, etc.) I dunno. It's hard to sort it all out...(which is why I love this show).

On another board, I read some interesting musings on the names of our new friends...

Charlotte Staples Lewis - C.S. Lewis of Narnia fame
Daniel Faraday - hearkening back to 19th centruy physicist Michael Faraday who studied electromagnetic induction (this must be significanty)
Miles Straum - put it together and it's "maelstrom," a big whirlpool...

mijofly19, I love your theory about Michael being on the boat. That makes complete sense to me.

The Oceanic guy who saw Hurley at the mental hospital creeps me out. Seriously. I'm still confused about what his plan is, but I have a feeling that in the coming episodes, his team is going to do something that they don't want the rest of the world to find out, and perhaps that's why he went to talk to Hurley. I guess the Oceanic people and the Dharma people could be the same group, but that seems a bit much to put together, and why would they sacrifice their people just to get the passengers stuck on the island? And if they were Dharma people, why did they freak out about Juliet not being someone from the plane, but being a "native"? Just some musings for the next week...

I wonder if the names do have meanings. There have been a lot of biblical names on the show, but have they really been of significance? I guess with LOST you never know.

I doubt that Abbadon works for Oceanic Air but for Hanso trying to cover up the island still. How is Ben getting word from Michael from the freighter, I don't remember him getting anything from Ben prior to his leaving and Ben has been in the Losties control for a while now, but then there's still Walt who could be the means of communication. What's the deal with Miles?

Abaddon (Hebrew:àáãåï,Avaddon - destruction, abyss) , in demonology, was chief of the demons of the seventh hierarchy. He was called The Destroyer and, in the Book of Revelation, St John called him the King of the locusts (Rev 9: 7-11).

Miles Straum - Maelstrom - the whirlpool that sucked down the submarine Nautilus in "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." Submarine. Hmmm.

That was a friggin' brilliant episode. What it all means, I have no idea, but like Liverpool said - it all made sense while not making a lick of sense! I feel like we got a TON of answers tonight - and I love how they're making Desmond and Penny such a strong emotional core to the show. If nothing else this episode made Desmond 100% safe from dying until A)he's reunited with Penny or B)JUST before he's reunited with her -- though I'd like to think the producers are a little too optimistic for that...

A Journal from The Black Rock...previously owned by Alvar Hanso...bought by Mr. Widmore....

Love how these things that were somewhat "forgotten" since the first season are being brought back. Just reassures me that these writers know EXACTLY what they're doing!

Yeah, if they were making this all up as they went along without a solid KNOWN through line there is no way the revelations and connections would make sense and work like they do.

I wanted to bump because I didn't see the episode till now, but...

If the writers kill Desmond, I will kill them. They cannot possibly not have him reunite with Penny. It would be a crime. I was so thrilled when Desmond figured out he needed to call Penny because I knew that it had to happen by the end of the episode, and it was so worth it.

What an amazing episode.

I don't see how they can kill him - finding the "constant" between the flashes and the future was what would let his brain reset. At the end of the episode, it seems that all was well.

More interesting was Daniel's note in his binder - did he send back Desmond to help him, or help himself, or both? And, was that note there before - I doubt it was. And, how does him going back in time change the future?

Great episode. I loved Fisher Stevens, even if only for an episode.

YWIW, I was referring to the possibility of him dying later from a totally unrelated cause, not because of the time displacement. Just him dying at all is unacceptable.
