Posted: 7/26/06 at 10:59amhonestly, i do not think it is a career move for him. i really think it is about taking back control from the rumour mongers, as the article states.

Amen, Joe. While I am glad for Lance that he now has what Ms. Applegate refers to in the article as "serenity", it feels like a ploy. Nothing worse that using coming out as a way to get your name out there. Now the gay network will probably give him a talk show or something just for being gay. I'm so not interested in him-gay or straight. LOGO should be giving RobbO a talk show. Now THAT I would watch. While, I am happy for Lance, I applaud people who have been out from day one and became successful in spite of that fact and perservered with courage. Those are true heroes-not pampered D-listers who come out after the bank account is fat enough.

Posted: 7/26/06 at 11:01amIf it was a career move, it's about five years too late. At least he could have used it to boost the box office take of On The Line.

As someone who got perilously close to a major recording contract, I can tell you the first thing they tell you is "no gay, no way." It was a major issue for me at the time but, things being the way they are, I ended up waiting tables and not opening for Josh Groban. ļ
Given that Lance Bass was one fifth of a band, there¡¦s very little doubt in my mind that he never developed the clout to overcome the studio pressure that he succumbed to in the beginning. Now that he¡¦s free of any A&R guy putting it to him about being out, he¡¦s comfortable enough to just let it out.
Of COURSE it¡¦s a PR move. Why else would you have a cover on People and a major article about it? I just think his motives aren¡¦t necessarily as suspect as some of you think.

Wiggle. Heh.
Lord, no, I'd have been stuck singing schlocky pop tunes handed down from Celine Dion, no doubt.
Actually, there is no doubt. I saw two of the songs.

How do you know I'm not Ashlee? I mean, after all, I can spell it correctly.

very good, singer, the first step in overcoming any problem is recognizing that there is one to begin with.

How much did that nose job cost you?
And I don't watch reality TV (or any TV for that matter), can someone post a pic of this guy?

Pippin,
There are many gay performers who have been out all along- Lea De Lauria, Bob Smith, Ant, Amanda Bearse, Peter Paige, The Queer Eye boys, Bruce Vilanch, Rufus Wainwright, Ashley MacIsaac... I could name more. Granted most of these folks are not "mega-stars", but have a nice degree od fame on their own terms and certainly are more established and viable than Lance Bass.
Like, I said, I am happy for Lance and wish him no ill, I just dont get caught up in the fuss. I came out a long time ago and there was no magazine cover or job offers.

Posted: 7/26/06 at 11:47amI know what Lance looks like, but I did a google search and found a pic of Rachein (what the f*** kinda name is that?) in this pilot jumpsuit. HOT!

Here's hoping things work out better professionally and personally for him.

Posted: 7/26/06 at 11:51amI know what you mean, Betty! thanks for the responsse. I was trying to rack my brain for people, but could think of none of the top of my head. I totally forgot about Amanda Bearse. she was one of the pioneers who came out when it was pretty much forbidden. what a brave character.
