I'm confused...
Saying that it IS cancelled, but a LA version will be on. But it doesn't sound official. Yet.
L&O:LA isn't a thing. It can't be L&O without NYC. It can be NCIS or CSI or whatever else, but not L&O.
L&O:LA is a thing. It's the new show. SVU and CI will still be around. It's just the original L&O, which doesn't really have a hook, that will be done away with. 90% of the original cast is gone, anyway.
I know it's real, but why move from NYC. L&O went downhill, in my opinion, when Jerry died. It struggled for a while, and then Jack McCoy became AD, which would've been fine had they not changed the format. Now, there's a lot more Jack than there ever was of AD Branch.
I'd say more like 100% of the original cast is gone. Jack and Anita aren't original cast. I actually love the pilot and it has Chris Noth, of all people. No Jack and no Anita.
Oh true. I guess S. Epatha and Sam Waterson came along season 3. I can't imagine a new L&O making it when CI had to switch networks and the original is tanking.
Here's another article with more recent info:
http://www.deadline.com/2010/05/nbc-to-cancel-law-order/
And they are refering to the new spinoff simply as LOLA. What--are they BWW posters too? :)
There's a Law & Order: LA? I had no idea? I love SVU
Epatha, Sam and Linus were worth watching the original, in my opinion. If it is indeed canceled, It will be a crying shame. Especially since one more season will break Gunsmoke's record for longest running prime time drama series.
Another series set in LA? Boring. At least we still have SVU. I would love if it had another decade of life left in it.
I agree that the newest cast actually made this season worth-watching. Shame it does not get a proper send-off. Hopefully the writers for the show jump over to SVU which really hit a bump in the road during its whole time change and guest stars galore debacle.
L&O:LA sounds about as good as L&O: Trial By Jury.
CI is still under the NBC umbrella since it is USA Network and probably is in a much better situation to continue.
This was going to Epatha's last season, cancellation or not.
They announced the cancellation on the NBC Evening News yesterday evening. The way the did it was when they came back from the commercial they made it look like they were going back to the next segmnet of Law & Order with that musical chord and the text Nightly News, Studio 3C. Then Brian Williams announced the cancellation. It was kind of cool! That's how I found out.

Wasn't that big of a fan of the original but I love SVU and the new CI cast has turned me back onto that show. But still sad none the less.
There happens to be a Law & Order: UK but I agree, Law & Order: LA just isn't right.
Law & Order: UK
Annnnnnd that would be more NY actors out of work.
NBC canceled the show. According to an article that was posted here, Dick Wolf was not happy with the decision. It also said that he was trying to save the show by having TNT pick it up, at least for a season so it can beat Gunsmoke's record. However, NBC pulled the plug prior to that being able to happen.
NBC once again shot itself in the foot. If it had promoted next season as the final season of a classic show and it being a history making season, I believe it would have found it's ratings increasing.
Sorry to see this Prime Time Institution breathing it's last. Seems it never recovered from Jerry Orbachs's passing.
NYT Article on how this is further going to hurt NYC's economy
SVU and CI are filmed in New York too though, well I know SVU definitely is. While people will unfortunately be out of work they are making it seem like it's the end of TV in NYC... not to mention 30 Rock, CSI: NY, and The Good Wife are all filmed in the city.
This is true, but with the soap opera dying and fewer films and television shows being filmed here, it is a problem.
^ Yes, didn't All My Children relocate to Los Angeles because it was cheaper?
But, the impression from that article is that they were talking not just about the crew, but businesses losing customers. The caterers just lost a huge client this way. When I worked as an extra once, they gave us a lunch break on our own, meaning we were giving business to places nearby where they filmed.
I was always under the impression that CSI:NY is one of those shows that is set in NYC however it isn't filmed there.
CSI does limited location shoots in NY, but they primarily shoot in LA. AMC moved because LA is cheaper. They are flying Susan Lucci back and forth each week. Ugly Betty moved to NYC and tanked. (I do blame that on the night change, though.)
Well, I've seen Broadway performers of CSI: New York so I just assumed...
I've also seen loads on The Good Wife (ie. Karen Olivo and Aaron Simon Gross) so that's a plus...
THE GOOD WIFE is shot in New Jersey, I believe.
As for L&O, I stopped watching the original about 2 seasons ago when Jeremy Sisto and whatshisface joined up. I just thought it turned reeeeeeally boring and I'd been watching it for 17 years or so.
Oh and thanks for posting that L&O:UK clip, I had no idea that existed. And with Harriet Walter! I need to find these episodes somewhere!!
Gossip Girl also films in New York. And I don't know what is going on with this, but there was a pilot shot there with Tom Selleck, Donnie Walhberg, and Len Cariou. I would imagine they might stick to filming there, but I'm not sure.
