Las Vegas shootings at country concert

Seeing a lot of bad reports on Twitter, something definitely went down and hopefully it's not as bad as it looks.

Hearing multiple casualties by at least 2 suspects after a concert...

Ugh, someone has a video of it going on, just a warning while the video doesn't really show anything in a graphic sense it is definitely terrifying. Those poor people, I'm hoping the ones injured survive. It sounds like they were shooting from the hotel rooms.

Vegas police confirmed one active shooter is killed, still an active investigation

Here's a video of the concert as this all started

Ugh, they just said they believe it's 20+ killed and 100+ injured, just awful. Hoping all the injured can make full recoveries. This is just awful.

If congress can’t even pass a law when their own members get hurt, I find it difficult to believe they’ll do it when their own constituents get hurt.

Yup. Asshole Republicans in Congress will send "thoughts and prayers" and other useless platitudes while steadfastly refusing to pass any gun laws.

What the ****. This is so bizarre. I can’t believe this can happen time and time again and there is no change in law/attitudes towards gun control. I just don’t understand. What the ****. How many people have to die????????????

Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

As much as it pains me to say this, "stay woke." This is the mother of all distractions. You know what no one is going to talk about this week? The mismanagement of Puerto Rico, the attacks on the NFL, or Russia.

Stay woke.

I will never agree that the evil choices of a small number of people should be used to restrict the freedom of everyone else. I know that won't make me popular here, of course. If there are laws, like strengthened background checks, that can be passed to prevent people like this from buying guns without impacting access for everyone else, I would certainly support that.

Incidentally, my opposition to gun laws doesn't mean I like guns or think it's a good idea for most people to have one. I certainly will never own one. My position on guns isn't much different from my position on, say, using heroin: I imagine it's rarely a good choice, but I fully support adults' right to make that choice.

There's a huge difference in disagreeing on a choice an adult, who is fully mentally capable of making a choice to do something you don't agree with. The whole concept of someone's brain reaching the fully grown state of maturity doesn't equate them still being able to make mature decisions. When it comes to something like heroin, those who are hardcore addicts don't have the mature mental abilities to look beyond when they are getting their next fix. There's this little thing called danger to yourself or others. That is why others need to step in with something that is an addiction. Those who are addicts don't see how bad the actions that they take, are not only impacting them, but others as well.Therefor, it is vital that someone steps in to help out before they kill themselves. This isn't a political action issue like gun control is. This is a being a decent human being issue.

The world is full of lunatics and not fully developed minds.

Allowing everyone to have guns and try to pick out the people who might not use it properly is simply impossible.

Your way of thinking is basically, give a whole school class full of kids guns and let's watch what happens. If it goes wrong too often, we might try and pick out the kids that might mis-use them.

The whole of Europe, where guns are prohibited of course, is shaking their heads.

People should not have access to this kind of weapons. Throwing a knife out of a hotel room could never do this much damage. Of course there are other weapons, such as bombs, but that happens less as it is much less common.

Instead of more laws, this country needs to start making "smart" guns only.

#13

Las Vegas shootings at country concert

But...do you really believe one's right to bear arms are infringed if the government decides that semi- and automatic weapons should be restricted? If a law allowed people to own handguns and rifles, do you really believe it's unconstitutional to restrict access to higher capacity weaponry?

And yeah...heroin kills the user. Guns...well. There's been 338 mass shootings in the US this year and we're 275 days in.

I can totally get behind that. Also, until people on the right realize that the people on the left aren't trying to take away guns, rather have harsher and smarter laws, the country won't get anywhere on the issue and we will still be talking in circles about it.

And, as someone who's well aware of the impacts of mental illness and it being a very real thing, I really hate that when something like this occurs, people jump to incorrectly cite mental illness as the reason for the person doing what they did. BullSH*T, it's a tactic to avoid talking about the elephant in the room which is guns and gun control, and at the same time, make light of something that is very serious that people brush off as a joke.

Seriously, how many more of these mass shootings have to happen before we as a nation say 'enough'?

I fully support stepping in to help people with addictions! I just don't think the stepping in should ever involve handcuffs and jail cells if the conduct is limited to drug trade and use. If you don't think I'm a decent human being because I don't think the government should punish people for their own good, then I can live with that.

No, that's not an accurate paraphrase of my position. I am pro-choice, too, but I don't believe in indiscriminately giving people abortions whether they want them or not.

"People should not have access to this kind of weapons."

If you truly mean this, then you are adopting a perfectly respectable pacifist position. I've flirted with that myself. However, usually when people say that "people should not have" a certain weapon they actually do think that a few special people should have them. And I have a problem with that.

Hi all - I'm going to resist the urge to answer those who respond to my existing posts. I think it was fair to offer my opinion when others were already doing so, but I can sense that this could quickly lead us down a rabbit hole when this thread is supposed to be about remembering those who were murdered in Las Vegas. I respect all of your opinions on these issues.

Don't put words in my mouth. I never once in my comment to you said that the government should arrest drug addicts and put them behind bars instead of helping them. Your post gave off the vibe of "they are adults, let's step back and let them do their own thing" vibe. Both, with your comments regarding guns and drugs. And, for the record I don't think that jail is the right place for drug addics who need help.

Ugh, so sad to see the numbers of the ones killed and injured rising. When it first started they said only 2 were dead which have been a miracle after watching these videos.

Personally, I think the Second Amendment should either be revised or even repealed, though if Congress is not even willing to address an incompetent President recklessly putting the lives of Americans at risk, there is no way they could navigate a Constitutional Amendment. But the bottom line is: 1) the Second Amendment doesn't define "arms" and the Federal government already bans certain grades and types of weapons, so banning all guns would not really be unconstitutional and 2) as a nation, we have thoroughly abused our rights under the Second Amendment, necessitating the need for revision or repeal. Conservatives LOVE the excuse that banning guns wouldn't stop criminals from acquiring them anyway, so it would be pointless. I say call their bluff if they truly believe it makes no difference. If you want to arm yourself pursuant to your Second Amendment rights, either arm yourself with something other than a gun or provide valid proof of your membership in a "WELL-REGULATED MILITIA" (regulated by whom? Federal? States?).

Is everyone aware that you can get a Concealed Carry permit online for $65 by answering six easy questions? But beware: you have to answer truthfully, which I'm sure everyone does. When will it be time to tell the gun lobbyists that their money is no longer good here?

Kdogg, I'm withya most of the time, but this has to stop. Yes, the people who own these military weapons, and the NRA, have blood on their hands. It's too easy to be mentally ill, and it's too easy to get a bad weapon. We can only attempt to stop one of them from happening. I think anyone who thinks otherwise isn't immoral so much as ignorant and maladjusted.
