I think we all can take lesson from a sweet little musical called Avenue Q...

Cue the puppets!

Actually, it's not, because I don't worry on my end whether or not my prosepctive partner is "gay-acting" or "straight-acting."

I can refer you to them if you'd like to see for yourself.

Black man! Black man! Where did you come from?

Did I just butcher the phrasing on that one?

Having a preference isn't a problem. It's when you disparage those you don't prefer in the process that there's a problem.

Kringas, in a bar fight, I'd rather have one of you than 5 so-called "butch" boys.

Lance Bass probably wouldn't.

Oh, and the beginning of that quote from MTV News begins, "I want people to take away from this that being gay is a norm," again stating this his "straight-acting" behavior is the norm and that the "stereotypically" gay behavior isn't.

for the record I was not correcting the phrasing of Bernice's theme song. It was a simultaneous post.

actually the whole quote seems contradictory if you're reading into it that he is suggesting that non-sags are "abnormal," which i do not think is the case.

"I want people to take away from this that being gay is a norm," Bass said. "That the stereotypes are out the window ... I've met so many people like me that it's really encouraged me. I call them the SAGs — the straight-acting gays. We're just normal, typical guys. I love to watch football and drink beer."

i think we're all missing the important part of the article:

"He took years to really think about how he was going to tell everyone," Joey Fatone told People. "I back him up 100 percent."

"I've know Lance for more than 10 years," JC Chasez told MTV News. "We have been through so much together. He is family and I support him unconditionally."

Fatone was the first 'NSYNC bandmate Bass told about being gay, after Fatone walked in on Bass and a male date at his house in Orlando, Florida. Fatone's response at the time? "Dude, I don't care," Bass recalled him saying. Chris Kirkpatrick found out last summer and JC Chasez three months ago.

"Very few people have the guts to come up to you and say, 'Hey, are you gay?' " Bass said. "I'm pretty sure they all knew and they probably all talked to each other, but they had the respect to let me tell them. I haven't had the conversation with Justin [Timberlake] yet. I know he knows, but I've never really sat him down and said it." I will be calling him."

lance has still not told justin personally that he is gay!! that really should be the focus of our outrage.

Here's a thread from last year that also delved (for a while) into the notions of gay vs straight-acting.

quid pro quo?

and that is something that i think should be the focus of this more, dreamer. the main reason bass came out was because a gay gossip blogger who was regularly outting him for sport because the blogger thought bass should be out.

to me, no matter how many gay bars bass & co. went to, it is no one's business to report on it until someone is ready to tell their family, friends and coworkers on their own terms.

Gus Mattox did a write-up on the whole straight-acting thing on his website a while back. It was kind of interesting.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

Fair enough, Robbo, and I agree to some extent, but if you really want to keep a lid on things, you should put yourself in positions that will make you (more) fodder for gossip.

Was he being seen at gay bars? Was he seen "acting gay" at gay bars is a better question? If so, then he's got to shoulder some responsibility.

Really, it all boils down the the fact that if you have something you really want to keep secret, you'd better be prepared to trust no one.

Neither do I. I'm just stating that if you don't want to be outed, you should take pains to make sure that you won't be.
