Just delightful from start to finish (and I haven't been a fan of Gerwig's on screen work in the past). Really rooting for Laurie Metcalf this awards season.

I LOVED this, and Laurie Metcalf is just perfect and heartbreaking in it. I really hope she's an award contender this year.

Wow. I absolutely loved this film. It gets a true 5/5 stars from me, which is rare for me. All the performances were fantastic with Saoirse, Laurie and Beanie being standouts. Greta has written an amazing film and her direction was fantastic. I can't believe how much I loved this and will for sure see it again.

Polite dissenting voice here. I liked this movie but far from love it. Some lovely moments and a great cast. But Ronan's two romantic conflicts (spoiler alerts: Hedges is gay, Chalamet is a - let's say what word I can use without offending bww's rules - scoundrel) don't work. I wasn't buying Metcalf's extreme annoyance with Ronan"s (spoiler alert) getting accepted to one of her schools of choice. Ronan's on again off again girlmance with Beanie was contrived. The story might have made an enjoyable nothing-really-happens character study, but instead things are MADE to happen. The result is a series of coming of age complications with no coming of age.

I didn't like it at all. I mean, I liked it the first time I saw it, when it was called The Edge of Seventeen. Why must we continue making this same damn movie over and over again? There was not an ounce of originality here.

I am just head over heels for this movie. Have we seen it before? Yes. But rarely before with quite as fine-tuned an ear or as sensitive an eye for each and every character, from the leads all the way down to the man walking by on the street. Greta Gerwig did such an incredible job capturing the world of a year in Lady Bird’s life, I forgot entirely that this could be viewed as contrived. It all felt so real and lived in.
Saoirse Ronan is as lovely and strong as she always is. She really does a remarkable job of capturing all the little heartbreaks and joys of everyday high school life. Not enough can be said of Laurie Metcalf’s performance. Watching her drive away from the airport toward the end broke my heart. The relationship between those two characters struck so close to the relationship between my mother and I, it was almost painful to watch, having to relive some of those conversations. But if the first thing I could think to say after the movie ended was “I love my mom” with tears streaming down my face, it clearly touched something true.
The entire cast is down-the-line wonderful. Beanie Feldstein (stealing nearly every scene she’s in), Tracy Letts, Timothée Chalamet, Lucas Hedges (another performance that hit shockingly close to home), Lois Smith, Stephen McKinley Henderson (who sadly doesn’t get the coda I wish he had - my one and only complaint with the whole film).
Just... a wonderful, wonderful movie. I can understand why it might feel contrived or cliche. But if it does, it’s only because it’s so true.

Ok, now that I've seen it, I confess I don't understand the love for this movie. Sure it's conventionally well-cast, sure it's moderately well observed, for a setup we've seen dozens of times in films before. I even enjoyed the sight of teenagers singing inappropriately jaded Sondheim songs, just as much as I did years ago when Anna Kendrick et al did it in CAMP. So what on earth did the NY Film Critics Circle and Gotham Awards see in this film and those performances that merited BEST PICTURE, or BEST ACTRESS prizes?

My teenage son and I just saw this, really liked it. Sure, it's nothing we haven't seen before: but we haven't seen it with THESE characters, in this situation.

Didn't fall head over heels for this movie like a lot of people.........but I liked it enough.
